Thank you so much Dude! I just got my Dbl Bass Pedals today & you gave out some really good pointers! The Recoil sync & ensuring our tension is adjusted right so that we get 4 - 5 recoils after striking! Nobody tells you that! LOL! And adjusting the beaters. I virtually had no idea how far they should be! And tightening our springs! I super appreciate ALL the info you presented here! Thank you so much! I’m super pumped about using them! 🤘🏼💋🤗💕

Great video, man. The recoil thing is from a really old Dave Lombardo Clinic in Italy ;)

Thanks for the video! Totally different way of checking double pedal adjustments that I haven't seen before. I'm going in to test mine now! Bonus points for quickly getting to the point and not starting the vid with a 3 minute drum solo and/or 5 minutes of a song forced down the viewer's throat just to get to the content! (Wow....I think I just unloaded some deep down, repressed anger towards some other people's videos - sorry 'bout that!) Thanks again!

putting a second spring on the slave pedal at around 10 percent on the tension really helps with the evenness

I have the iron cobra 600, with a dw beater. The pedal that’s loose is the second bass pedal.

When i push my beaters to the bass drum and let go, the left pedal does 3 returns then stops whereas my right pedal does about 20 ish but its in sync for one bounce is there any way of fixing it thanks in advance

Thanks man. Useful stuff. I'm thinking of going for either Tama 900 series or the direct drive of any company. Which do you recommend for fast hertas?

Also, when do you think you should buy new springs for your pedals?
@Starkill6 жыл бұрын
I've only ever replaced my springs once. And that was because they broke.

I feel like my foot pedal just doesn't have enough response to do consistent beats, I have a Dw3000. thought it was the springs getting looser

Bro I tighten the screw all the way the screw that’s holding the beater in and the beater still twists and turns and eventually flies out of the hole, idk how to securely make it stay. Sorry if I don’t make sense haha
@Starkill5 жыл бұрын
sounds like you probably have a stripped screw or the hole itself is actually stripped.
@TheMasonator7774 жыл бұрын
Peyton Stevens Lock-tite it, if it’s loose and not stripped.

Sounds like your direct link bearings are trashed! I replaced mine with regular linear bearings, 625 size IIRC. I replaced the heel plate bearings as well.

Dont really agree with the beaters being close to the head to be considered cheating. Great pedals though.

"Cheating" may have been the wrong word choice. I just tend to see less experienced drummers set their pedals up that way when triggering, because it's easier for them to get quick bursts of fast notes, which sounds really impressive if you're new to the trigger game, but setting them a little bit further back helps you develop control. Again, it's all preference, and as long as you are practicing correctly and play cleanly, do whatever works best for you.

Instead of syncing the recoil response just get another bass drum. You also sound better because having two kicks insures the beater hits directly into the center of the drum producing a better tone. Its also easier to set up two separate pedals the same then it is to set up a double pedal for consistency. However I do agree with his ascertions that a direct drive pedal with tight spring tension is best for speed. And that there is a 1:1 ratio with direct drive response.

Totally disagree. Having two kick drums causes way more problems than benefits in my personal experience. Problem 1 - Space: Two kicks take up an insane amount of space, both on stage, and in the trailer. This alone is enough of a reason for us to never use two kicks in a live setting, Problem 2 - Inconsistent Heads: You have to make sure both beater heads are exactly the same tension if you want the same response. Whether you have 2 kick drums or just 1, you still have to calibrate your pedals, but the extra drum tension matching is a pain in the ass. Problem 3 - You have to make sure that when mic'ing up two kick drums, that you have both mics in the exact same spot with the exact same preamp and EQ and compression settings. If somebody accidentally bumps into one microphone, the balance between the two kicks will cause it to sound ridiculous. Having an extra microphone on the kit also increases the chances of feedback or just errors in general. The less you have on stage, the less you have to worry about. There are countless drummers who play with double pedals on just one kick. In fact, many many touring drummers who have two kick drums on stage are actually just using the second one was a dummy kick and still using a double pedal on a single kickdrum, purely to avoid all the aforementioned problems listed above. At the end of the day it all comes down to preference and there is no right or wrong, but it's undeniable that it takes a lot more work to get two kick drums with two pedals to sound the same than it takes to get a double pedal calibrated properly on a single kick drum.
