I highly highly doubt any group could get through that, the place is highly fortified in both defense and surveillance, and threat detection, plus whatever other technology they may have, but multiple armed Military marksman even if they don't have other types of technology we do not know about, is very likely plenty. These guys are well trained and have orders to shoot to kill any threat to the base. You cannot get within a mile of that place without Camo Dudes showing up and asking questions, they are also hostile in my experience, and will have you arrested if you even so much as come close to the area. so no.. you are very correct it is a laughable thought. Actually there have been attempts, but no one has ever made it in there so far. I highly doubt anyone ever will, unless like the end of the world scenario happens and there are no more military or camo dudes to defend it for whatever reason. They also have drones, air support, and other re-enforcements should the base ever come under siege. Rendering it nearly impossible to do anything like that.

Soon as you are close there is a patrol sent to intercept you and tell you to go back way before the first gate. At the gate there is already soldiers and baracades, unless you are one of them or you have special permission to enter or they have orders to let you pass you will not get inside no matter who you are.

My guess is, it's either some kind of alien weapon that we reverse engineered, or it's some kind of sentry robot that is guarding entry to that door. That laser/light that made them explode had me creeped out, however the military has invented some sort of microwave device that when aimed at people can make them feel really sick and disorientated so they have to run away. So maybe they made something like that but more powerful to make people explode when the thing is targeted at them.
