I find that if you just put your kick four on the floor and all other elements off beat, then things work out fine. Melodic house and traditional house puts the clap or snare on every other kick. Just don’t do that and you’re fine lol.

I tend to agree: Keep the 2nd and 4th 1/16-note occupied with a good mix of toms and African instruments and add a shaker-loop on top, and you're pretty much there:)
