I love the excerpts giving examples of what you're talking about, this video feels like a private lesson. Keep up the great content!

I think flams and drags are tempting to accent because the grace note needs to be lower than the bigger stroke. Those that cant control the grace note as well need to lift the other hand higher to make sure the sticks hit at seperate times.
@robknopperstudio7 жыл бұрын
oh yeah - that's a good point, i'm sure that's the cause among other things.

I would love if you made a video and talked about your experience at The Juilliard School.

just about what it was like to go there? or other things like my practice routine, deciding what to play, my lessons, etc?

rob knopper What your average day looked like, as far as practicing and studying with professionals, the things you would work on with them. Maybe also a little bit of insight on what it was like to attend the school. That would be awesome.

yes, i would love to! thanks for the ideas.

I like this video outlining the common mistakes particularly about focusing on the musical phrase where the technique, grace notes, rhythms, nuances, dynamics fit into the phrase to execute the musical idea. Also I like that the sound 30 feet away should be considered not only for auditions but concerts as well and self recording. I find accenting the second note of a rhythm often helps to prepare one in playing the whole rhythm correctly so that we are aware exactly where all of the notes must fit. e.g. a 4 16th note pattern that rushes can be remedied by practicing accents on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th 16th and then going back and practicing playing 4 equal spaced 16th notes so no rushing takes place. thanks Rob once again for your contribution Paul Mouradian

Love your stuff Rob! I’ve learned so much from these audition hacker videos. Here’s my video suggestion, how do you do a score study? Say like you get a audition packet and you have excerpts to prepare, when you listen to the excerpts what do you listen for?? Idk how much you can do with that, but I’d like to see your process because obviously it’s working. Thanks again for the great videos!

Didn't he already make a video about that? I'm almost positive he did.

Jon Hillery i remember the one where he talked about learning excerpts, but never went in depth about how to study the music.

that is a good idea! i would love to dive into this. and yeah, i do have a video on how to research excerpts. (link below) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKqTd4R3btKCqc0

I did actually have a college audition where the professor was right next to me as he was reading the music.

I am a percussionist going into my junior year of high school. When do you suggest I start to prepare prices for collage auditions?
@robknopperstudio6 жыл бұрын
this year you should start doing your college search where you take tours of the schools you're interested in, meet the teachers, take lessons with them, and talk to alumni. but it’s not until next summer when you should choose your list and start right away in august or september really going hard on your list.

How does the black swamp ti compare to your Phils? How useful is the multisonic mechanism in ensemble settings? Looking into a small drum to compliment my 6.5 maple and my 5 brass phils. I usually hate how bright the black swamps are, but I'm not hearing that here.
@robknopperstudio6 жыл бұрын
honestly, this is not my drum and and i can’t compare it accurately because i didn't spend time working on it. i don't think all the original snares were on it, so it's tough to say. however, it was a good fill in because my colleague, steven, was using my drum in the pit for the opera during the recording for this video.
@marhb996 жыл бұрын
My friend owns one that I've played on, and we both agree that the Multisonic works well in a very general setting, but with the snare drums you have, I personally think that it might be better to go with a small piccolo snare, maybe a Grover Keejee or Will James signature. I've had great experiences with both Black Swamp and Grover, but I find that the two snares above both have qualities that some might want in a small drum.

I'd love to know too. How do they feel?
@robknopperstudio6 жыл бұрын
they feel surprisingly good. i wish the bead was flatter, but they’re really useful. i was trying to find something that would take the place of the chris lamb sticks while they weren't being made. innovative recently promised me that they’re back in production. i know $70 is a lot for a pair of sticks, so make sure you can try them out before you buy them.
