In this video we see the best setting to achieve better speed, power and control with the pedal.
Those setting can be applied for every pedal, in this case is a Iron Cobra 900 Power Glide but I use the same on my DW 5000.
The three main setting are:
Lenght of the beater
Distance of the beater to the head, or the height of the foot borad
The tension of the spring
In this video we see how to set those 3 and also we will fix some common mistake.
Those tips are suitable for single pedal as well as single pedal!

It depends on what speed your looking to play. This tension would be best only for really extreme speeds... like over 250 bpm. You would have a really uncomfortable time playing any music other than extremely fast metal. You lose feel and all dynamic ability at such a high tension. But it is necessary if you're looking to play at the highest speeds possible.

The video title also says "control", but with a spring tension set at a maximum you actually have less control (or let's say: it's way more difficult to control the pedal). Sure, you can easily go super fast (esp with the Iron Cobra), but control & feeling don't benefit from it. I personally find myself setting my spring more and more loose over the years, but still without making compromises in speed. Actually I can go very fast AND have a better feeling & control at the same time. But maybe that's just me...?! ;-) The foot stopper thing: many players actually have their foot way too high on top of the pedal. The sweet spot is obviously a bit more down (a few centimeters above the middle I'd say). But again, there is no "ultimate truth" to this. Each drummer has other preferrences of course.

Clearblue Skys actually most of the time people think „high spring tension -> fast“. Most metal drummers tell you something different. Like medium or higher spring tension but not max. With max tension you work more against the pedal than with the pedal. I changed to medium spring tension too because i couldnt play with the ankle technique.

Totally agree ,my settings( Iron Cobra powerglide twin) are just above minimum spring-tension, my beaters hit below the center of the bassdrum ( 24 inches). because there is a better rebounce at that point.
@PaulMarangoni
@PaulMarangoni 3 жыл бұрын
So true. Setting the spring to maximum tension would only make sense if the spring is old and has lost all of its tension. Otherwise, no way are you going to be able to play relaxed.

I'm starting to be able play stuff like Fleshgod Apocalypse's songs with a regular Iron Cobra so yeah it IS possible to go very fast. I'm using mostly the swivel motion myself but I've seen other drummers use heel toe very decently too with the same pedal tho most people seem to recommend using long board models for optimal results with heel toe. Guess I'm gonna have to try out a few models before deciding if I go with long board or not... or just get a Demon Drive from pearl that can be switched between both settings in a few minutes. Thanks for the video, looks like my current settings were good after all.

Hi, Try to understand where the sound comes, use some lubricant, in general, will make your pedal last longer, or bike grease.
@asms_music417
@asms_music417 5 жыл бұрын
you need to raise the angle of the footboard. I like IC pedals (the 900s, at least) b/c you can adjust the angle of the footboard independently of the beater angle. The beater shaft isn't welded to the cam - look where they attach
@kstailey56
@kstailey56 5 жыл бұрын
You may have to release the chain from the footboard, remove at least one, maybe two chain links and then re-attach IF the Footboard is bottoming out, this will raise it maybe a little under a half inch. No more bottoming out. Now, place a tiny drop of oil on that old chain - he's thirsty.

Hmmm. I spent years thinking maximum spring tension was better. Watched a Rob Brown video where he said to loosen the tension up. Tried it, set it more than 75% loose, and boom. Instantly more power and control. Sorry, but my experience says that maximum tension yields minimum control and much less power.

This doesn't work for everyone. Most famous drummers will say they use their spring tension at a midway tension for an all around standard feel. This adjustment may work with speed metal or any type of aggressive drumming, but for an all around tension for session players or drummers of a less aggressive drumming genre, it's not feasible..

I also have my beaters not super low but lower than most and I can play with plenty of power
