I focus on upbeat and triplet syncopation based fills, and with that in mind, listen to reggae drummers like Carlton Barrett. He is my favorite reggae drummer. I would also listen closely to Stewart Copeland and Gil Sharone. ... I also take ideas from dub music, but you have to keep in mind the use of delay effects and how that's used to generate rhythms.
