the bucker building drone footage was just epic...one of the reason i watch your whole videos is that thet are full of breath taking sceneries...i am like "that glacier is cool with the blue color shades" another 10 minutes in the video "that buckner is soo cool"😅. the 4km narrow tunnel was a bit creepy though but i am a fun of LORD OF RINGS so marisa's comparison to the scenes was really creative... i loove the drone footage...

Thank you once again Cypha Techie for an awesome comment. I appreciate your love of the drone footage, and I do think it "elevates" our videos, ha! And hey, you're a Lord of the Rings fan too (Marisa here), NICE! Tim usually is the one with the creative comparisons, but I'm glad I was able to get one in that someone appreciated! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!

Fantastic video! As always I bet. More August weather it looked like, rain, rain and more rain so very little views to see but you did get some patches of no rain. One minor correction about the Anton Anderson tunnel, it IS the longest vehicle tunnel and the longest multi-use tunnel, but it is not the longest "tunnel" because there is a train tunnel east of Seattle that goes through the Cascade mountains that is 7.8 miles long. The fresh air fans in the Whittier tunnel are powered by jet engines (turbines) and are rather loud as you noticed. Also, riders are required to wear a helmet to transit, no helmet, no admittance. Convertibles are required to put the top up too. Occasionally small rocks fall from the overhead and there is always water dripping on you. One trip through the tunnel to Whittier a group of us in the local Miata club found out that we had to put the top up but one friend doesn't even have a top for his car, but he did have his helmet in the trunk so they said okay, as long as he keeps his helmet on. He said it was fine because it was raining (as usual) as we waited a long time before we could go through and his helmet kept his head dry. Another good time in Alaska. We were riding on a bus to catch the ship in Whittier one time and the bus driver had never been in the tunnel and was afraid of it. No problem right? Nope, he managed to drive over the safety curb on the right side and smashed us into the rock wall, The door glass and first two windows shattered, the right side windshield cracked and the body was scraped ans smashed. Nobody was injured but those of us sitting in the front few rows on the right side got shattered glass in our laps. Yep, an "Incident" in the tunnel and we had front row seats. The driver of the bus behind us directed our driver to back up and get the front wheel back over the curb, then forced the door open to check on all of us. Nobody injured since the speed in the tunnel is so slow and nobody had been standing up. The two drivers talked about staying in the center of the tunnel and we were able to continue out of the tunnel. The driver must have thought HE was supposed to be in the middle because he drove the rest of the way with the right side tires rubbing against the curb. He didn't understand that he needed to keep the BUS in the center, not himself in the drivers seat. He parked the bus as soon as we were clear of the portal and we were transferred to another bus for the short distance to the ship. They didn't want us to walk for safety reasons they said. Within hours of boarding the cruise ship, the ship's doctor came to our cabin to see if anyone was injured and to hear our version of what happened. I would not be surprised if some of the passengers on the bus were going to try to get a free cruise for the event, but we told the doctor it was very minor and other than a lot of broken glass it was no problem. We had been worried about having to climb out of the left side emergency exit windows if the bus was firmly stuck in the tunnel since we were the youngest people on the bus and I was 64 then! Fortunately all was well and we had a great cruise. I would rather ride my bike than ride the bus through the tunnel! Someday we would like to take the train through, just for the experience. Oh, almost forgot to say how much we enjoy your new drone video. I've never seen the other views of the old Buckner building.
@2UpAndOverloaded2 жыл бұрын
Wow wow wow! What an insane story!! Your bus got into an accident in the middle of that tunnel, I can't believe it! When you first mentioned that you had taken a bus through, I thought, "Really? Buses fit in there?" It felt so narrow to me, but apparently they fit, but not comfortably, as your story shows. Incredible! I'm glad no one was hurt, but that's definitely an experience to remember. And that is also bizarre about the rocks and rain drops falling. That tunnel is certainly an adventure no matter what! Oh, and thank you so much for the correction about the tunnel. You're absolutely right, and I apologize for getting that fact wrong, there are longer train tunnels, good to know. Thank you, and I'm glad there are people like you keeping me on my toes! And again, thank you for sharing your amazing story! It's certainly something to tell around the campfire!

How do you know the Dutch coffee shops ? 😂 Merry Christmas Tim and Marisa from your Dutch follower.

Well... It turns out that Marisa and I both have Dutch heritage! In fact, we have family there and are thinking of spending a very long time in the Netherlands once we get to Europe (though when that will be, we're not sure). But my father celebrates Sinterklaas day and our house has lots of little Dutch decorations, including tree ornaments of the coffee shops... So we're excited to have you, John Grootenboer, our Dutch friend, along for the ride! And a Merry Christmas to you (and happy Sinterklaas day from before)!

I rode my motorcycle to Alaska in 2016.. but I feel like I missed so much watching the Notiers. Skip northern Alaska, just spend time on the Kenai Peninsula. Truly feel that in missing Whittier, I missed so much. Loving this free tour!

Thank you for the kind words Richard Mourdock. But you know it's funny, when I watch other people's videos of places that we've been to, I feel jealous that they saw all these things that we didn't! But that's how life is, every day is a different experience, and we can never see it all. Whatever your adventures were in Alaska in 2016, I'm sure they were just as epic. Oh wow, I remember being a kid and calculating how old I would be in the year 2000. The days are long and the years are short. You guys seem to be making the best of both. BTW, 10 degrees here on Long Island. What's the temp by you guys?

Thanks again for commenting VeeDub, it is a frosty 48˙ here in Florida today. We're bummed because we haven't been able to swim in the pool for the past week because of this frigid weather, but somehow we are surviving. Last winter we were in Chicago though, and considering we both grew up there, we know about cold winters. So I feel your pain about the 10 degrees, brrr! I hope you are nice and warm, somewhere where you're surrounded by good cheer, and that you're having an amazing Christmas. Thank you once again for always watching and commenting, we're always grateful for it. And by the way, I love that line about the days being long and the years short. I'm noticing in your recent videos you have acquired a flower friend of sorts in your backpack. Does this have a story behind it?

Good eye! It started in South America when I bought Marisa a fake flower to zip tie to her backpack. Once that one dry rotted and was bleached out by the sun in Africa, I bought he another one in Alaska! She likes them, and I think they are neat so it’s a win win!
