The Italian parliament is approving a law to place tighter restrictions on Airbnb and other short-term rental platforms in Venice (the city is considered a special spot of national interest). The law states that rentals were driving people out of historical centre of Venice because the cost of renting is rising all the time. Other major European cities, including Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam and Prague, have taken significant steps to combat what they deem to be “overtourism” by restricting or even banning rentals in certain neighbourhoods, with some locals claiming that they are being marginalised from city centres due to rising rent prices. I hope Venice will return to be a "real" city in the future.

I love your travel videos. You’re doing a bang up job. Informative, entertaining and great choices of scenery. I’ve said on a past video and I’ll say it again… You just might have to make a travel channel or at least make travel a frequent part of your content. Your American travels have been good but your travels abroad are great 👍

This has got to be my favorite video of your trip so far. I found my mouth dropping open and gasping at the beautiful scenery of the city. Another fantastic moment was the first blown glass shop you entered, there was a black chandelier that was memorizing. The colorful cat drawing on the wall would make a wonderful print. I would definitely buy one. On top of all that, the glorious moon. I never thought much about going to Venice but now it will be on my list of cities to visit and explore. Thank you, thank you for taking us along. The manner in which you filmed your walks around the city made me feel like I was right next to you. This is a video that I will keep and look at again many times. You've made my evening very special. 🐞🌻🐕🇺🇸

I was in Milan 1 week ago.... glad you had such a great time in my country and that you love it so much. Even though Venice and florence are nice cities, although in all honesty a little overrated and mainstream, next time you come to Italy make sure to visit other places like Turin or Emilia Romagna, Naples, Sardinia or Sicily...you won't regret it. Maybe one day I'll manage to visit your country...thanx for sharing😘

I think this was absolutely wonderful Laura. You mentioned the expensive of food in some countries, I agree and is something worth mentioning for first time travellers. Factor food cost into your spending money! I'm sure there are ways to reduce this cost but it's worth considering. My best friend and I travelled to Vietnam, food was very inexpensive but we made sure breakfast was included in our hotel stays. Thank you for a great virtual holiday with you and Jesse. Your camera work is the best Laura 😊💗

If you go to Airbnb, you can shop in a supermarket and cook your own food for a lot cheaper
@Holambrart8 ай бұрын
Hello, the food can be expensive but there are also cheaper restaurants. In Europe, food on terraces is always more expensive and is generally more popular with tourists. I have little money, so when I travel, I always try to eat outside of the tourist crowd and look for places where people from the city frequent. ;-) When I travel, I always have a hot meal at night, during the day I try local snacks and I also often buy things at the supermarket to eat and drink

Gondola rides are overrated. The best way to feel a city is by walking. I loved the narrow bridges and alleys in Venice . It is an over touristed city. The locals feel that they have been pushed out. I’ve been enjoying your European shopping vacation videos, and I hope to one day go back a third time! I feel the need to make a comment in reference to something you said. No offense intended. The Milan Cathedral is not larger than St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. I’d also like to mention that thrifting in Eastern Europe is great. Poland, Slovenia, Lithuania, Croatia, etc. If you ever plan on getting back there, I’d like to suggest you go to Germany in December for the Christmas markets. IMHO Erfurt’s is the best. Overall Italy is the best overall. And read everything you can by Rick Steves. He made my European trips better and very inexpensive as well!

So fun seeing you in my neck of the woods! Next time you are in Milan for a longer time I can bring you to my fave thrift shops. An interesting tidbit about the Duomo - for many years no building could be built in town that was higher than the gold Madonna statue on top of the Duomo. It was considered disrespectful. Only very recently things changed with the building of the new area at Porta Nuova (think glass skyscrapers). Back to watch - I love Venice!
