Dear Mr Pierce, I would like to thank you for your solo guitar teaching for the J Hendrix video cast. What a kind and generous person you are to give so much of yourself to the world. Your clear steps and excellent teaching technique have shown me a new world: the lead guitar. Thanks to you I have been given the keys to enter electric lady land. Jimi turned us on to a style of guitar that lives on, and you have shown us the way to play like him. Your playing is fabulous as well.

There is a beauty in humility and a willingness to show vulnerability - particularly when an amazingly gifted artist does so... I will be working on these tonight and expect a level of incompetence that would boggle the mind - but you don't get better playing the same licks you know!

LOL..!! I was literally cracking up! It's so funny seeing a guitarist who can obviously play like anything spot on, struggle with a finger exercise! Not that these exercises are easy . I'm gonna go grab the guitar & see how bad I butcher these exercises. Then I'll just play some Jeff Beck material. LOL!! I think that kinda sounded like sarcasm but it really wasn't. Love the videos brother, I always take away something from all of your experience. Even if it's some session stories, they're as entertaining or better than a new technique,etc....... Thanks for sharing.... ✌️

metal micky - have you seen tim play? that dude cuts it so strict, he is obviously being nice to the kid pretending its hard for him. he could literally do those exercises on a two by four with bass strings, with his eyes closed, with tape around the joints of his fingers to impede movement, and tim would just laugh as he effortlessly plowed through those exercises. this guy, who has played on every big album ever, whether it be lead or rhythm, doesn't struggle with anything, for he is the six string slayer, the guru of guitar, the master of movement, and the greatest by far: he is tim!

There are many variations of this exercise in Scott Tennant’s book Pumping Nylon. Use all finger combinations: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 1+3, 2+4, and 1+4.

jeff dubuque Yes, it’s a great exercise for building finger independence and dexterity. It’s a very humbling exercise at first, even for experienced players. I recommend you practice it in the fifth position since it’s less fatiguing. You can see Scott Tennant demonstrate all the fingering variations in the following videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4mrqadvob2ipac and kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4SuipStZaybmqs.
