Two copper washers were included in your filter kit but you never mentioned their application , I need to change my filter and these two smaller copper crush washers plus two large copper washers are included but I have found zero source as to their installation along with numerous complaints about leakage even after several attempts on off . Somebody somewhere must know what the washers are for .

Thanks for the very clear instructions. I tried to replace fuel filter already, but was afraid of breaking my fuel lines because the bolts wouldn't turn. So now I'll try the product you suggested. By the way, the fuel filter is located on the passenger side of the 1993 Toyota T100.

Hopefully that product eases the removal of the nuts, it typically works great in those applications. Also thanks for adding the tip of the location for the T100!

Great video, well detailed. Only thing I would add is kill the fuel pump and crank the engine to release pressure in the line. I do this by removing the EFI fuse under the hood or removing the ignition ING fuse in the cab also works. Also removing the gas cap to prevent any pressure in the tank from pushing out more fuel. I have done this twice, and the time I did not disable the fuel pump and crank it the fuel sprayed out a couple feet when removing the first side.

Great video! I enjoyed this, as it was fairly thorough. I have heard that using a rag tied around your wrists can stem the flow of fuel if you happen to spill any down your arm. Also, I think next time I do this on my T100 on any car with an in-line filter below the gas tank, I will wait until the tank is almost empty, and also clamp off the soft line running from the tank to the hardline to keep fuel from spilling out.
@EngineeredMojo6 жыл бұрын
Ahh the wrapped rag is a great tip, makes sense. Plan to use that as well as clamping soft line next go around. Thanks!
@johnmason5285 жыл бұрын
nice clear video thanks. just about to do the fuel filter on my '93 T100. Good tip about the flared 14mm wrench. i just changed out the fuel tank because it was rust through and leaking and when i un-did the fuel line which has the short flexible section, which has a 17 and 14mm junction at each end of the flexible section, i did exactly what you warned about with the fuel filter job ( ie i striped the nut as it is a soft bronze coloured metal. they were rusted solid so not sure if flare wrench would have worked but certainly seems like it would be a better tool than the open wrench i used. Solved the problem in the end by cutting the fuel lines and replacing with high pressure rubber lines, clamped to the old fuel lines. So im going to buy a flared wrench before i try to undo the fuel filter which also looks rusted solid.
@EngineeredMojo5 жыл бұрын
Those fuel line nuts can be a bear to remove and like you said half the time the nut is rusted from exposure to the elements. You came up with a good fix though, I plan to add the rubber high pressure line fix to my bag of tricks. Appreciate you taking the time to comment and sharing your experiences

But sometimes I crank it up it cut right back off and the ln I start it again and it takes a long time to crank up at the end it cranks up sluggish after holding key in ignition for a long time waiting until it starts I have a video of the long crank hard starting that it’s giving me
@EngineeredMojo2 жыл бұрын
I'd go through the basics and check fuel, spark, compression in that order given complexity. Check fuel pressure and using an inline spark tester on the plugs is fairly simple. If those check out move to compression test to see if that is given you your starting issues

My 4 runner cranks but no start. It’s been about 2 weeks now. Could it be fuel filter or fuel pump? ... 2002 4runner w/ 300xxx miles
@EngineeredMojo4 жыл бұрын
Could be, I doubt it's the fuel filter but it's a cheap replacement if it has never been changed before. Could be the fuel pump. Personally, I'd confirm I had spark then move to confirming fuel pressure given it's a bit tougher to confirm pressure on 3.4L engine variety given it's hard to place a fuel preasure gauge inline of the fuel line. If you confirm fuel and spark (spark tester loaner tool makes that easy) then last I would check compression (free loaner tool as well, pretty simple process)
@EngineeredMojo4 жыл бұрын

When you know it’s time to change it
@EngineeredMojo5 жыл бұрын
For the fuel filter in Tacomas there isn't a specified change interval. I usually will replace my fuel filter every 3 years or 60k miles. Just a number I pulled from I believe another Toyota car model. Thing is with fuel filters their lifespan is totally dependent on the quality of fuel being used which can vary between suppliers regardless of grade used.
@icub4ucstr85 жыл бұрын
My experience with these type of in line filters is that if your vehicle is performing as new then don’t worry about changing the fuel filter ... if you experience hard starting, hesitation either when leaving a stop quickly or when attempting to accelerate up a hill or when passing someone then start trouble shooting by changing the fuel filter first! I replaced a fuel pump once and it turned out it was just the filter ... costly misdiagnosis ☹️
