'Kalimantan' is what we locals on the Indonesian side of Borneo call the entire island. Indonesian provinces are equivalent in status to Malaysian states. So if you recognize the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak separately, you should also discuss the Indonesian provinces individually: West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan. Each province is unique and has its own distinct charms. Thank you for visiting, and hope you enjoyed your stay! 🇮🇩

@@2UpAndOverloaded Thank you for taking this seriously. There’s a reason why we capitalize names like South Kalimantan (not south Kalimantan), North Sumatra (not north Sumatra), and West Java (not west Java) etc because these are proper nouns, which are always capitalized in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. It’s a pet peeve of mine when foreigners use “Kalimantan” as if it’s one big lump of a region. “Oh, you’re from Kalimantan? Then you benefit from the building of the new capital!” 😑 No, dimwit. That’s in East Kalimantan, a whole different province from where I am. It’s around 500 km (around 310 miles) away or around 15 hours drive so it hardly has any effect on our daily lives. Thank you for visiting our part of the island. There’s more to explore and hope you’ll come back next time. Cheers from South Kalimantan! 🍻

@@kilantravels no no no, you are totally WRONG and BASELESS. As a native people (born and raised) in Kalimantan, I strongly reject this doctrine. Have you ever doing RESEARCH or read any historical paper that BORNEO was MISNOMER by the trader/expeditor to call a place BRUNEI DARUSSALAM? This large island still was called kalimantan (the accent surely was the not the same, but still it was not a borneo). Give me a proff, which local tribe who producing the name of BORNEO? Which one? Banjar? Dayak? Kutai? Tidung? Tawau? Sabahan? Kadazan? You have to read so many article, you're not historian, at least do some literature review. I give you a signifant confession by Sir Henry Keppel's book that clearly mentioned what I am saying. "BORNEO was misnomer, kalimantan is the native name by people on that day!"
@kilantravels5 ай бұрын
@@de-musa Whoa there, buddy. Maybe take a moment to actually read my comment before jumping to conclusions and you’d find that I didn’t contradict any of your points. As someone from South Kalimantan, I obviously believe that "Kalimantan" is the rightful name for the island, while "Borneo" is just a mispronunciation by colonizers who couldn’t even say "Brunei" correctly. “Kalimantan” was the term our leaders from Banjar Sultanate used to refer to the island in their correspondence with the Dutch. But insisting that non-Indonesians use "Kalimantan" when they're more familiar with "Borneo" seems a bit pointless, don’t you think? After all, the natives might call their place "Kalaallit Nunaat," but to the rest of the world, it’s just "Greenland." Look, perhaps it’s time for you to accept the internationally recognized term and move on.

@@de-musa Kaget saya membaca komentar Anda atas @kilantravels.

When taking a ferry, you can "rent" crew cabin for not much money. Its the way to go here. If you are staying in Indonesia, I highly recommend making your way to Sumatra. Starting from central/west side of the island, going through and around lake Toba and further up is some amazing riding. Stay away from Madam, the southern part of Sumatra is flat with palm tree plantations everywhere. Last tip, I just got a suzuki vstrom 250sx. It would make for a very good two up machine. Stay safe, riding here can be nuts.
