This video is already awesome and it prompted me to ask a question: Do you know if you have a good video, or could recommend or maybe even make one, giving the bare essentials of heavy metal music? Now I know that it's impossible to truly learn everything in one video, but almost like a set of exercises and theory concepts that, once practiced up to full speed, bring you to the level where you can start messing around with practicing songs and branching out without worrying that you haven't mastered the essentials yet. I always feel like there's such a broad definition of what you should learn to start "making" metal, not to mention the COUNTLESS videos making the definition even larger, and I just want to have a comprehensive, not to crazy way to at least say "okay, I can start going from here and writing simple riffs or learning other 'extra' concepts" without worrying I'm wasting time. Sorry if that's not a good explanation! I'm just curious if you would have any recommendations. I plan to do a lot more longer courses later but now I'd like to try getting the basics up and running. I'd just like to be able to hit that point where I can start writing riffs and going through practice routines without that lingering feeling that I'm missing something major!

Great video Jason. Love the advice to just play something. The other day I put on a backing track that was faster than what I'm comfortable playing at. I kept up as best I could, ignoring if I played crap for a moment. Ended up playing some new stuff and boosting my overall speed. Keep it Metal 🤘🤘

I actually forgot the Telecaster existed LOL. Jason, I'm begging you, get one of the more metal Teles out there. (I'm kidding lol, enjoy your guitar :D ). Also, inverted power chords are blessed. You can pretend to have a 7-string and/or enjoy a fresh tonality. I LOVE inverted power chords, they sound so good with good pickups/amp. Sometimes they sound TERRIBLE on cheap pickups and/or amp. The varying palm-muting thing, for sure. Especially if repeating a riff, you can change it up by varying the palm-muting to keep it fresh :D LOL yes! If someone asks if you can play Master of Puppets, everyone knows exactly which part.

People sleep on Teles for metal and heavy stuff. Goes to show how little pickups really matter. Type of mic, placement, IR's, cabs used are the ticket! Wish I knew this a long time ago haha
@Emily_M81
@Emily_M81 2 ай бұрын
I would change literally ALL of those things before changing pickups LOL. That said, I think the tele, at least, is a little special with its pickup config.
@jasonstallworth

Yeah the speakers/cabs/IRs make all the difference! Though I will say this Tele has its own distinct sound

Is your blackstar going into your audio monitors? I need to get some monitors for my desktop computer, but my problem is that I have the Pod Go and my focusrite for my mic. I don't know how I would plug both into my monitors at the same time.
@jasonstallworth

I run everything through my interface. That makes it easier since that's connected to your computer and monitors.

Hi Jason just wondering how do you get really fast at Downpicking as well as the stamina for it without your hand aching
@jasonstallworth
@jasonstallworth 2 ай бұрын
I believe it's just being consistent and as far as pain, take a look at your nutrition as inflammation may have more to do with an aching hand that guitar. I know it's kind of off topic but I may do a video on what I eat. That said, I do have a recent down picking video here with exercises: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXnTimStlNt-nc0

I just bought a new single humbucker Squier Tele, to add to my two single coil Tele. I think people pigeon-hole the Tele in the blues and C/W genres, so your choice of axe caught my eye. Teles give metal players a solid instrument….
