This is my new pan-tilt-roll gimbal for my GoPro HD camera. It is supposed to go onto a remote controlled airplane for FPV and aerial video. The whole mechanical structure was printed (laser sintered) by Shapeways.
www.shapeways.c...
This test shows the first test of 3-axis gyro stabilisation. It still needs a lot of tweaking (I already made a few improvements - stand by...). Here the gyro sensors are on the mount (i.e. will be on the plane, also for the stabilisation of the plane itself). In the final version there will be another gyro sensor directly on the camera, which should make it much more precise.

Man this is great. Awesome job man. I will look into this more once I build a hexacopter or a quadcopter not sure what I am going to do yet.

It's like a mechcanical chicken's neck. Which gets me thinking... chickens have an auto-tilting camera mount, and wings even, so they have a lot of useful airborn functionality. ...all they need is... a rocketpack. BRB shapeways!

Ya know, about 10 seconds of this would have been enough. What piqued my interest was the chance to see the unit being disturbed, and the resulting video from it. Do you have something on that?

If i am going to build a 3-axis brushless gimbal, i think i would want it to be smooth, and not settle for anything less.

@martcerv yea, i have a hunch that it is not that stable. there seems to be some micro movements because of that electroic gear-or maybe its just a lag of the device- that will cause the footage to look jumpy. seems like it tracks great! but still i guess a mechanical device [not electronic] will do a smoother job. nevertheless, this thing looks cool! and it might need some more work to perform better.

Excellent work!! Did you sell it with the gyro?? If yes, I want to have one!! How much does it costs??

Excellent, I was wondering would it be hard to add a roll axis to the assembly? Would it make the whole thing too heavy? It looks better than what I've seen some repraps produce but I still would like to have my own Mendel.

Great work! Does the casing isolates the sound from the servos?

It needs to return to zero in order to be of much use as a stabiliser, unless you plan to always point it in the same direction. The speed at which it should return to zero is the distance from zero in percent minus half the distance the gyro is telling it to move in percent.

@helixdesign Do let us know when a package would be available. This is neat! Especially for motorcycle ride videos if I can mount it somehow. :D

dude, can you make a tutorial on how you made the motor and how everything works, like from step to step. I want to make it exactly like that when I buy the plastic from your website. I need to know how you got it to work like that

I've been looking to make a 1 axis mount for the motorcycle, basically like the motogp gyroscopic camera, I've been messing with heading hold gyro's but haven't had much luck (cheap china knockoff gyros). can you tell me what gyro and if you have to have it hooked up to a rc receiver or can you just run batteries directly to the gyro which is connected to a servo? let me know,

When using on a multirotor, how would you mix the 2 servos for roll if I used 3 separate gyros?

Great work, would you be able to do a single axis mount similar to the Rossi MotoGP one (google it) I know a bucketload of MC racers that would pay for a GoPro mount that would allow you to capture lean angle (myself included)

Wouldn't it have been alot easier to just buy a 3 axis gyro rather then building it yourself? They are pretty cheap these days.
