I am tempted to watch this video again and again because it’s very encouraging.

I'm impressed. I had my first one done 11/19/24 and the second one is scheduled for 2/28/25. I'm motivated to play more tennis, so without surgery I was limited to an hour or so. I'm already feeling better on my replaced knee, especially downhill with much less fatigue. Would love to do more hiking as well. You are doing what all surgery patience should do. Work those legs!

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I've watched all your knee replacement videos and they were helpful and encouraging. I'm 3 months post tkr surgery on my right knee and will get my left knee done when it gets worse. It's amazing to hike and not be in pain every step - makes me smile when I'm hiking. Only regret was waiting so long to do it. Thanks for sharing!

Great to hear your update and thank you for sharing. I found your videos back in April right after my TKR. You were my inspiration during those early weeks when I had doubts that going through the surgery was worth it. I followed your example, started walking distance as soon as I could, focused on PT. My recovery was quick and exceeded all my expectations. Thanks again.

You’re the one that did all the hard work for a great recovery. Great job and best of luck to you on your journey!

It’s great to hear how well your knees are doing over time. Staying active truly is important. It’s nice that you have such beautiful trails to hike on.

Glad you are doing well. Indoor bike training on Zwift continues to enable me to continue hiking despite needing a knee replacement. The harder I ride the better my knees feel. I had a hip replacement 17 years ago and that was a complete blessing. How many more summers of hard hiking before I throw in the towel and have a knee replacement, that is unknown. Best wishes and carry on!

If you can still hike reasonably comfortably then put it off. I like your bike strategy!

Thank you so much Ape Man. I'm 55 and up until recently, I was a very active cyclist, hiker, etc... Your positive videos keep me motivated and help me realize that I will be able to keep on enjoying some of the activities that I love. I'm glad you're doing well and I look forward to your future videos.

I love it! I’m almost 5 mos post surgery on my right, and 3 mos post surgery on L. It’s a new lease on life. I was very fortunate in my recovery, but I did do PT exercises 2-3x/day. I’m 64, and back on the trail - and still doing stretches, balance, strength, endurance exercises.

I’m so happy for you! Sounds like you did the work and are enjoying the trails again! I’m 64 also and the hiking keeps us young!

So for backpacking, can you do the squat? You know what I mean! One of those necessities.
@gransol321511 ай бұрын
Thanks for posting after so long after surgeries. It is not easy to find this kind of TKR long term feedback in the internet. Question: Can you squat completely and stay down for some time and stand up again without using your arms? Thanks 👍
@ApeMan11 ай бұрын
Squaring can be limited because you don’t have full flexibility but I can do it and can get up without using my arms. Took a while to get there. No way I’m going to catch a baseball game but short term I can do it. I usually just get on the ground instead of squaring and I can get up without arms but use my hands anyway!

I need to get knee surgery soon I ws thinking about doing both at the same time. Any advice?
@ApeMan11 ай бұрын
With the relatively long recovery time it would be great to get it over with all at once. You’ll need a good care giver the first couple weeks. Work really hard on on your rehab and getting that flexibility and you can do it. Good luck!
@gransol321511 ай бұрын
Hello Ape Man!, one more question: I am an active sailboat cruising sailor. Have you had the chance to sail with you new knees? I will go under TKR surgery in a few months from now and I wonder if I will be limited in my mobility around the boat. Mainly due to vertical and higher than normal steps. Also I am concerned about balance. I am 58 years old with tricompartimental arthrosis in both knees. Sailing my sailboat is becoming a growing challenge with my bad needs... 😞
@ApeMan11 ай бұрын
I’m not a sailor so don’t know what sailing entails but I think you will better after a TKR. Work really hard on your rehab and maximizing flexibility and try to keep your weight down. Big steps are a problem for 3-6 months but will get better over time. The recovery time takes some time so don’t let the first few weeks get you down as it will get better week to week. Best of luck on your journey!
