Thanks for putting in the work! BTW, the Ohuhu stove fits perfectly inside an MSR 775ml stowaway (wide) pot, so it takes up no extra space in your pack. Also, it's a TLUD (top-lit updraft) stove. Pack it full of twigs like a can full of upright pencils and top it off with a little tinder and a Vaseline cotton ball. Light it, come back in 5 minutes to a roaring flame. Boil your water in ten minutes and you still have 10-15 minutes of simmering left. No fire maintenance or feeding needed once lit. It's still heavy but once you dial in a setup like the above, it's low hassle. Also, I've used a computer fan grill to hold small pots on it. The grill easily fits inside the stove.

BEST STOVE REVIEW I'VE SEEN!! I have watched so many review video's and this one is so direct, simple, on subject, clearly spoken, fast ( not a bunch of side tracked bs ) Good quality video/audio and close up examples of how each goes together works and breaks down. Excellent job. Plus, I Love the fact that you edited the parts that wastes my time, like lighting the fires, collecting wood etc. You sold me on the small Lixada stove, it's the one I've been looking at. A+

I always keep a piece of 1/4” grid hardware cloth with each of my stoves. Just set it on top of the stove and it will safely support smaller pots and cups. It's flat, so no worries about bulk. Nice video!

I’m an emberlit guy all the way! It’s not finicky. Light a fire, put pot on, cook, eat. Done. I have the stainless steel one for carcamping and the titanium for backpacking. I’ve tried quite a few of them and i like the emberlit. It’s also American made and the founder of the company is really cool! The customer service is top notch. Great comparison vid👍🏼

On the round wood gasifier stove you can flip the pot supports to the centre and it then it balances a much smaller pot really well. I also find that filling it and then lighting it from the top is more efficient. I have also just got a Titanium version of the Emberlit from AliExpress and looking forward to trying that out.

Yes, and fyi, Lixada makes a similar round, 2 chamber (gasifier) stove with a fuel entry cut out and a better pot holder.

Yeah the gasifier is a stove that you just need common sense to use.its a damn good stove if used right.but its not idiot proof lol.i prefer wood gas stoves.as a back up anyways.nothing has beat my svea with the sigg tourest base and pot kit yet.but while the sigg has a wood burning configuration its more or less a hobo stove.wood gas stoves just seem to be a more efficient style.and if i wanted to my svea burner will drop in the ohuhu well and so would a trangia.and fuel tabs will work as well as the wax and wood chip pucks and buddy burners.the versitility is there.just have to know how to use it lol.

@franksmedley86194 жыл бұрын
Hello Taylor. There is a simple solution for the 'pot is too small for the top' problem. All you need is to get your hands on stainless steel thick mesh. Cut a piece to be about 3/8th inch wider than the top of the stove when assembled, and place the mesh atop the stove after assembly. If you desire compactness, take the mesh and cut it into 4 equal squares and roll one edge for each piece. Now, you can add a pair of 'pins' to allow you to push a pin linking two mesh sections. Two of these should span the top of the stove easily, but you should allow for the rolled edge where the pin will insert, ,and thus your 'squares' will start out as rectangles before you roll the extra mesh along one edge to make the pin connection slot. Yes, make sure your pins are good steel as well, since they will be spanning the center of the stove. Another way that is a bit more finicky is to do a similar thing, but with triangular pieces of mesh that are rolled along two edges. The resulting pinned together mesh will have an 'X' of pins through the center, and the pin ends will rest on the upraised edges of the stove. OR, you can go with the simplest solution... use a 'bag' from a larger folding stove to carry your chosen stove, and a large enough piece of the mesh that will easily overhang all edges of the stove after assembly. Just a few thoughts, speaking, Frank-ly

I love little pack stoves, out of those three I don't have the solid fuel one. I have two gasification stoves, one is a stainless steel one similar to this one and the other is a smaller boundless voyage titanium one, the larger SS one I've got close to an hour of useful heat on a single fill no adding fuel after lit and the smaller Ti one between 30-40 min. With the gasification if filled right and lit from the top you get the best burn with little difficulty, I do prefer my smaller Ti one. I have various hinged (lixada on the way) or slotted put together stoves, for both types I love how little space they take up and with the hinged how easy they flop open to assemble. Great video,

I chose the Lixada folding stove you showed at 1:50 for its ability to fold flat and it has the cross bars to support even a small can or cup. The Ohuhu seems like it might be able to cook with the least amount of wood, but that is not usually a problem. Thanks for the review it looked really good.
@Anthonyinkz5 жыл бұрын
The lixada does come with 2 metal strips that form a cross on top for a pot stand, you can easily stand any pot on top of it and its very stable. A tip for hot spots, sit on top a bunsen burner gauze that has a ceramic center, it displaces the heat more evenly.

Nice review mate. 👍 I have a version of the woodgas Ohuhu made by Livada (£18) and also the much more expensive foldable Bushbox. I love both and find they work excellent in their own way. The woodgas stove stove can be loaded up and because you light it from the top and the wood burns downwards so it can last a good 1/2 hr or up to a full hr depending on the wood you burn before you need to refill. Also the flanges on the top can be flipped inwards to mount a small cup or pot to sit on top. A really great feature of the woodgas burning effect is that once it gets fully going there is NO smoke given off which is fantastic. It also fits inside the zebra 140mm camping pot. The bushbox is great for a quick fire that you add wood to when needed and for a longer duration fire I use the woodgas stove. They both work great with a Trangia too. Thanks again 😀

Lixada hands down because of price, packability, weight and ease of use. Not only can it run off twigs but it can also run off an alcohol stove or esbit fuel tabs. I use this stove all the time, doesn’t cause hotspots unless using thin gauge material like titanium.

You missed the best one and I normally do not say something is the best but in this case it is. The Solo Stove Lite is the ideal wood burning bio mass stove. There are a lot of reasons it's better then the others but my favorite reason is this. It's also an alcohol stove in two different ways.... 1st way , you can use a little alcohol stove in it like the Trangia in place of burning wood. You can ( this and the Bush Buddy are the only two ( Backpacking ) wood burning stoves that can do this ) The stove by itself as a alcohol stove. The ash pan in the bottom of the stove can be filled with alcohol ( about 3/4 oz works really good ). It's a great way to heat some water in a hurry for a hot beverage. Or to reconstitute a dehydrated meal when you can not locate any wood or dry wood. By the way the reason I say the Solo Stove is the best and better then the Bush Buddy is because it costs the lease between the two of them.

I have a couple versions of the lixada. I like them but since I got my firebox stove, I like it better. I have a gasification stove like your ohuhu but mine has a better top. It can fit a small pot and has a decent opening to feed the fire, which is why I got it off amazon or eBay. But it holds a long fire if you use pellets. I use it for home or car camping. My fav is my firebox nano for backpacking cuz it is a powerhouse.

For any of the three square stoves, you can get a couple of metal rods and slide them through the many holes to act as racks to hold small diameter pots; a little imagination could go a long way. I don't like the round stove, it takes up too much room. I like the QuickStove because you can fill the cavity with other fire starting stuff or any camping item that will fit inside. Thank you for the vd.

6 yrs late but you can cut and add some coat hanger stabelizer hooks to the top of the lixada. this also helps against the expansion from the fire and your pot falling into the fire. Also with the ohoho, I would use a grill or grate cut to size and then you can use any size pot or cup.

@jw9346 жыл бұрын
Instead of feeding the fire, what I found was 32g of dry wood sticks is enough to boil 2 cups of water and keep it boiling for 3 minutes. Unless the wood sticks have been drying in the sun or the relative humidity is under 20%, you might need a few more grams of wood to account for the wood moisture level. As long as you can reduce the burn rate of the wood sticks to make it last 10 minutes, and be able to capture that heat with your pot, even 28 g of dry sticks is sufficient to boil 2 cups of water. Not having to feed the fire means you can stand a few feet away from the stove and avoid inhaling the smoke. It also means the stove can be designed to be wind, rain and snow resistant. A stove that can perfectly stabilize the pot on top and is wind and rain resistant should be able to boil water or cook while being carried on the move on a hike. Here is my home made version of one such design - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmPRo6KQh5ilfKc

Not sure if it's been said but if you use the gasification correctly it will hold a small pot (I use the Stanley you did with no problem) and you need to pack the wood in. Dollar stores carry Cheapo wire grills for a dollar. You can cut the corner off of one of them to fit those tripod supports that face up. I would leave enough on for a handle to lift up if you need to pick it up to add more wood while it's hot. It would work on all three of the stoves and any size cup would fit on that Grill it would raise it up less than 1/16 of an inch. So it should do you a better job

How much do those things weigh? I would never want to carry anything like the Ohuhu as I imagine it is quite heavy. However, I am sure it would be good for car camping. I use a Vargo Titanium Hexagonal Stove. I did have to drill extra ventilation holes on four of the sides. There are numerous videos on how to modify it. My stove is also completely hinged and sets up in seconds. I can also invert it for use as a small grill. Titanium is a bit pricier, but it is definitely worth it when hiking (cools faster, lighter weight).
