All good points Morgan. I always try to book cabins near the center of the ship but away from noisy areas. ie. Making sure the decks directly above and below have cabins not common areas. 2 additional point on "hump" balconies. If you are on the leading edge of the hump, you have a wider angle of view ahead, If you are on the trailing curve of the hump, you get more wind protection.

No ad! I look at two things: # people the cabin sleeps. If it holds four, on some ships you have pull-down bunks on both walls and that cuts into your space. I also try to avoid cabins w adjoining rooms. On some ships sound carries easier when there is a door inside your cabin.

Another reason for the bends in the hallways is that they act as a sound barrier. It is much quieter around the bend from a public gathering place.

We enjoyed one of those larger diagonal forward facing balconies on the Epic for a Med cruise. Was wonderful. Coffee every morning, wine every night. Plus we made sure we were on the land side so we could see the ship pulling into port every morning. Excellent room (aside from your fav bathroom 😂). Also when we book we try to get a room between floors of just rooms. So quiet. We are old. Need our sleep. Lol.

Hubby uses a wheelchair and having a cabin right beside the elevators is the bomb. Negotiating a wheelchair down the long hallways trying to avoid the cleaning carts and people’s room service trays sucks big cookies.

Morgan - please cruise on Oceania! We tried most of the others but have settle with Oceania (10 cruises). Love the ships, people and especially the food your observations would be appreciated. All of their smaller 650 pax ships are being super modernized so pick one that has had it done. You mentioned NCL’S Pride of America. We took it and enjoyed visiting the four main Hawaiian Islands without having to pack, plane and unpack. A very different cruise experience. You eat in the Elvis Dining Room. The wait staff are mostly young Americans who you will find not yet well trained but as friendly as puppy dogs!

Im a time traveler of sorts, its still Saturday night here but I can watch already 😁 Ive only ever been on one cruise, but I hope to get to do another at some point... its amazing the things you somehow run out of time to do, there were parts of the ship that i never got to see, between excursions and shows and all the other plans somehow we ran out of time! We were on one of the older straight hallway ships but I loved it! I was so amazed, at home I sleep with white noise, and i didnt think of that aspect until the first night as the AC fan wasnt loud at all (normally my go to). just for kicks I went and asked to see if they had a fan... they did!! So I got to be cooler and sleep well, it was great! Next time I might bring my own to be safe though. My backup plan was sticking the chair to keep the balcony door open to let the ocean noise sooth me, but i didnt need to! 😁 Also, first comment!! This is my first first comment 😂❤

pawprints1986 ...congrats on your first of many more cruises...each cruise line does something perfectly...saving a dollar here and there will add up...the more shutes and ladders on the top deck...usually makes for a younger travelers...if you live near a port a last minute cruise is way cheaper too...traveling rounds out any corners in your life too...

PawPrints , On every ship i have been on . If you prop open your balcony door there is a magnetic contact switch which cuts off the Air conditioner.( Not that i have done this.) But ,i hear that if you find the contact in the door frame and place a refrigerator magnet on it. It doesn't sense the door being open.
@fumiheadley4874

Yeah, I was tempted to keep my balcony door open sometimes, but then I read in the newsletter that we shouldn't do that because 1) it wastes energy (but if you didn't have your AC on, doesn't matter), and 2) depending on where you are, it can let in insects which can bring disease, etc. So I didn't leave the door open. However, I could always faintly hear the waves thru the door and feel the calming motion of the sea which helped me sleep like a drunken baby.

On the Carnival Imagination, I accidentally booked us into a room about 15 feet from the guest laundry area. I was aiming for a porthole room (which I loved!) and had no idea the laundry was so close. Apparently, almost no one else did, either! Our end of the ship remained pretty quiet and when I discovered the laundry area, I was very happy. I was in the middle of a three-week holiday and a laundry room that close was fantastic!

Tom Hanks in the Mr. Rogers movie. My travel agent knows right where to put me. Last cruise I was about midway and that was great because if I wanted to go aft elevators, I would go to the right or if I wanted forward, I went to the right. Made it easier for me to keep from getting lost. Took me a couple days to figure that out, but being alone on my cruises, it takes a little bit to figure it all out. 😁

We found you before our first cruise (two years ago) and used all your advice on which cabin to book then and on our second cruise this summer . We had rooms on “the hump” which, on the matinee of the seas RC it meant we actually had a LARGER room ! Only by about a foot but it was nice and on the Oasis of the seas we did the same and it meant a larger balcony . To add to yr advice I’d say booking in the middle of the ship means you feel the seas motion less (somehow) . We were on deck 10 of the Oasis of the seas and one night we had really high winds (not personally I might add 😂) and boy did the ship sway from side to side!!! Luckily we had had a night of drinks and dancing in the centre of the ship and didn’t feel a thing until we got back to our cabin . Ps I didn’t get an AD

I dunno, we just got off the NCL Bliss and had a midship cabin right near the elevators/stairs. I mean RIGHT at the exit. Not only was it very convenient when you got out of the elevators, but it really wasn't noisy. Once in a while you heard something, but it wasn't lingering. I'd rather have that kind of noise than a noisy, rude neighbor next door or above.

I never thought about the bends in the ship - that was fun to learn! Oddly enough I got an ad for a "zitpatch," which is amusing to me since I had other searches (shampoo, conditioner, water resistant shoes) that I thought would be more likely. My last cruise - on the Bliss - I was in 14244. 2 decks down from the pool deck, about even with the forward-most elevator in the aft elevator lobby, but the lobby only opened to the hall at the aft end so there was no direct noise from the lobby. Since the inside rooms on that ship (on that deck anyway) are accessed from a central hall, only the balcony folks were using that hallway so it wasn't horribly noisy. Also, as it was near the aft of the ship and they used forward doors for gangways and tender at ports, I just walked to the aft elevators when returning and avoided the elevator waits. Same went for post-show trips to my room. 14 might be a little high on that ship, I'd almost prefer 12, where I had a Studio cabin the first time, or maybe even one or two lower than that.

Stay away from any cabin above or below the auditorium or directly below the Lido deck. The best Kevin I can think of is towards the front of the ship in the middle closest to the bridge or midship on the Lido deck. You’ll be close enough to the elevators but far enough away that you won’t hear the people walking along the hallways.

We have never had a lot of noise being below the pool deck, but on NCL Star I messed up and booked up below the Garden Café. It was horrible - we were awaken almost every morning around 2 or 3 am with scraping of moving things or dropping things or the best was the hammering of whatever a couple mornings. Lesson learned I will hereafter avoid being anywhere near the Buffet!

Got an ad for the new grudge movie remake right when you said we would. As for rooms I would avoid, I accidentally got a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn (Boston to Bermuda) once, thought I was getting a picture window. You should have seen the looks on our faces when we walked in the room on deck 4 and saw this tiny circular window that we paid extra for instead of just taking an inside room. Live and learn, it was one of the first cruises I booked on my own, and I learned how to read deck plans and pay attention to the finer details after that trip!

My wife and I cruised one Anthem last February and we stayed in cabin #6310. This cabin turned out to be next to the library and close to Two 70. However, it was super quiet. It had a great balcony (with a partially obstructed view) (due to the library wall). But late night, we could turn on the tv loud or okay music late at night and not bother anyone. There were also no kids running down at that end of the ship (library allergies) and we were on a cruise full of kids.

Great ideas Morgan. One of the other Cruise channels I watch always say, book a cabin with a cabin deck above and below so you're not under the pool or disco. I would also want to book low on the ship and mid-ship, where it's the most steady and least amount of rocking. Also, I don't get commercials on any KZbin channels because I have KZbin Premium (I pay for Google Music).

We completely agree with all your tips! One more that we experienced, which we didn't realize until we arrived on the ship. Don't reserve the cabin next to the outside larger balcony, going back towards the aft.. That cabin has two disadvantages, less breeze and the view is slightly obstructed from the larger balcony. We were excited to be on the ship, but it seems to get way to warm when the sun was on that side of the ship. So now I always stay away from the ones tucked back in and take one a few down when making a reservation. I hope I made this clear ;-)

I love being near the elevator’s cause my kids are those elephants tramping down the hall.. so if we’re not passing rooms I don’t need to keep reminding them to quiet down. Plus we’re deep sleepers so it doesn’t ever bother us to have the extra foot traffic. My other tip is it’s nice being on the same end of the ship as the main dining venues. Harmony of the seas the buffet and the main dining rooms are at the aft of the ship, the one time we stayed in a forward room it was a looonngg hike to the buffet in the mornings as we were rushing to make our excursions.

Morgan, I always love the advice...been watching you for years! However, I did wonder if there is a way to tell on the ship floor plans which levels have the life boats that would block you balcony views??? My only thoughts are to review others comments and other videos to help determine which balconies to avoid. Someday I will book that midship cabin and one other piece of advice is to avoid cabins under or over bars & night clubs & get mid ship if you are prone to seasickness.

The ad I saw was for Purple (seat cushion?)! I’ve been lucky with the cabins I’ve had - although on one of my first cruises we were in an inside cabin (a huge cabin that even had a bathtub on the Norway) & we had a lounge above us that had entertainment every night & I kept hearing what sounded like people speaking Russian - and we finally got to see the show & it was 2 Russian jugglers/acrobats/comedians- they were speaking English, just with Russian accents! The friends who were in my cabin with me slept through it every night - but I’m a light sleeper so I heard it (and they thought I was crazy until we saw the show)! So, watch out for cabins with lounges above them - they can be noisy late into the night!

On scenic cruises along a coastline, be sure to book your cabin on the side of the ship with the view.

We were on the Conquest a few years ago...deck 10 balcony you'll see a vent just above one cabin on either side of the ship...it's painted red...look careful you'll see it on pictures...when your on the balcony you hear an awful hum coming from that vent...24/7... avoid at all cost.

Cruise ship cabin to avoid: One right below the door they use for boarding the ship. ON our cruise from Quebec City to Fort Lauderdale we had an overnight in Quebec City and people were on and off the ship all night and day. Needless to say this was very loud. Luckily that was the only time on the cruise that they used that door.

1. I saw a State Farm and a Disney Plus advertisement. lol 2. I've seen that on the older two Disney Ships (Magic and Wonder) that deck 2 aft isn't a great place for a cabin because of vibrations from the engines getting into and out of ports. Just fyi. I enjoyed the video!

We had such a bad time RCL legend of the Seas in 2001 we have never been again , yes we got 50% refund on the holiday. But it has put use off going in a cruise again. We are not great consumers if alcohol and we do not party much. But we do not like being hurded around like cattle we mainly fly business or first class to get awsy from the crowds. But i do fancy a baltic cruise to Russia or an Alaskan cruise not sure which cruise lines to look at.

I usually book my own cabin directly through the cruise line website (I have used travel agents too). Among the criteria I use in selecting a cabin are proximity to the pool deck. I avoid the deck below the pool deck like the plague. It is not uncommon for deck hands to be arranging the deck chairs in the early morning hours. This involves dragging chairs, tables and loungers across the floor creating a lot of noise overhead. Clearly this is not desirable in the early morning hours. Additionally I never book a cabin without knowing what is above it and below it. Imagine the racket involved in making breakfast to a few thousand people and what time they might start. I never book a room above or below the galley (Kitchen). Additionally I have experienced and read other reviews on Carnival Dream class vessels of unpleasant sewer gas odors on the lower decks. We booked a cove balcony (awesome room, right on the water) on one ship and it stunk like poop in the hallway. Always read reviews on the ship you are booking and study the deck plans before selecting a room.

For our 25th I booked us on the NCL Epic. We, (I), made the HUGE mistake of "upgrading" us to a Haven Spa Suite. Which just happened to be on the 14th floor. DIRECTLY below the pool deck. NEVER AGAIN will we be below the pool deck on ANY ship. As for NCL. NEVER AGAIN. We will from that cruise forward be Loyal to Royal.

But wasn't the rest of the Haven worth it? Would you stay in the Haven again in a cabin that was more optimally placed?
@kevingreen7664

@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides I would say that the "exclusiveness" of the Haven was nice. The restaurant was without a doubt beyond great.The lounge and bar was always empty, so we could always relax and have a drink without a lot of noise. The private pool was good too. However, for the money we spent, I would still say no to booking it again. One of the biggest problems was that we were told that by booking the Haven we had a private lounge to wait to board. It was no "private" lounge. It was more a roped off area in the terminal, and they ran out of snacks and beverages while we were waiting. (Yes there was some that were beyond mad). And supposedly we would have priority elevator access with our sea pass key. Well that was a lie. Lastly, for those of us in the "Haven Spa" area, it was a Long walk to the front of the ship to access the Haven itself. Booing directly in the Haven would have solved that problem, true. Just overall, for the money, NO. Love your channel. Keep up the great videos.

@@kevingreen7664 I agree. I did some research before booking and heard that many Haven customers were unsatisfied overall, based on what they were paying. When I choose to spend that kind of money on a cruise, I think I'll go for one of the smaller, luxury ships, where you can get more personalized service and less people. The Bliss was beautiful, but it was overrun with kids and maybe too many people in general.

I have never been on a cruise but I keep dreaming! I always enjoy seeing them come into our port we had the MSC Meraviglia come in this summer and I was so excited when I saw it I felt like I had seen a real celebrity! I have no idea why it was here or where the cruises that come here are even going, the east coast of Canada seems like a weird place to stop to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

I miss the old style steam rooms they use to have on Royal CARIBBEAN ships. Are there any cruise lines that still have them. Often you’d be the only one in there. Now they have co-ed and charge to use them ! I liked getting time to myself in the old style ones. Royal use to have huge ones and even if someone came in, often you could be almost alone at the other end.

Avoid rooms at the end of corridors on lower decks which will be near where the anchors drop !! One year we had one of these rooms which was great most of the time quiet with no passing noise EXCEPT in the early hours of the morning when ship docked and anchor dropped .It was like an earth quake !! having said that after a few mornings we did get used to it .
