3 Day Red River Gorge Backpacking, Hiking, Camping Trip in Kentucky

For our trip in Kentucky we visited Red River Gorge which is home to over 100 arches, tons of trails, and beautiful views! We are beginners and we decided to do an ambitious 21 miles in the beginning but things took a couple turns! We hiked on the rough trail, grays arch trail, and a few others.

Generally, in the Gorge, with full backpacks, ordinary people can expect to do about a mile an hour. I shake my at so many who say they will do 10 miles in one day. Sure, some can, but it is intensely grueling and you need to be in super shape. But, for real coffee in the mornings, no instant stuff, thank you, I will gladly carry extra gear and weight! Always good to be there.

We ended up doing 2 miles that Friday night then 7 miles Saturday and then we reached the car at 2:00 p.m. and did alot of short hikes in after that. It was a great experience overall

That Shell Station is the RRG Hub! I have washed my feet and brushed my teeth in that parking lot a few times.

You nailed it with what to leave at home. Biggest mistake is trail 221 you chose. Its called rough trail. Haha... A way easier trail and you would have had a way better time. Auxier ridge loop is a great one.

I still had a blast! Felt a little bad for my girlfriend lol I know that strap that would have brought my bag closer to my back would have been nice to know about! I didn't notice it was so far off my back untill I watch the video.

Yes trail 221 is a tough trail. Which is why it’s called the rough trail. I actually like that trail a lot and I’m taking it again here this weekend. But it seems like y’all had a good time and made some memories for sure. But also every trip is a lesson for the next one! Good luck on all the future trips!

Your pack is hanging waaaaay behind you. There are straps on the top, pull those towards you to pull the weight in towards you more, should be a lot more comfortable.
