I’m active duty in the us navy, but i work a weird schedule on 3rd shift, and I’m sleeping during the day and don’t get much sunlight so I haven’t got out and fished much this winter, but these videos get me so excited for the summer to get back on the water! Here's a question: Why do Americans cast with their right hand and then swap the rod to the other hand to reel? Why not just have the reel handle on hhe left hand side. It makes absolutely no sense.

For me growing up left-handed models were hard to come by especially in stores. So we just used what was readily more available. Some just got used to it, I didn't. I use left-handed reels now that I have adult money, I never liked the switching of hands especially kayak fishing.

I do that. I think it’s just because I’m right handed so it’s easier to be more accurate and have more power with each cast to use my dominant hand and then switch to my left to hold while I reel with my dominant hand. I’ve tried casting with my left hand before and it just wasn’t as precise as it is with my right. I think it all just comes down to a comfort thing. All my spinning reels I swap the reel from a left hand retrieve to a right hand retrieve before I even spool up line on them
