As a 60 year old life long amateur drummer I can really appreciate all that Ringo brings to his craft. In my early teens when I started learning drums and rudiments and listening to a lot of Rush and other 70’s bands with big drum sets I treated drumming a bit like a competitive athletic event. Swifter, higher, stronger, faster louder! I figured Ringo’s drumming was for beginners - lol! Oh the ignorance of youth! But I was enthusiastic and I still am. I’ve never grown bored of playing the drums. Great video!

Great drumming, really, but it is truly amazing the sound they got in the 80s with literally nothing compared to the technology this guy uses to replicate the perfect sound

This video is practically useless if you 1: don’t cut ports in your kick 2: don’t mic through port holes And 3: don’t mic drums. If I’m going to be honest. No hate, but I wish you would do room mics and non port miking.

15 Ply brings a very masculine sound to the drum. I would not have used 4mm die cast hoops with this thick a shell. The minute you hit a rim click you hear zero- resonance from the drum. That's too deep a sound and makes the drum sound choked. Look, I love die cast hoops but they work best on 5, 6 or 7 ply drums whose shells are a bit more open or feminine in sound. A great drum, but cut the ply's down or change to flange hoops.

I absolutely love this! The only video I’ve seen that addresses the bass drum pattern too- well done - this is 1000% better than the one Stevie Wonder’s own drummer did - where he didn’t even play the beat on the record despite saying that he was going to teach us the groove - you win the internet

Quite good and accurate sound from those small toms, I assume they are 12", 14" and 16". For the Black Album Metallica sound, you really need large toms though. I'm pretty sure Lars used something like 14", 15", 16" and 18" toms for the Enter Sandman intro. It really makes a difference! Also the cymbals sound weak here, so propably they are too small and thin for this purpose.

fun fact, Ringo Starr is left-handed, but he plays a drum kit set up for a right-handed person, since he'd never been told differently by anybody when he was young. As a result, while he's not a particularly flashy drummer, his music contains various flourishes and fills that baffle people who have their drum kit set up "correctly".

thinner head = lower bottom end. Thicker head = higher note.Same with muffling. More muffling = higher note. Less muffling = lower note. For me - less muffling, thinner heads. I want that deep end.
