I found your channel a few weeks ago and really enjoy your insight and enthusiasm. Glad at hear you preach the benefits of real estate investment. As a landlord of almost 30 years, I will tell you I have found nothing that compares. I've flipped a few homes but mostly buy and rent. I've spent my life in the building maintenance trades so I do all my own work. My wife does all the taxes and paperwork so we make a good team. The passive income is more than I can spend, the tax breaks are tremendous. I'm 60 and we've been debt free for 25 years and have a 8 digit portfolio. We also have stock portfolios with only dividend paying stocks. All my properties are in Southern California where I live, all are in 55+ senior communities so there's no chance of kids tearing the place up, no one looses a job because they're all retired, and since the pandemic I've not had one missed rent check. Real Estate, second only to Show business. ;)

Hey guys, I really appreciate you! 😊 I have one major question though: You talk a lot about pre-tax and other retirement accounts where your money is more or less locked up until you're 60 years old. And for the other type of accounts you mention you also say it's a terrible idea to withdraw money from them. So how exactly are you supporting yourselves currently at 40 years old and for the next 20 years? How are you using your FIRE number to generate income for everyday expenses as opposed to just growing your savings?
@mikemoore75272 жыл бұрын
They live off the dividends that are earned. I’m sure the amount of money they actually have invested is ridiculous plus KZbin money and whatever else they have that provides an income.

I’ve watched a lot of your Portugal and investment videos but I’m a bit confused. We are looking into moving overseas, and have been told by Schwab that we CANNOT invest in municipal funds, ETFs, bonds only individual stocks. Vanguard and Fidelity have been known to close accounts. So how are you all doing this? I’d also love to see videos on taxes. Since you own more than one property in Portugal now, have an active KZbin channel and other sources of web income, what tax challenges have you faced? These issues are a big source of confusion for my husband and me. We are at FIRE (just about) but need to be sure we can access our money and also not get hit too hard in taxes with other revenue streams. Thanks!

@Naeema3113 жыл бұрын
I live overseas and opened up a vanguard account while living outside the US that I contain to maintain. I do have a US mailing address and citizenship. Perhaps they think you’re relinquishing American citizenship? I do not believe what you were told you is true (for Vanguard at least).
@sobellabg8043 жыл бұрын
@@Naeema311 No we are not relinquishing our citizenship and we were quite clear in stating our intentions to Schwab, Vanguard and Fidelity. We were told by Schwab, Fidelity and Vanguard that while we can have those existing accounts, we could NOT invest in mutual funds, ETFs only stocks. You could only reinvest dividends and buy individual stocks. But you need to have a US based address, not for instance a PO Box. Schwab is the same but they seem to be a bit more forgiving as they have international offices so accessing funds overseas or having a foreign address appears to be less of an issue. However, the investment restrictions are the same for all the brokerages. It has to do with the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance act I believe.

What if you don't have $400k to invest with? Do you have a minimum amount to suggest investing with? I have some savings but really not much. I don't want to invest all of it because it's essentially my emergency fund being built up to 3-6mo of income savings.

In one of your Side hustle videos sometime back. We talked about painting numbers on peoples curbside. That’s some thing I want to look into. Would you mind offering me some advice? Do I have to get a license or something to do that? I did get a part-time job in retail. I teach full-time. But I’d like to also look into doing the painting numbers on the curbs. Hopefully I won’t mess up the numbers! That would be a nightmare because then I don’t know how I would remove the paint if it drops…. My thought is to buy some wood or maybe get it in the Lowe’s recycle area. Practice painting on there. Did you spray paint or did you use a brush paint? Anyway thanks for all you do! I recently found your channel. I love that you’re very clear and concise! I followed one big happy life for years… I just find their information is a little too vague. Great questions! Look up the ordinances in your city regarding businesses and business permits. If one is required, it's likely as simple as filling out an online form. @OurRichJourney3 жыл бұрын
If you are taking from a portfolio that is based on US currency, you should be focused on how many dollars you will need to pull from that. So, if you plan on moving to the EU and you have to ultimately pay for your expenses in Euros, you will need to identify those expenses in Euros and then do a conversion to know how many dollars you will ultimately have to pull from your portfolio.

My issue with “FIRE” is you guys had each other. What about is single moms and dads who don’t have that other income from our significant other? Our work income goes mostly to supporting ourselves and our kids.

Hello, awesome video as always. I would like to know your thoughts on the Social security system since last week it was in the news again with very discouraging statements for the already retired and for the future ones. Thank you, hope to hear from you on this topic.

I think that would make a good video Pavel! We actually didn't factor in social security for probably some of the reasons you're already thinking about. Perhaps a future video . . . !

@@OurRichJourney Thank you so much. You guys really inspired my wife and me to start investing. I really enjoyed the video you made with the poem. We are planning within the next few years to visit Portugal.

From the UK myself you have some great options (real estate of course) for the stock market through SIPPS and vangaurd funds :)

Another great video, simple and effective. The long term time horizon is missed by many and they do not stay the course so the stock market does not work for them. Real estate is great! and not to double dip but REITS are good too! perhaps a cheaper way for many on low income to invest in real estate :) but i am a fan of bricks and water.

Hi beautiful couple, I always like to see your videos but what about the real value of the Dollar and the USA's debt...have you an idea of the global, international economy and the actual danger of the stock exchange... What about the parallel with the 1929 situation that leads the world to the 2nd world war ? Isn't to dangerous to put money in stock exchange as all the banks and consequently the entire economy are in really dangerous situation and as our money is in real dangerous situation ? Thank you for your answer. Take care my friends🌹

How can you do this as a single parent?

What would you suggest? I am almost 32 years old. Started investing in vanguard ETFs last year in Canada (we don’t have access to all the same ones as the American Vanguard). We have been able to invest around $200,000US already since then and saw big gains since last year due to the pandemic. I also had my army pension locked in for life and receive around $5,000CAD per month. We are currently down in Panama. In December we will be coming over to Portugal to visit some friends of ours. We are trying to find a tax friendly place to live with a lower cost of living than in Canada. Right now we are able to save around 40-50% of my income. My wife is currently not working as we just had our first daughter last year. We are also trying to generate another stream of income online. Would you be able to offer any suggestions for us or are we on the right track? We have been following your channel since last year and I wish I would’ve started investing sooner in life, but I don’t have any regrets.

@@OurRichJourney what is the cost of living like? We are going to get an idea slightly when we visit friends, but we won’t be having to pay rents because we will be staying with them for the short time we are there.
