Hi, regarding temperature and humidity, the weak point of the sensors is always the humidity. You could also consider changing the measuring probe that comes in the electronics by default. However, those of you in Europe should have more access possibilities, such as the AM2315C Humidity and Temperature Level Sensor, as well as SHT31 (Sensirion) HDC1080 (Texas Instruments) SI7021 (Silicon Labs) BME280 (Bosch).

@@MiguelRodriguez-wn8mc Hey Miguel, thanks for that great post! You’re right, all the sensors you mentioned are a great choice. I used the BME280 for my first Arduino tent controller. Now, there is a also very good 12V DIY controller that I integrate into my control board: the XY-TR01 + SHT20 Humidity controller. Some users have mentioned that it’s now shipped with a SHT30 second-generation sensor. It’s very cheap and plug-and-play, with no need for programming or setting up something too complicated for some growers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4i9ZJ97famhj9U

Hey @face3829 ! I can't thank you enough for your thoughtful comment. It really brightened my day! Creating this video involved a substantial amount of time gathering essential knowledge (exploration) and refining my methods (exploitation). For the text-to-speech aspect, I employed a free software called Balabolka, which utilizes the basic Microsoft text-to-speech engine. Besides this comparison video, my channel predominantly features educational content on growing mushrooms at home using easily accessible materials. I've extended this approach to all my channel content. I've intentionally made everything I do straightforward for anyone to replicate, which is why I opted for the free software. When it comes to video editing, I rely on the open-source software Openshot, and I often turn to Pixabay for free music and images. The presentation slides are, of course, created using Microsoft PowerPoint. My core belief centers on improving the world by continuously striving to become the best versions of ourselves. In line with this principle, I am committed to transparency in my decisions and actions, empowering others to make informed choices and offering them the option to follow my example if they find it valuable. My primary goal has always been to lower the barriers to entry for growing mushrooms. This means empowering people to go from spores to fruitful harvests at home without having to purchase everything externally. It's about shedding the consumer role and becoming a producer and creator. There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to do something but having no idea how to get started. That, to me, represents a high entry barrier, aside from the financial aspect of sourcing everything externally. Currently, I'm working on some exciting upcoming projects, including a significantly improved humidifier, which has reached its final testing stage. Additionally, I've expanded my focus from growing mushrooms to cultivating indoor plants. I'm currently experimenting with a setup for growing vanilla plants. Since vanilla is a tropical plant, this venture involves exploring new topics and refining my methods in this field. So far, it's been incredibly rewarding, and progress is looking promising! Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your comment! It means the world to me to see that I've been able to add value to the mushroom-growing community. Here's to happy mushrooming and many more exciting endeavors ahead! 🍄😊

Hello Daniel. I discovered your videos minutes ago. i have been growing mushrooms for about a year, the little that i know is thanks to people that share info, but one of the main problems i found, its that there is not many people willing to spend time teaching others. i dont judge, but makes it harder for someone to keep moving foward in this beautifull field. thats why i want to say thank you for all the care you obviously put into making the videos, as well as the literature, you definetly changed my vision and hopes for the future. and any time you need anything please dont hesitate to ask, im from Mexico, and you can be sure that you have a friend and a student of yours... thanks my friend!

Hello @ASTRALSTUDIO84, I'm incredibly grateful for your kindhearted post and emails. Your support means the world to me, and the fact that you're putting yourself out there on my behalf is truly heartwarming. It brings me immense joy to know that you find my content not only relevant but also enriching in your life. Your remarkable achievements, forged through unwavering determination and hard work, are truly great. Since you've been generous in sharing with me, I'd like to reciprocate by sharing some thoughts about mushrooming. Right from the beginning, I made a deliberate choice not to walk the path of an influencer. Instead, I aspired to be an educator with a singular goal in mind - to dismantle the barriers that often deter people from embarking on a journey into the fascinating world of fungi. My belief in the transformative power of the mushroom cultivation process drove me to empower individuals to become makers. This empowerment allows them to regain control over at least some aspects of their lives in a world that has grown exceedingly complex, dominated by professional capitalist forces, relegating many to the role of mere consumers. This niche appeared to be the ideal starting point for rekindling the spirit of creation. Mushroom cultivation is an intricate process that demands personal growth from each grower. This growth is an internal journey, and my role is akin to providing that initial spark. Cultivating mushrooms cultivates a range of valuable skills, including endurance, determination, meticulous attention to detail, particularly in terms of hygiene, as well as a self-reliant understanding of technology and biology. What's truly remarkable is that it not only provides mushroom products inexpensively, which are typically considered quite costly, but it also elevates one's quality of life. Given that all mushrooms share the same fundamental needs, individuals can choose the varieties that best suit their preferences. I'm well aware of the numerous studies highlighting the benefits of psilocybin mushrooms, along with the expanding body of research supporting the advantages of medicinal mushrooms. And, for those with more discerning tastes, there are gourmet mushrooms. For me, the impact on character is just as important as a bountiful harvest. It's the principle of reaping what you sow - sow spores, and you get great mushrooms; sow determination and kindness, and you reap friends and a fulfilling life. Though this is a spare-time project for me, I'm consistently working on improving my systems. Finding the free time I desire can be challenging, but it brings me immense joy to know that the time I invested during the COVID lockdown has had a positive impact. I'd like to express my gratitude once again for your efforts in promoting my channel. Your kindness is deeply appreciated. Should you ever encounter issues with my content or have suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'd be more than happy to address any concerns. It's an honor to be part of the mushroom community, where everyone endeavors to make the world a bit better, one step at a time. Happy mushrooming!

Another good option is to strip an old fridge to use as a fruiting chamber, the seal and insulation has been a life saver for me as my shed is far to cold for a martha tent
@diy-mushroom-tek
@diy-mushroom-tek Жыл бұрын
Dear oggy, thank you for your great comment and suggestion. I completely agree with you, using an old fridge as a fruiting chamber is indeed another fantastic option. The insulation and seal of a fridge can be a real lifesaver, especially in situations where the shed or growing space is too cold for a martha tent. One of the key advantages of repurposing an old fridge is the value it brings through its insulation and available space. It provides a reliable barrier against external temperature fluctuations, which is crucial for maintaining the ideal environment for mushroom growth. In cases where a warm heating cellar is not available, relying on additional heating energy becomes necessary. This is where a DIY-controller board can come into play. In my own setup, I have incorporated a temperature controller in my DIY-controller board. This allows me to easily integrate a watertight reptile heating element, which helps achieve the specific temperature requirements for optimal mushroom cultivation. The insulation provided by the fridge further enhances the efficiency of this setup by reducing heat loss and ensuring a more stable internal environment. I must apologize for not including this information in my video. I genuinely believe that mushroom growers are resourceful and intelligent, capable of combining different housing techniques to suit their specific needs. However, your comment has reminded me of the importance of sharing such valuable insights with the community. I appreciate your contribution and will make sure to mention this option in future videos. Thank you once again, oggy, for pointing out the benefits of using an old fridge as a fruiting chamber. Your input is highly valued, and I apologize for the oversight. Happy mushrooming!

Hey, good presentation, i enjoyed the value benefit spread sheet, very neat way to compare stuff. Also, on the subject of mycology, i want to organize and track my generations neatly from the get go with a sort of genealogy software. I looked at my options but the softs i saw are all targeted to human genealogy, so only 2 parents are allowed. Are you privy to the subject, do you use/can you recommend me a software? I did not found proper information on the subject or example, maybe it would be a good video idea for the future. (How to use proper nomenclature and keep track of your gene collection) (How to organize...). Cheers
@linusgoblin
@linusgoblin 2 жыл бұрын
It would have custom fields, like: yield, time to colonize, time to fruit, special traits etc that with a search function could be plotted in a graph. The goal here will be to classify my future gene collection (spore, slants...) to be able to keep track of progress and particular traits for selection/breeding/trait consolidation purposes. One other neat function would be to have a calendar plotted from the information entered in those custom fields.

@@linusgoblin Yes, a value benefit analysis is sometimes quite useful. During designing TEK I fallowed roughly the approach of the “VDI Norm 2221”. Normally I just present the result of the process and not how I got to it. If one is interested, I would advice also to check out “QFD” and “The House of Quality”. Here is a good link: sixsigmastudyguide.com/house-of-quality-hoq/ Concerning your question, I do not have an answer. As I mainly grow reishi and just buy a new strain from a professional grower, I did not run into the task of genealogy yet. I think there are some pretty good Facebook groups with very nice and helpful people out there. I figure that is solutions to your problem already somewhere out there! Since I updated my System to Windows 11 and also bought a new PC I am now able to create my videos in a higher resolution. I have nearly finished the video about the DIY Heating System for Inoculation Box. Maybe you will want to switch from your hot water bottle to that cheap 12 V system. Money wise it is cheaper and easier to put the energy directly into a insulated inoculation chamber and not first into water to serve as a carrier. It always takes a lot of work and time to create one on these videos, so your feedback is always greatly appreciated. Thank you for that!

@@diy-mushroom-tek Awesome, thanks for the link, very usefull. Yeah i understand that, i got into mushroom for other reasons. For now its a hobby but im "digging the well" to potentially change trade. I want to build a big library of edible mushroom genetics and play with them, to be able to provide on demand ultra-specific mushroom for gastronomic restaurants and the like. Yeah i will continue to search, i need to register on forums and groups asap, i havent done it yet, im learning by myself by reading and watching some videos. Just need to break that mental barrier and go for it! As for the incubator, i upgraded mine with: - 20w Reptile Heating Pad with Adjustable Temperature Controller 220V -W3001 Digital Control Thermoregulator 220V I went for 220v to bypass the need of a 12v converter and to have a wee bit more efficiency. If you want i can send you pictures and a brief explanation of my setup to your email, or rather, as a challenge, i will create an account on some forums, make a post and send that link to you!

@@linusgoblin Hey, good for you! If one has a plan, then everything else falls in place. I see no reason why you should not be able the build up a great library of mushroom genetics. Sure, it may take some time, but with persistence a lot of obstacles can be moved! You are also well outspoken, so you will find many friends in the online communities as soon as you set out to find the others! I for my part can only say, I like to get a comment from you. I just finished uploading my DIY heating system for an inoculation box. I sticked to 12 V and all the basic components I used in my other builds. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKPbo2SEmq1jd9U But I understand that it is also a nice and easy way to take the elements you chose. These controllers all work the same and I guess all also use the same sensor. How do you place the heating pad? Do you put your agar plates directly on top of it? Or did you mount them up with something to be above it?
@linusgoblin
@linusgoblin 2 жыл бұрын
@@diy-mushroom-tek I also enjoy your kind and well written responses. My incubator is a small freezer, it has metallic shelves, i use the lowest one exclusively for the heating pad and the ones above for cultures, the lower shelves also rise the pad a bit from the plastic bottom. One can find such broken small freezer or fridge for free on local ads. All tho, the freezer is unmodified to have the best insulation, so there is no air exchange. I started to have too much grain jars and got concerned i would suffocate them. So i now use the incubator only for agar work. And i forgot to mention this! I went with a 220v system because i want to use this freezer as cold storage for my cultures in the future, of course i will make some tests to make sure it has consistent and accurate temperatures before putting live organisms in it.

Thank you for your feedback. I understand that the robotic voice might not be ideal for everyone. English is not my first language, and creating these educational tutorials was a significant effort for me-it took two years to produce them. At the time, I relied on the basic Microsoft text-to-speech engine, as it was the most accessible option available to me before tools like ChatGPT were around to help with content creation. I am passionate about sharing knowledge, and my focus has always been on providing useful content, rather than influencer-style production quality. I am aware of the limitations of the voice and hope to recreate these videos with improved vocals in the future, funds and energy permitting. In the meantime, all my recipes, processes, and designs are also available as PDFs, so you can explore the information without needing to listen to the voice. Could you please elaborate? Why do find that eBay is way cheaper? I mainly used AliExpress links because they deliver globally. In my experience, the shops there that deliver from China are also cheaper than the shops that deliver, for example, from Europe to Germany. It takes, of course, a few more weeks until you get your product. Anyway, I do not promote any shop. I also gain nothing from the links I provide. I did it just as a service to enable everyone to find the product quickly online. Whether one uses Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, etc. is up to them.
