Enjoyed the series. Looking forward to the next series. Angie is fortunate to have a brother with the right skills!! This final episode also makes me appreciate the drive shaft technology I've enjoyed on three Hondas and two Yamaha's. Anything that is mechanical can fail, of course, but having to clean and adjust chains, so very yester-tech.
@2WR4 жыл бұрын
I thought the same before switching back from shaft drive. I typically only adjust mine once between tire changes and it's nice to know I can carry a spare master link to fix it if breaks. I'd prefer the Honda and Yamaha shaft drive to a certain German brand though.

Glad there are folks like yourself that take the time and effort to share their travels. We get to ride along and see the sights. Nice that your sister could accompany you on the trip. It didn't change what you saw, but added a new dimension to the series. You two made this virtual world seem a bit more normal. We all need that now.

Thanks! It was great having her come along on such a trip. Even stuff I'd seen/ridden before was like doing it for the first time again because I got her see her reactions. Having her POV and camera and just her riding along, I agree, added another layer to the series.

I can't think of a single worse thing to have happen than a mechanical breakdown on a motorcycle in some dead end ,rural part of the country, totally devoid of places to fix it. In 50 years of touring, I guess I have been lucky to never have had to experience this horrible situation even once. I've always wished to only own bikes that were are reliable as the cars we all drive, and really didn't find that until the Gold Wing from Honda. But now I'm too old to enjoy that extra comfort level of reliability. I can only live vicariously through KZbin videos like yours that cover all the places I have been over the years. Keep it up...love them and love that they concentrate of the roads you drive and the places you see
@2WR2 жыл бұрын
Eh...it all worked out and then we upgraded with a guard to alleviate any issues in the future. If something breaks, I just look at it as a problem to solve.
@TOURMANBOB2 жыл бұрын
@@2WR Yeah, I kind of look at motorcycles in the same way as I do my boat...always something to fix regardless of how well you treat it (Gold Wing a notable exception). I just love your videos...they are keeping me sane under the last 25 inches of snow that has buried my city (Ottawa). I know you guys are getting it as well, but hopefully more manageable than here. Best to you and your sister....

I can just picture people with their hands in midair above their keyboards when you left with no helmet on and then came back and said where your sister lived. Well done super mario your lovely sis is so lucky to have you as a brother ! Enjoyed the vids do you think modern bikes are to complex ? I mean your fab ktm would have been more relible with gravaty feed petrol and carbs ? I know regs make fuel injecton de rigger stay safe and happy your a top chap
@2WR4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question and likely too long of an answer for this venue but perhaps a good upcoming podcast topic. I wouldn't say new bikes are too complex (for the most part) but they do have some unnecessary technology that adds more potential points of failure to the bike. Carbs v fuel injection will always be a debate. I have no issue with either. The negative to carbs is the new ethanol fuel can gum them up easier and they require manual adjustment and/or jetting changes depending on altitude or barometric pressure. But carbs are stupid simple and cheap to work on. Fuel injection has it's pros and cons as well. Personally I prefer FI for street bikes though.

Hi Mario, another quality video. At least you got close to home before the breakdown. I had a chain break and leave a deep clear impression of itself in the standard 1/4 inch or so steel case protector plate around the final drive sprocket of a CB900 Honda years ago. I was lucky to only be doing about 30mph at the time. I never again tried the old fashioned two hammers method of flattening the rivet link I,d recently done on that new chain. Live and learn I guess. 👍🏴
@2WR4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we were pretty close. The new chain was a press on and rivet so I used my chain flare tool. Holding up great so far.

@@2WR I’m sure the chain will be fine as you used the correct tool rather than my caveman type job. I will never do that again😁👍

Ducatis break, like helicopters, thats what they do best lol, my 916 is no exception. I wanted a 1200 enduro but no dealers within 800 miles from me for any big service/ repairs sadly.
@2WR4 жыл бұрын
(while I hate the first gen 1200 multi key fob) the bike isn't too bad. The cheap pot metal engine cover is kinda sad but with the case saver no installed shouldn't have an issue now. I'm betting it gets replaced by a KTM by 2022 tho.
