Hi All Second puzzle, what about 1...h2! instead of 1...KxRg1?

Hello Patin, thank you for the answer, what stockifish suggest is a crazy line, after h2, Bg7 and the computer would say this is a mate in 37 moves.

My Stockfish found the answer for the first puzzle at depth 12 after less than 1 second. Second puzzle. Depth 34, 8 seconds but also shows much longer and harder defense: 1. Ba6 h2 2. Bf8 hxg1=Q 3. Bc5+ Kf3 4. Bxg1 & tablebase checkmate at move 28. Third puzzle. Depth 34, 85 seconds (but I found the winning move quicker :P).

Talking about the limitations of Stockfish: I set up an endgame with only the two kings and 10(!) white bishops on dark squares. Even though White is up 30 points in material, there is no feasible plan for a checkmate. Stockfish 17, however, says it's +13...

@@fool4287 More fun facts: I added a knight, and Stockfish said it's +16 but did not find a mate. With a knight and only one bishop (instead of 10), it would checkmate in 33 moves...

I’ve seen someone explaining this and saying something like “chess engine always give those positions +16 when the position is clearly a draw, because the computer can see draws by repetitions or 50 moves cuz he would always avoid them” or something in the line of that.

@@ChessCrafters-lk4dv I'm afraid this is not the point. There's no way to avoid the draw, as all these bishops are on the same square, so there is no checkmate possible. Actually, what confuses me even more is that the engine doesn't find a checkmate even when I add a knight(!)...
