Pumped when I seen this upload man! . Don’t give up on it . Check your pick up tube on your new oil pump and make sure you are using the right o ring that came with the pump. Cam bearings are another major cause of low oil pressure. Heard you say something about the the cam being pretty rough. Worn cam bearings can cause low oil pressure too. Also check the dowl bypass on the back of the block. Might have bad seal. Maybe swap a oil pressure sensor to to make sure it’s not that. Hopefully it’s something simple!

Oil pressure runs from cam bearings in a camshaft Sophie play. Noel came in that has scratches or any type of scoring. It will drop oil pressure but oil pressure mainly runs through cams.

If you didnt you need to change the pickup tube 0-ring those are a common issue on the Ls's where they get hard, Smashed over time, Or simply cracked and it'll make it suck air

A buddy of mine had bad luck with the melling pumps he tried them twice and ended up just going back to an ac delco pump which gave him good oil pressure, same symptoms too it would start off good but then go low once warmed up

I would never buy a junkyard engine and not completely disassemble it to make 100% sure that it's gonna be good to go. A fresh oil pump and pickup seals would be a great idea as well.

Hey poe, in the back of the motor, there is a part called a barbell. They will snap in half because they are plastic. It will direct oil back to the pan instead of to the top end. Buy an aluminum one for like 30 bucks. It’s good assurance

And now that I’ve watched the video all the way through, a high pressure pump will snap those barbells because they can’t handle the pressure. Your oil pressure sensor is on the top end. Could explain your problem of low op with no knock. Replace the sensor and screen too.

The pressure across the barbell is only the difference in pressure drop across the filter. Oil pressure will not break a barbell. I've never seen a broken one. The only benefit to an aluminum barbell is the oring seal that prevents a small amount oil from bypassing the filter.

I’ve built a few LS, when installing the new oil pump, did you shim to center the housing? If you didn’t it will cause oil pressure issues, and will destroy the oil pump if you get unlucky enough,

Man some engines can handle low idle oil pressure. My jeep(4.0) idles around 8-10 psi and has done that for the last 6k miles no problem, and to my knowledge 5.3/6.0 lq motors are able to handle down to like 7psi at idle. So if she’s still running and not making the oil dirty I wouldn’t worry about it too much

Put a bit of oile down each spark plug hall and then if your oil pressure goes up then that means the new oil pump u put in it is faulty

If you haven't already, get on Summit racing and get the largest Accusump setup you can get. LS engines are not priority main oiling and lateral Gs will kill that new to you engine you just threw in there, especially if that Mellings oil pump you got was a high volume DoD pump, it will suck the pan dry and the oil will be stuck in the topside of the engine and will not drain back down when you are sideway. You can help it by tapping in top end secondary drains in the heads, but don't rely on it. The only way to completely solve the oiling issue on an LS in a drift car is a legitimate multi-stage dry sump system. Edit: Comment was made while watching the video so I didn't see the unfortunate ending and low oil pressure. Looking back, the mismatch on the heads would be my first indication that you have an issue with the seals on the front or rear cover seals or a cam bearing issue. Oil path for an LS comes off the oil pump, straight back to the oil filter, around the dogbone/barbell then up to the pressure sensor behind the valley cover to read pressure. From there, it pressurizes the two galleys where the lifters are above the cam and then the cam bearings before it finally reaches the main bearings crosses through the holes in the crankshaft and finally to the rods. Since it isn't knocking, but low oil pressure, I would bet you have a cam bearing that is about to self delete or (if you are lucky) a bad seal on the rear cover or the cam retainer plate. I replace that cam retainer plate every time if it has been heat cycled and removed.
