I prefer a Harrington jacket, instead of a Bomber jacket. Harringtons are naturally water-resistant. Steve McQueen had several in different colours.

A shirt jacket or shirt jac is more of a jacket that is too big and beefy to be worn alone without a shirt of some type underneath. While an overshirt is more of an oversized shirt size-wise. With today's fashion like other clothing types the lies blur between different types. I have both types in my closet.

Im with Ashley, shacket with British weather a waxed cotton jacket or Carhartt jacket with a hood is essential. Unfortunately suede and leather would fair well in our climate they are better suited to late spring. For autumn/winter I size up on the outer layer to allow for woolens shirts and a fleece jacket or vest generally works well for me after 50 years...
