Great video because I LOVE my 2 hybrids (19 & 22 degree). They replace my 3 and 4 iron respectively, and I love the versatility they provide on the course. Every single time I pull those out, they just scream confidence and make the game more enjoyable for me. Keep up the great videos!!

Great tip Chris! I've been using my 6 and 7 hybrids for chip and run shots anywhere up to 50 metres for my last 3 rounds. It has revolutionised my short game and I've taken so many strokes off my score! I used to try variations of PW, 56, 52 trying to get that lovely loft and stop that the pros do - but invariably I would chunk it off the sole and shoot right through, or I'd catch it thin and fall short so many times. I accepted that I just don't have the skills to do it. So I tried the hybrid chip and run approach instead. Brilliant! So easy, more controlled and more confidence around the green.

I enjoy your presentations, they are clear, precise and easy to understand. My hybrid and 3 wd off the ground are usually on the low side. From your demonstration, I interpret that I should hit more downward into the ball; that I am probably coming into the ball too level.

I have used all of these and loved the hybrids so much, I switched to all hybrids, watching my score drop. My 2 favorites have been using the hybrid off the tee, and also putting from the edge of the rough by the fringe and also when on the fringe, like this about 50 feet away.

I choose to use my hybrid for punch shots out of the trees, instead of a 4 or 5 iron, the hybrid takes less energy in the swing and will go straighter - great for punching out 150 up the green between several trees, etc.

I affirm the flexibility of the hybrid and actually the confidence it gives you. Recently I walked the course for many rounds just with six clubs - no putter even- using the hybrid as the putter also and my score was as good as when I had the full set- the hybrid was the most used club

A hybrid was the first club in my bag that I actually felt good about using early on when I started playing. I still love my 4H n still hit it well and use it for typical longer distance shots and on occasion to hit low punch shots when I’m in trouble n need a low long distance shot. Like a wayward drive that needs to be put on the green or at least shot back into better position. I will never change my Callaway Xhot 4H🙌

Man, thanks for mentioning the tee height! I've watched many vids on here about hybrids, and they don't even mention the height! A quarter inch is perfect height! I would add that steel shafts are underrated here, and a shorter club is better than too long. Off a tee I can smash a 4 hybrid, but I can't hit a driver for anything.... beautiful swing at 6:18!

Great tip on teeing the ball down when using the hybrid for your first shot. Sometimes don’t hit it cleanly/pop that ball into the air off the Tee, generally it’s from teeing the ball up too high & subsequently having to modify my swing

Thanks for the video, Chris. My irons are Ping Karsten cavity backs which hit great. Reasonably long, high and very forgiving. The two hybrids which came with the set are a 3h and a 4h. After 4 years of trying to hit the hybrids, I have found them to be the most frustrating clubs in my bag. I’ve tried hitting like irons, hitting like fairway woods, steep, shallow, easy, hard...all i can hit with them are worm burners. Consequently, i don’t even put them in my bag anymore. I replaced them with a 7 metal wood, which i hit very well. Considering how well i hit ALL my clubs with the exception of the two hybrids, I know I am doing something desperately wrong. What are the most common mistakes a duffer like me makes with hybrids? Thank you from Texas!

Great advice again M8. Fell well out of love with hybrids after nearly decapitating a player on a green almost at 90 degrees to my right, (im a RH player) big out of the toe strike. I lost total trust and confidence in my ability to use them. Playing on my own and having the occasional crack with them, I found new faith after discovering your first point, real low tee height. I also pick a point about the length of the club head in front of the ball, place my left toe in line with that point and hey presto, im falling in love with them all over again. Big distance. Bad shots are becoming much rarer. :)

I like Hybrids due to the ability to play poor lies, I think for most causal playa's they don't need Irons >6 Iron, 2 Hybrids are a much easier club combo. For many, I think they can replace a 3 wood. With some practice, you can work them low or high, alittle hard to work a fade though. I use my 5 Hybrid around the greens to bump it on close.

Taken my hybrids out of the bag as they have a left tendency unless I remember to slightly open the face first.
@mctayto16 жыл бұрын
When I say left I refer to draw thus already in to out marginally. On my irons this produces a baby draw but with a hybrid this escalates to 15yd. We have a par 3 that is 190-200 yd depending on flag and tee position with a 10yd window a third of the way to the hole between trees. In order to hit a hybrid the risk of catching these trees is to great. It would be wiser to use two wedges and play for a bogey.
@mctayto16 жыл бұрын
Currently I go short with a 6 iron as I have a tendency to fat my 4 iron. Another issue with this hole is greenside bunkers left & right front so if you choose a low shot you must be straight ie 10yd between front bunkers which is why I use a short shot for safety. My theory is short, then close with a chip and one putt. It doesn't always go to plan :( so may try other hybrids to see if I can find a less draw biased one..
@mctayto16 жыл бұрын
Being a par three the hole is designed to land on the green and have 2 putts for par. On this hole landing short needs a near perfect 2nd shot to achieve par due to undulations of the green. Landing on the green with the first shot gives you the opportunity to putt close and then achieve par. It is our only par 3 that birdies are a premium and pars are the real objective. Stroke index 6. Going long isn't an option so it also rules out a 3/4 shot for 3 wood

@ChrisRyanGolf6 жыл бұрын
Ha, I like that, a wedge that you can hit from 220! 😂
@scottiescott92976 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I sometimes hit my 3Hy 215-225, but struggle to consistently hit 220 with my D. So... if there’s a risk of shanking my D shots into the woods or water, and I’m (usually) hitting longer or just-as-long with my 3W and 3Hy anyway, why even take the D out of the bag? Until my coach can help me get my Driver swing right, I’ll be (and have been) modifying my approach to all par4s and 5s. I’ll bust out the 3W and 3Hy more than my D, because in my effort to reach the Par 4s in 2, I just need to hit 200+ - twice... and I’m there. Similar approach to the Par 5s.

This club in reality is not a new idea, it infact resembles some of the earliest clubs from the days when hickory shafts were the norm. Its this knowledge that has made me more accepting of them than would otherwise have been, as I love my 3 and 4 iron, but for me I would actually consider it as a club that replaces the 5 wood, which was a club that for many a year sat in players bags. The one shot this video misses out is the shot out of light rough. It is handy off tee and fairway, but can be that club to play from first cut a light to medium rough. When you think about early golf courses and that they were not the manicured lawns we see today, its easy to see why the early hickory example of this club evolved, and why when courses became manicured, they disappeared from bags and were forgotten about. Its only they have a new name for this new millennium.
