Wow! I just found this video. Our boats are almost identical. I remember ripping out all of the blue carpet. Today July 2nd, I wll be draining the gas, buying a new battery and trying once again to get her started! The Damn Relic Riser will ride again! Nice job Kurt! I'm working on a '98 Capri bowrider that was sitting outside, uncovered for the last 8 years or so. Got it started after a tune-up, fuel pump, and carb. Now the cleaning and the floor project can commence. Oh, and I need to do the exhaust bellows - isn't that a bonus!

Same. Grew up with the disappointment of mrcruisers then went outboard as an adult. Now got a 3.0 to give them another try. 2nd time out died 100 yards from ramp. This is a 2008. Have 5 outboards and have never been stranded.

Hey Curt, I have an old boat with similar controls, the choke on mine is engaged by pushing and holding the key in while starting. Help it helps. Love all your videos

Invest in a tight fitting waterproof boat cover, the best is one that snaps on. Keeping that water out will pay for itself…..👍🏼👍🏼

I have the same motor... mines will start if you pump 4-5 times then instead of putting in neutral it has to be like 20 percent throttled... once it starts I bring it back to neutral

Have one too. Seller 15yrs ago said he hit sea Lion - sunk boat - ruined engine. had new engine installed, has worked great 15yrs - except yesterday. switch interupter maybe, or cable adjustment. Mine's a keeper also, tho cotton pickin hoa rules limit time out of garage to 2 days in driveway. Hoa never again.

As a former Bay boater myself (two Bayliners), it really looks easily repaired. Suggestion: with a larger family now, you may want a bit larger boat. At any rate, I am kind of jealous and missing home.

I was on a lake with my father fishing, we we’re on a lake called Pyramid. This lake is can be a dangerous lake because of the sporadic high winds. Long story short the throttle cable broke so I ended up spending a whole fishing trip yaking on a broken cable with needle noses.

Kurt aviod the headache of trying to repair the floor.... Bayliner's are notorious for floor rot and outer hull separation.... please don't throw good money after bad!! This is just an opinion from a boat mechanic (myself)of 20 years .

Yup- Bayliner=wooden floor, wooden stringers, wooden transom…. Hope it’s a single skin hull layup, otherwise: balsa core 😭

Give it throttle!!! You can idle up in neutral to start it.

No hour meter is correct, plug in a Diagnostic meter and it will tell you how many hours are on the motor plus the max RPM the motor has been run at plus more info you will find out about your Boat Motor. all data stored in the ECM. hope this helps you learn some more about the history of your motor

It's 20 Years old and has a carburetor - no ECM - OBD II but there is a simple bit of electronics built into the distributor.
