Great lesson on brushes. Thank you for sharing.

Cute. I use also the flex stroke with alternating hands, which creates a roll sound.

Great video! The flex stroke (I thought it was my invention :-) is my favourite; I fix some rubber-foam (like they use for bycicle handles/steering) around the end of the brush handle. (about 5 cm) . That foam protects the brush shaft and gives a nice rebound for this brush technique. (excuse my English)

It would be good to know exactly what brushes are being used. I’m sitting at my snare as I watch this - I’ve tried the ‘flex stroke’ and it just doesn’t work with the brushes I have (too stiff?). Cool vid though 😎

The 3 brush models in this video are the Vic Firth Heritage Brushes, the Vic Firth Split Brushes and the Vic Firth ReMix Brushes. Just as Florian said, a flexible brush works best for the flex stroke, but it also might take a few minutes until you develop a feeling for how the wires react to this special playing technique.

Welcome man. Really like the short to the point. There isn't enough stuff on brushes either.

Though, native speakers usually don't mind such little details, therefore you could absolutely still get by. My favourite technique in this video is the double stroke, because i didn't think that was possible before with brushes :)

So, the flex stroke is basically a gravity without the "up" motion from the rim?

Totally 💯 right!
