Boat’s looking good Benny! Love your videos. It’s like hanging out in the garage with a friend. Every time I’m watching these boat videos I keep humming the Alan Jackson tune “Drive” and thinking about the lyrics “ran her for years till the transom got rotten, a piece of my childhood never be forgotten”
@kentuckyyankee Жыл бұрын
Thank you! It certainly was rotten! It's been a tough week sanding.

@@kentuckyyankee it’s so satisfying to see it coming together so SOLID compared to how NOT SOLID it was at the beginning!!!

nothing wrong with regular plywood. the issue is sealing the plywood. I glue the two pieces together and roll 2 coats of fiberglass resin over the entire thing front, back, and all edges. Some people paint it but I feel fiberglass is better.
@earlywhiskey18479 ай бұрын
The wood will rot where you drilled the bolt holes in the bottom of the transom through the aluminum unless you seal the whole replacement piece you put in. It will work until it doesn’t.😅

Why not rebuild the transom with aluminum square tube if you have the tools? I have a similar boat and a mig welder, seems smarter to eliminate the wood...

This transom repair has been great, probably better than original

I hate ppl in comments everyone is a specialist i dont see them doing this if your not doing it right they should show us how to do it i have found you have a 100 ways to do something and some ways may be better but still i need a cheap quick fix to get me on the water for this summer and next i will tear it down thus winter and do it better
@arciefan6 ай бұрын
Those splash pans in the back too often get used by someone fishing out of the back of the boat as a place to put their feet when they get hung up and the guy up front backs them up there to get it loose. Most of those pans are thin and can't take that much weight or pressure. Their purpose is just to catch water and drain it back into the lake. I feel bad but i've had to tell people in the back, "hey that's not a step there".

I might have gone out and bought marine epoxy, one that penetrares like... wood epoxy hardener. Then sand and marine epoxy final cost.
