Having helped my son and quite a few of his friends install lift kits over the years, I constantly get asked the same questions...what brand and how much lift and how much money? The problem is, as owners, we get bitten by the bug so severely that we tend to trade quality for RIGHT NOW. Being a grey beard, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, but I always offer the following advice. Most of these vehicles cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $20-$40K. The bottom line is that the suspension is one of big 3 items that drivers judge in performance. With that being said, is 5% of your vehicles total value a good investment? $1000 for a lift kit sounds impossible to some but if you trade time for value, it’s achievable. The bottom line for me is to treat your suspension as a top player in your overall performance and let’s face it, happiness with your vehicle and be patient rather than go for quick stance fix to achieve 33’s or 35’s. We’ve all been there with stock envy, but exercising patience and good savings will give you a much better outcome and the potential to stretch for 10-15% of total value from the family comptroller (wife). With that I will get down from the soap box before my old knees give out...

Great advice, but note people go for cheaper options because we don’t have 3 grand to pay upfront. Financing would be a game changer, and that’s often harder to get for parts than even financing the vehicle itself.

Great informative video. I loved the editing touches. The 2" is a true leveling kit because it brings the front exactly in line with the back. It is also much easier on the front suspension components because the geometry changes are cut in half as apposed to the 3 1/2" lift kit. Your suspension can withstand that change. I agree, anything more and do it right, especially if you plan on doing serious off roading or rock climbing. Thanks for a very well put together video Lonestar!

How's that knuckle kit holding up? I'm considering getting it for my 2010 Silverado. Does it keep the angle on cv axles good?
@edwardlance2379
@edwardlance2379 4 жыл бұрын
@@zappazgaming7453 Yes, that's the whole point of a knuckle kit is to get the lift, but to keep the angles good. Essentially, you are widening the gap between the UCA and LCA. They aren't without downsides though. Knuckle kits typically increase the track width, depending on brand it can be a fairly significant increase. And to compound that problem, in many cases you can't mount stock wheels or any wheels with stock offset and backspacing, so a set of wheels with the offset and spacing that will work is required too. You also have the choice of a "hybrid" lift, that uses both lifted knuckles with the addition of bottom and top drop brackets and different control arms (the Cognito kit is a good example). They try to address every drawback from the other two methods. They aren't cheap though, I think the Cognito kit is just a tad over $2,000 for the basic kit, add $540 if you want the Cognito UCA's (with ball joints), or around $800 more if you want them with uniballs. Unfortunately, lifting independent type suspension isn't as straight forward as full axle lifts because of the arms and the way they work. No matter which method you go, there is always a trade off.

Royal Purple HPS. RP is one of only 3 available oils that is a TRUE synthetic. Remember, just because it says "Synthetic" doesn't means the whole bottle (litre/quart) is all synthetic, it could be filled 50% conventional and topped off with synthetic or less... Mobil 1 is a lot thinner overall than all other brands (lower viscosity) which is fine if you live in Antarctica. A Mobil 5w-30 variant tends to act more like a 0w-30 oil if you were to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on your (4.8/5.3/6.0 Silverado) or whatever engine you have and compare another brand against it.

Did you ever look into Fabtech lift spindles? They give you 3 inches of lift roughly and are a stronger steering knuckle than factory while maintaining factory geometry. I run them with a 2 inch Readylift spacer and my a-arms are relatively parallel with the ground when the suspension is under load.

Recently did my last oil change 7 months ago. Using a K&N HP-2011 Performance Wrench-Off Oil Filter and 6 quarts of Castrol GTX Magnatec SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil. From my perspective these two items did absolute wonders for my 2013 Ford F150 Lariat 3.5L V6 EcoBoost. Prior to these two changes I was using the standard Ford Motorcraft FL-500S Oil Filter and Mobil1 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil, which in my honest opinion was doing more harm than good. Since then, applying these two "upgrades" my pickup truck is doing much much much better. Night and day difference when it came to raw power. My truck just feels more alive than usual. I wouldn't go back for anything.

All GM dealerships use Mobil 1, it’s just the quarts bottles are rebranded as AC Delco. Any oil you use should also be Dexos rated, as it meets the strict lubricant, cleaner, and protection requirements as set for GM products. Nothing against other brands like Castrol, Royal Purple, etc., but I’d just use what they recommend, just in case problems arise; That way they know it’s the products fault, not the oil or you.

I was using Valvoline full synthetic but I’m switching to Mobil 1. I’m thinking about a leveling kit for my 09 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. I’m glad I watched this. I know they offer a suspension lift for $500 that I’m thinking about also. That one is 3 1/2” vs a 2 1/2” leveling kit. I think I saw one from American Trucks. I know Rough Country seems to be the go to for any lift or suspension mods but there are a lot of competitors that offer these lifts also. I guess I’ll do the research but more than likely go with Rough Country. 😎👍🏼

I walk right past the mobile 1 and grab the super tech synthetic at Wally World. Just sold my 06 Chevy with 224k on it. It ran as strong as the day bought it. I ran into the guy that bought it a little while back and he thanked me for maintaining it so well . I run super tech in all four of my vehicles in Michigan’s weather with no problems . Thinking about leveling my new truck but nothing over 2” up front. Mostly stock for me because it’s much easier to sell. I personally would never buy a used truck that’s been lifted even though I’d consider lifting one myself. Like they say, once you start changing the angles ,everything wears much faster.

Bryan Lewis Synthetic oil is not much more. It's only about $23 for Mobil 1 at Walmart lasts 2 times longer I change every 12,000 on my Silverado and lubricates much better in extreme cold or heat. Worth every penny

Personally I have a 2006 1500 and I've always used Mobile 1 full synthetic with a Bosch oil filter, mostly because Autozone offers deals every other month and I can get both the filter and 5 quarts of oil for about $35. But I just hit 290K on my truck and haven't had any issues. But I also change my oil every 3-5k miles.

So what is a "better kit?". All I get in the 3.5" lifts are these but with upper control arms for about $600. I don't want to go real high as I don't want huge tires.

Castrol is ok use to work at an oil shop and ever body says that there dad grandpas etc use to use it it use to be a quality oil but that was back then now my personal opinion is mobile 1 or penzoil a lot of people don't know that penzoil is used in a lot of NASCAR formula one because its not recycled oil and has the least wear and tear on the motor

So I ordered the 3 1/2 inch rough country suspension lift, it comes with knuckles and rear shocks. I asked Rough Country if it’s necessary for the upper control arm to be replaced and he said no but do you think eventually this is something I should replace? Anything else down the road do you think should or could be replaced? Thanxs !!

I noticed your cracked dash. Are there plans to replace or cover that? I have the one common crack on the left side of the airbag cover. A carpet mat is the quick "fix" but for $160 I might get a cap for it that doesn't require removal.

Nicholas Bradley I freaking hate this Chevy dash... they need to recall it. I plan on pulling it off and repairing it, but I’m certain all the mounting points are just as brittle and will probably break as I remove. It...

Also unless you have a solid front axle that’s the way your front wheels flex. Yes you are right that lift causes it to be extreme and bad for the front end but naturally that’s how they flex

I am putting a 3.5in GM Suspension Lift | Knuckle Kit (14-18 1500 PU 4wd) on my 2017 Silverado with the lifted struts and v2 monotube shocks....... is this a good kit??

Aloha bro I'm on the East side and enjoy your vlog. Been lifting my GM full size trucks for 30 years. Currently in 2015 sierra denali with a fabtech 6 inch kit. Been running fabtech kits on all my GM full size trucks. In my opinion a 3.5 inch spacer is too much. 2.5 inch is the most you should go with before spending the money on a real left kit. If you ever come out for a cruise or a surf sesh give me a shout I'm a mile from sandys. Btw I'm running Mobil one full syn in all my vehicles but the denali gets amsoil 0w20. Aloha
