My 1 elecampane plant bought 2 years ago blossomed into 6 health plants and numerous seeds! I haven't used it yet but am so glad to have it. Tons of staghorn too. I love the red fall colors!

Nature is wonderful. For me it brings peace to my heart. I see the creative, sustaining power of a loving Father. My yard has tons of mullein too!

I would love to learn to make tinctures and salves. I'm a Michigander as well, but I don't know my native plants very well. I did plant a few this year. (The skunks tore up a few, so I'll have to try again). I did enjoy the blue vervain and seeing a lot of tiny native bees that never have come around before. Do you have any recommendations of books or sites for learning more about how to work with plants (native or not). I may have to look up what plants I have can be made into tisane.

I do have a few Herbal book reviews on my channel. That may be helpful to you Some are specifically on medicine Making. Although being out with the plants and going on plant identification walks with an experienced herbalist is the best way to learn plant identification in my opinion, joining a plant identification group like on Facebook and posting pictures of things that you find can be helpful too. Then go look them up and study them further. I only use the plant identification apps as a starting point not a definitive point because they are known to make errors.

Hmmmm… lemon balm does turn a bit darker once it’s dried. Does it smell burnt? Have you made a tea with it? Does it taste scorched? Now it could’ve been an interaction between the lemon bomb and the hot peppers… I’m not 100% sure though. Trial and error is definitely the way I have learned many things. I hope you get to try it again. Perhaps it’ll lower temperature with just the lemon bomb in the dehydrator, check it often. Or try bundling it and hanging dry.

Are you dehydrating all those plants you pulled? Lemon balm can move out of there, but I hope you didn’t waste it. You could even sell it at the end of your driveway or something. Hard to watch if it was all wasted.

@@sly8056 I appreciate your concern and the question. It is hard for me also to think of myself “wasting” any medicinal plants. However, I have had to come to terms with this because it often paralyzes me from taking necessary action. Since it was well after it bloomed and it’s not as potent at that time, I will not be dehydrating it. I also have so much more lemon balm growing in so many other places. I also have a goodly amount already tinctured, as in a few quarts. Sooooo I just had to reconcile with myself that sometimes things can composted and that it’s OK. That is what works for me and I understand that it’s not everyone’s opinion. But thank you so much for commenting.

@@EarthseedDetroit Makes sense! That’s why I find stuff in drawers years later wondering why I kept it in the first place instead of throwing it out.
