This is my 3 Body Problem Netflix Series Review, as today we talk about this insane (in a good way) new Sci-Fi series from Netflix. Set against the backdrop of China's Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt, or to fight against the invasion. The result is a science fiction masterpiece of enormous scope and vision.

I have no big hopes for season 2. For non die hard SciFi fans this was just a boring and uneventful series. And the masses are what counts. Game of Thrones was much more action and interesting characters, especially after they pushed money into the production. See the high divide on IMDB ratings and i say it's 50:50 right now if they cancel the show. Last time i have seen that was from the 1899 show (and that got a huge discount for netflix from the german tax payer).

I for one think they did a really excellent job adapting the trilogy into a more up to date TV show, so far. The key is they aren't adapting a book as much as the complete trilogy as a whole, so events from all books are being weaved together. It makes for a really good dynamic IMO. Book purists probably will be frustrated that a few key scenes have been omitted and in part to have character drama that is absent from the written form but all of it felt good to me. I'm impressed by the budget they were able to put into realizing all of the different locations, scenes, and didn't skimp. Also the sharpness of how they were able to distill down to the essentials on some plots that really drag on in the books. We've already got Staircase and Wallfacers and Stars our Destination and that's stuff I was concerned we'd be waiting years to see. I like that in this case as well, our Wallfacer isn't literally some random person who happened to work in science, but someone who had a direct connection to Ye Winjie. I can see people buying off on that far more readily. There are people who haven't read the books who are like "not sure why these parts are relevant" or think that some sections drag. But having read the series, I felt about every moment was awesome and knowing where it's going I was invested the whole time. So I trust.

@@kevoreilly6557 I think in terms of book purists it's those who fine any and all changes for any reason to be heretical. Every change is another chance for them to hate on it. For them, the Tencent version would be a good if not barely acceptable take on the story. I'm a big Expanse fan and generally think the show was a very good adaptation of the books that streamlined and course corrected some key things but also had some mis-steps often due to budget and external production factors more than creative vision. @@skeptathoughtno it doesn't, it respects and does justice to the books, I was very pessimistic after ep1, but once I realized that the show actually completely removed Wang Mio instead of gender-swapped him (like some chinese bots try to convince you) and replaced him with book 2 and 3 characters and that they rearranged certain sequences of events, I started enjoying it. Some book readers keep saying "tencent show tencent show" but really it sucks balls. 30 episodes for a novel that's 350 pages is absurd. The show itself isn't up to modern day standards, it's full of censorship propaganda, it looks cheap as hell and the acting apart from like 2 exceptions is terrible. The netflix adaptation isn't perfect, but it's a good show, I don't love it myself, but I think it's more important what non readers think, because it depends on them whether we get season 2 (which if it happens will be at least 10 times better)

@@user-ly2ll5od1r "30 episodes for a novel that's 350 pages is absurd" Calling Tencent's 30-episode TV adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" absurd just because the novel is around 350 pages is a bit of a shallow take. First off, the depth and complexity of Liu Cixin's masterpiece can't just be crammed into a few hours of screen time. Every single detail, from the intricate Trisolaran world to the complex characters and their philosophical dilemmas, demands meticulous attention. We're talking about a story that leaps across centuries, unfolds layers of scientific theories, and dives deep into human nature and civilization. Plus, let's not forget the visual storytelling potential here. Bringing the sophisticated science and the alien world of Trisolaris to life ain't something you rush in a couple of episodes. This isn't just about making a novel fit into a TV format; it's about exploring its universe to the fullest. "Respects and does justice to the books?" Praising Netflix's take on "The Three-Body Problem" as faithful to the books? That's a stretch. What they've done is pretty much grab the coolest sci-fi bits from the story and toss them at us without bothering to connect the dots. It's like they skimmed the book for its flashy ideas but skipped all the brainwork that ties everything together. And don't get me started on how they've butchered the characters, especially Ye Wenjie. In the books, she's this complex figure who, despite her controversial moves, genuinely wants to see humanity level up. But Netflix? They turned her into this one-dimensional, bitter mess who apparently has nothing better to do than hate on everything and everyone. Completely misses the mark of who she is and why she does what she does. The Netflix version is a shallow dive that ditches the real meat of the story and the depth of its characters for some cheap thrills. It's a letdown for anyone who expected the show to capture the essence of what makes "The Three-Body Problem" such a mind-bender. "it's full of censorship propaganda" So, you're throwing shade at the Tencent adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" for supposed censorship and propaganda, huh? Sure, they dialed down on the Cultural Revolution bit, but to claim that this somehow tanks the whole sci-fi experience? That's a stretch. Unless your main kick from watching the series is seeing China painted in a bad light, I don't see how you can make such a fuss about it. And let's not pretend Netflix's version is some kind of untainted, holy grail of adaptation purity. Netflix did a number on the story too, keeping all the negative portrayals of Chinese characters intact while conveniently swapping out almost every non-negative Chinese character for foreigners. They clung to the Cultural Revolution content like it was gold and then proceeded to erase China from the rest of the narrative. So, they take a brilliant piece of Chinese culture and twist it to throw shade at China while acting like they're the faithful ones? Come on, if we're talking about pushing agendas and selective storytelling, it looks like Netflix isn't exactly playing the clean game you think they are. “The show itself isn't up to modern day standards” What exactly does that mean? Are we talking about visuals, special effects, or storyline? Tencent pulled off a 30-episode series on a budget of just $10 million, while Netflix threw a whopping $160 million at just 8 episodes. And for what? Beyond slightly better visuals, it's hard to see where all that cash went. Honestly, Netflix's attempt at Sky Blinking effects is more laughable than impressive, and their CG for the nanofilament slicing up a cruise ship? It can't even hold a candle to the effort and care Tencent put into their version. When you're quick to judge Tencent's adaptation for not meeting these so-called "modern day standards," maybe take a step back and consider what you're comparing.

The answer for why Saul is so important rely in the joke that Vera’s mom told him at the graveyard. He said “we wouldn’t survived without them” “Jokes are very personal only two people understand” and lastly “ I hope my joke don’t cause you any trouble” after that Saul was almost killed twice and was recruited cause the agency understood that he must be valuable. Is kind of disappointed that Saul being “the smartest one” can’t figure out at least that the Dr. was trying to tell him something. Also before that scene she took two books, Game Theory and Fermi Paradox, the fist one is about “Game theory studies interactive decision-making, where the outcome for each participant or "player" depends on the actions of all” the second one. Fermi paradox “Contradiction between the seemingly high likelihood for the emergence of extraterrestrial intelligence and the lack of evidence for its existence. The paradox has two broad forms: (1) Why has Earth not already been visited? and (2) Why is there no evidence for extraterrestrial intelligence at all?” So obviously the Dr. was keeping secrets, the Game theory I believe is related to the games scientist were playing with the golden helmet, even when Tatiana got one the note said “if one of us survived, we all survive” so the decisions taken into the helmet game obviously matter and how the aliens will proceed when it comes to decide the faith of the human race. Or at least that’s what I can make of it. I haven’t read the books and my conclusions are solemnly based on the Netflix series obviously. Also I notice that apparently the Santi valued humans right until Evans read Little Red Riding Hood to “Lord” realizing that humans can lie and deceive, something inconceivable for them. That’s when “Lord” came to the realization that humans are nothing but bugs, in Evans own words “Annoying, inconsequential, easy to eliminate”. But is contradictory since from the beginning they were trying to eliminate all scientists in an attempt to stop humans from developing at the same level as them.

I do not understand how the San Ti basically have the ability to be omnipotent but had to find out that humans lie through a red riding book? Our entire society is built on lies that we all believe. Money, nations, laws, policies - our reality is dictated by the fictional world we've created to the point where a lie becomes the truth if enough humans decide to believe it. I don't understand how an incredibly intelligent and technologically advanced alien species would not understand that within a day of their sophon reaching earth. Also the scene where they cut the boat through their nanofibers also doesn't make any sense. Why did they do that again? They only wanted the hard drive that was on the boat. So instead of bombing the boat, or sending in a stealth team to find the device, they decided to cut the entire boat up, brutally killing everyone on board, and destroying the ship ANYWAY only to be lucky that Evans was holding the drive when he died. That's ludicrous! How does that make any sense?

They didn’t explain the science in as much detail as they should have. I think they thought audiences wouldn’t be able to follow it so they over corrected. I also think that they should have given a lot more runtime to a few of the story beats. There should have been a lot more time dedicated to dealing with the judgment day. Lastly the eye in the sky looked ridiculous.

After watching the 1st season I wonder if it was a good idea to send a message to the stars many years ago 🙂. We didn´t use the sun as amplifier ( does this work?) but the impacts of comet Shoemaker-Levi as a "Gong" to herald our signal. This happened exactly 30 years ago, in July 1994. Or assumptions: If someone has the abilities to detect this energetic outbreak, they might observe and wonder about the signal we sent exactly 60 seconds after each of the 21 impacts on Jupiter.

EXACTLY! I feel like the show attempts to make dumb people look like smart people and fails miserably. It was a lil boring. What I don't understand is that these aliens are extremely intelligent with the ability to be omnipotent and they were surprised that humans lie from a red riding hood story? Also, why would they do "you are bugs" scene at all? Why would you give this rotten species an opportunity to put their differences aside and work together against a common enemy, 400 years before you actually see them? They could v easily have been undercover for the next 399 years without warning the entire species and continue destroying humanity's understanding of physics without them knowing wtf is happening. I just didn't like how the characters made decisions.

I'm shocked people really think they are going to get a 1:1 adaption of a book series with as much scale and depth as the Remembrance of Earth's Past. Reading and viewing are much different mediums, which is why I thought Tencent's version was painfully slow and boring. It took 30 episodes for them to adapt season 1, which is easily the most simplistic of the trilogy as it reads more as mystery than a Scifi epic. To cover all the battles, concepts (like the shooter and farmer) timeline shifts, metaphors (fantasy stories) would be an endless endeavor. I think some parts of season 1 felt a bit rushed and there were moments that I wish elicited the same reaction as reading through it. I really enjoyed how they introduced most, if not all, of the characters of the 2nd and 3rd books this season. It was really cool realizing who Luo Gi, Ding Yi, Yu Tianming, Cheng Xi were this season. Also I think there are ton of people who only read the first book that think Wang got split into 5 characters lol.

In order for any fictional story to be engaging, it has to have a constant fast flow, leaving no time for the viewer to grasp all the Ed Wood type illogic they may be enjoying. Episode 7 is where the flow slowed down and I realized how goofy this whole enterprise is. Though based on a novel, I can't help but wonder if some studio execs came together and dreamt up this premise of 'Friends' meets 'War of the Worlds': some cool 20 something Millennials must come out of Starbucks to save the human race while having romance and bromance drama.

As someone who's read the source material, Netflix 3 Body Solution is a watchable show, where it's adapted plot mostly holds itself up under it's own ambitions. One notable departure from the books is that the show sets all simultaneous-era events into one season, which avoids convolution and time-hopping. It's likely a good call to have streamlined events and avoid potential confusion in subsequent seasons (assuming they get that far). However, this choice of compactness and time economization is where some of the fidelity issues occur. Wang (book one's protagonist), doesn't even exist, but his story and events are broken up into several new characters. Other characters receive the same treatment, but with too much padding to keep them relevant to the drama of 8 episodes: this is evident with Saul, 'Auggie,' and Will especially, with Will's tragic story just going on and on. Additionally, "Da Shi," one of the most compelling characters in the trilogy, was questionably toned down. You get the sense that the main cast are a bit disjointed from the plot, sort of like nobody really knows where the crazy narrative is heading. I imagine Benioff, Weiss, and Woo (producers/writers) giving themselves a pat on the back for their condensed Netflix version of the trilogy, and while it does 'work', it's at the expense of fidelity, or simply engaging and compelling characters. All-in-all, whether or not you've read the books, 3 Body Solution is about what you'd expect from a Western adaptation of a non-western bestseller; a Hollywoodized version of the source material, with a noticeable 'producer-produced' flavor to the entire project, and not necessarily any new surprises or any creative insights beyond that.
@aaron4820
@aaron4820 3 ай бұрын
I wouldn't lump in the whole of "Hollywood" with this, the producers/writers d&d are notoriously terrible, they misheard "show, don't tell" a long time ago and has dedicated a lot of time ruining source materials and writing cringe dialogues. I blame netflix for putting them in charge.

The book isn’t good. People love to confuse trying to be smart with being profound and therefore good. The show is full of woke tropes, enough bad acting that it ruins the few good actors, and cheap CGI that’s distracting and sometimes causes you to laugh when the scene is supposed to be serious. It’s just bad. But Netflix has nothing, so we watched it. Sorry I did. I rarely watch Netflix anymore and only keep it because all the people I share it with would get their own accounts if I cancelled. Netflix would make more money if I canceled. Literally the only reason I haven’t.

Starting in the late 80s, I started occasionally wondering about something. I started occasionally wondering if the designer is maybe hiding us, just as an extra precaution. Our planet might be an intentional needle in an endless haystack. Also, the cloud cover could be to keep us partly hidden from above. Steel automobiles could be used the same way, intentionally, by the designer. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have wondered about all of that. I once asked the designer to increase the speed of light so I could see a new blinking star. Then I asked ET's if they could hear me, and I requested they do the same, if they could hear me. I was asking both.... Then I wondered if I might see a spotlight shine across the hillside, or in the street, from above. That's all I wondered, nothing else at all. So, when I suddenly, completely unexpectedly, saw a round light shine across the top of the clouds, I talked about it aaaaall the time for years after that. It was completely unexpected, and so sudden. The possibility of it shining across the clouds at all, never crossed my mind. Just the ground....

Tense, thrilling, emotional and cerebral. Great character development. Easily the best show Ive seen in a while. Alexander Woo, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have been uber-successful in creating a visual and dramatic masterpiece by adapting a well-recognized excellent science fiction novel. You feel the visceral, ethical and intellectual struggle with the decisions and challenges these characters all have to make. The series of tragedies that leads Ye Wenjie to sell-out humanity is in particular numbingly sad-- because the viewer is made to empathize with her. "3 Body Problem" just rises above the useless rot of bad shows that have a lazy audience appeal ("The Gentleman" or anything with a "Star Wars" insignia on it) .

Aunque me molestó un poco que no haya un equipo internacional en esto, todavía espero que eso suceda desde la temporada 2, y que sumen personajes nuevos. Its nothing like DARK. I thought its a bit overhyped tbh. Character development is awful. Also acting was below par aswell. Unique concept but could've been so much better.

Game of Thrones is my favorite series of all time. I always defend D&D because people always seem to forget they also made the brilliant first few seasons. I was extremely hyped and you give me hope it will deliver Thank you 🙏

Saul's plot development is interesting. Hes actually a different character in the second book. Hint: there is a very REAL reason he is chosen in the end. And the answer may horrify you.......

Wondering how they gonna put Jing(ChengXin) aside and let Durand(Luo Ji) take all the part2 content (as he should) after they bringing Jing at the very beginning.

Series 1 only seems slow if you haven't read the books. If you've read the books (or in my case I've almost finished book 2 'Dark Forest'), then it's awesome because you know more of what's going on. So if you haven't seen it yet, read the first book '3 Body Problem', then watch the series. The series doesn't exactly follow the books, there are differences, but it's still great.

I thought it was rubbish. It's probably good enough for Americans.

The book & show idea is just so dump 🤦‍♀️ Why the aliens even need planets when they have the tech to live in space traveling for 400 yrs? 🤷‍♀️

One key difference thats kind of important between the show/books. The book thoroughly explained people's thoughts and events happening. The show kinda blew past it for a wow factor. I could barely read the first book because it goes DEEP into science/philosophy. But it makes other events hit way harder becuase you understand things

Trust me, the pacing is so fast that they have skipped whole lots of details and many characters. So that the 1st book can be compressed into 5 episodes.

I’m gonna watch. But the book is literally about a 400 year long alien invasion but it seems like from your review they changed that and it’s actually NOT about an alien invasion? If that’s true then it’s absurd. But I guess I’ll watch and find out.

It is so piss boringly bad and its literally easier to stare at a blank tv or just go read the fucking book. The actors make me want to be invaded by terrifying aliens.

I am enraptured by the three books the series is based on. They are quite dense so they are perfect if you are a thinker. I’m a sci fi aficionado but I don’t have the most scientific background or knowledge and I have been able to grasp many of the concepts but I do believe in order to enjoy the books you have to be a thinker. I see that the audience in China were making complains about the shows very Western turn which I think is unwarranted when there is already a Chinese version of the show on Prime. It’s clear this version is directed at Western audiences. I am still slagging through the Chinese version on Prime because it is subtitled. I enjoy that version a lot. Cause I think it has the essence of the book culturally. However, the. Netflix version is much more ent3twining and emotionally impactful to my Western bent mind, I can’t wait for season 2 of the Netflix show. I think it was extremely well done considering the source material.
