Go find some engine hooks/bolts from old toyota camry (like pre-2001?) 4 cylinder engines. Install one on the front and one on the back of the engine (existing holes), makes it easier to attach straps or chains

Question why does the axels have to be removed? And if you can tell me if I need any special tools please and thanks
@jasonstults Жыл бұрын
Well the axel has a bracket that attaches to the engine. And in order to lift engine and trans out you need to remove the axels for clearance. You can get them out with a pry bar and a hammer. A slide hammer also works well.I've Also seen people use pickle fork. Just remember the straighter the axel the easier to remove and install. But at the cv end if your not careful you can have the cv come apart and it's very difficult to make things line back up without removing the boot.

Line all your timing marks up replace the guides waterpump and oil pump while in there. Might be easiest to drop the whole subframe out the bottom and do everything with ample space

Hi Jason. 3am over here on west coast of Ireland. Just watched all of your vids. Thanks so much. May I have your advice please. My 2001 1.8 Celica has been burning lots of oil and smoking alot out of the rear recently. Mechanic thinks oil control rings are stuck and valve stem seals need replacing (head gasket and compression test okay). He suggests sourcing a replacement engine rather than stripping down and repairing current one. A Celica forum says ‘the pre-facelift 1zzfe celicas gen 7 had only 4 runaway holes cut in each of the pistons, the new design had 8 per piston and added slit to the ring groove to help cooling and stop carbon build up to stop this oll burning problem’, so it sounds like a bit of a waste of time spending the time and money on the current engine anyway when the later one is better anyway. What would you do and what year did the improved version of the engine come out please? Thank you, thank you, thank you. Chris 🏎️ ps. currently running the ‘Lucas Oil complete engine treatment’ through the fuel and oil praying the problem is just a carbon clog up 🙏
@jasonstults5 ай бұрын
Hello Chris when doing compression test did the pressure come right up quicklu or after a several revolutions? The heads and especially valve seals definitely have their weakness I know that cylinder walls also have a special coating that once worn off causes the engine to smoke significantly. How many miles or kilometers does your car have? There are lots of versions of the 1.8 found across several different makes and models. I would lean towards a 2zzge swap over the fe just because I love experiencing the added cam lift at higher rpms. But for simplicity sake I would just swap a newer version in your car as long as all sensors and tone rings are the same. I'm not sure what year that change happened. High rpms and high octane fuel will help you burn off carbon if that's your issue. Although carbon is the killer of any engine. Thanks for watching!!

Hi Jason. Thanks for replying 0:12 🙌 I’ll find out from Mechanic. Here was result in meantime; 200,200, 185,210. It’s done 96,000 miles.

@@jasonstults Ok that’s good news at least, plus very low mileage for its age. Sounds like an engine to keep for a stripdown/rebuild regardless of which direction I go in. I’m not a mechanic but would love a challenge like that over the winter. It’s going to be difficult to find someone up for doing a rebuild over here let alone a swap. I’ll look into what year the change came in. Wondering now if there is potential for the current engine to take the newer version bits 🤔 Thank you again. So I just need to work out what to do for now; Engine swap or another Celica that is fine and sort mine over the winter and then sell one on. Also needs a new rad and the gear change is a big sticky at times but everything else fine. Watching your vids it’s clear that the engine is better out whether for a swap or rebuild regardless. Clarity coming thanks to you buddy 🙌 ps. 190bhp very tempting!!! 🏎️

@Chrs144 in your situation it also maybe worth finding a head and having it rebuilt not too big of a job to swap . The six speed is definitely a must!

Not sure..I think it would be more of a headache than its worth. It would be easiest to pull all of it as a unit. Or just the trans
@harfangdes3541 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonstults i removed the engine without removing the transmission this weekend, it can be done if you remove the crankshaft pulley and jack up the transmission a little bit, however i think it would have been easier to just remove everything.

@harfangdes3541 good to know.. definitely for reassembly purposes might be less of a headache to pull trans too especially if it's a manual.

@jasonstults I've gotta pull the engine due to developing a knock in a 01 celica. I've got a lift where I'm working on the car at. Planning on putting a new clutch in it while it's out too.

@@wadew470 I think you will find that it's about the same either way. Trans is easy enough to do in the car.

Good video I have a question for you I have a gt with 5 speed manual transmission and I want to swap the engine with a 2zzfe engine and keep the 5 speed manual transmission can I use the same flywheel or the flywheel needs to be replaced thanks in advance for all the help 😀
@jasonstults3 жыл бұрын
I honestly haven't really played with the 1zz. I do know that the flywheels are different sizes... But with that said they both use the same clutch and pressure plate. So it seems as simple as using the 2zz flywheel and your on your way. I would check the threads on newcelica.org to confirm, because like I said I haven't done it. Hope this helps!

So the 1.8 1zzfe was produced up until 2007 and was in the Toyota matrix,and corolla. The engine is also the same in a Pontiac vibe. With that said I don't know if they can all swap in directly. If the crank trigger is the same,if the sensors read the same resistance and are compatible with the ecu. I would do some forum searching and solid research before purchasing from another vehicle and year.

This week gonna be taking a intake manifold, throttle body, throttle cable and exhaust header out from a part out. Without taking out the engine, any tips for someone new and what size bolts did you remove?
@jasonstults2 жыл бұрын
So I know the exhaust is a real bear to try and get enough torque to remove all the nuts, so any universal joints wobblys' and different size breaker bars and extensions will be helpful. I know depending on the year there are 2 different sizes for the exhaust nuts. As long as you have 8,10,12,13,14,15, and 16mm socket you can take the whole thing apart. I would suggest taking the engine out if you can and remove the header bolts at the collector first. At the head they are really awkward to get to and really easy to round off, so be careful choose the right breaker bar setup. Most important good luck and take your time.
