When i got my current 04 Suburban, it had a misfire and a P0300 code. Thats it. The worst misfire code you can have. Guy said it needed intake gaskets, which i sprayed around the intake and no change...i then went out and started unplugging coils one by one, until i got to the last one on cylinder one. No change. Replaced coil and plug and ran like a dream. There was the question of "why didnt it throw a P0301 code", but my answer thanks to your channel and growing my diagnostic knowledge, was the circuit was good and intact and the pcm saw the coil getting power and ground, and had control along with all other 7 cylinders. And a spark plug can't throw an engine light code itself because its not electrical like a coil. Thats why we dont arm the parts cannon, we do diagnosing first. Find the problem. Saves so much time and money.

After working on a 3.4 Toyota I never want to work on one again. First I did an engine swap. The 3.4 was actually in a 03 Tundra. The donor engine came from a 97 4Runner. Had to change a bunch of stuff over before I could even finish the swap. A day or two after the swap the head gasket popped. Unfortunately the owner had purchased the engine almost a year before so the warranty was long expired. He asked if I could do the head gasket for him, and I agreed. This was one of the weirdest engines I have ever torn down. I ran into all sorts of issues and had lots of bad luck, but I eventually got it back together and its running good again.

When my VW had a miss in it I replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor. Still had the miss. Time to take it to the shop. Mechanic tells me I just need new plugs, wires, cap & rotor. No, I tell him I just did all that. He says give him 20 minutes. 20 minutes later the old Scirocco was purring like a kitten. He replaced my crap with OEM parts. Lesson learned and I use quality parts now.

It's funny how the short and easy "how-to" videos are just so satisfying! Only thing I seen wrong was that the normal "backyard mechanic" (like me) doesn't have a high dollar scan tool to tell him exactly where to look, So I would've had to check each coil 1 by 1 till I found the bad one. Merry Christmas to Eric, Vanessa, and the chitlins!

good video. I came to the same conclusion on my tacoma 3.4 with 265000+ miles. P0300 and P0306. Cyl 6 is the middle coil but my cheap little reader didn't exactly tell me that cylinder 3 was the other culprit; just that another cylinder had a problem. Since 3 and 6 worked off the same coil, I replaced the coil. Not OEM (too much $$) at this mileage but a knock off. Check engine light off, no misfire and much quicker starts! Almost positive my MPG will come back! I feel like I have a new truck! It didn't take long to crank before but now it fires in half the time. Basically just turn the key and it starts.

My Tacoma had a miss that caused me to think there was something wrong with the driveline. A friend rode with me and said he thought it was a miss. The number 5 plug is the easiest to get to so I started there and lo and behold the plug was bad. I changed it and all the rest and it still runs like a top a year later. 😃

Got the exact same truck and swapped a coil in the fall. Started to get misfires on the #4 a couple weeks ago and immediately thought, well, there goes another coil- truck has 480 000 km on it, so not real surprising. Stuck the new coil in it, fired it up, still got the misfire. Since I had an extra set of wires from a scrapper, I just replaced the #4 wire, and boom, no misfire. I guess I should just check the easy fix first. But at least now I got a spare coil in the scrapper box.

You test for power and ground and they were working so next step is the module that gives cylinders 1 and 4 and that might be your issue. Next confirmation would have been to swap one of the known good cool pack but this is where experience prevails. New coil pack fires all cylinders and done. Happy holidays Mr O

Installing injectors means the fuel rail can drip some gasoline... so let a mobile mechanic do it. NO mistakes with any spark are tolerated.
