nice job, not sure how those bread board ends will fare since they were glued with bicuits
@thomasingram87547 жыл бұрын
Isn’t the table top going to crack due to the way you put on the breadboard ends?
@jude.256 жыл бұрын
@@TheDudeAbides-247 Actually, the wood movement Thomas is talking about is side to side, caused by changes in moisture content. Wood swells and shrinks. It is likely to split. Bread board ends are beautiful but must be done in a way to allow movement.

Absolutely stunning choice of wood. Very inspiring. One question, your video didn't show how you clamped the breadboard ends after attaching them with biscuits. How did you clamp them on??
@Hubbmade8 жыл бұрын
You are very kind, thanks! I clamped them one at a time, with very long bar clamps. After the first one was clamped for 24 hours I did the second one. If you dont have long enough clamps there are ways around like clamping across the width of the table in the middle and then clamping the end to that (if that makes any sense)
@chuckcostello51678 жыл бұрын
Yeah what you mentioned about clamping makes sense. I'll look into it. Thanks for sharing.

Nice table, how are those breadboards holding up? Did you glue all the way across the joint?
@Hubbmade7 жыл бұрын
I did. I spoke with that client about an upcoming coffee table build recently and the cedar table top is doing great! Thanks for your interest.

looks great! u said in another comment its polyurethane, any stain? for a table, does the poly make to hard enough to keep from scratching the cedar?
@Hubbmade7 жыл бұрын
No stain...natural colors. The poly is ok for scratching... not great. They people who bought it didnt want a glassy finish anyway so its ok that it came out a bit matte and the scratches dont make it look bad. Thanks for watching!
@TheDudeAbides-2476 жыл бұрын
Poly looks amazing on red cedar. Nothing makes the colors pop more than poly. If you are worried about scratches and it being difficult to fix a big scratch or gouge because of the poly finish, you could use Waterlox Original Sealer/Finish instead of poly. You can re-apply months or years later without sanding. It's a penetrating finish, so it gets down into the wood more than a varnish/poly that sits on top of the wood. Waterlox will protect the wood against spills and condensation. It just won't have as glossy a look, but it will have the look of a fine finish, more like a gunstock finish, which is great if you want a more rustic look instead of a plastic-coated look you get from poly. I love both finishes.

What were you wiping on the wood for a finish. Did you use the biscuit jointer to attach the pieces on top.

my advice . . . DONT buy the cheapest stuff you can find. Quality of your welding equipment is very important ! dont make the same mistakes as i did just pay the extra money for the quality :)
