We had a really creepy guy in our neighborhood, with all sorts of stories surrounding him. Even the police seem to view him as a suspicious character. Being the inner city of Chicago and a neighborhood in rapid decline, there were a few incidents that involved kids going missing. My 8 year old self was completely afraid of this old man. That was until the day he saved my life, from a real child predator. The guy grabbed me after chasing me down, while dragging me past the "horror house" to his car. The old man came out with an old bumper jack and knocked the guy out cold. The man then walked me the block and a half home and explained to my grandfather what happened. The man turned out to just be a bitter, lonely man who couldn't clearly communicate in English. When he spoke to my grandfather, they spoke in Ukrainian. After that, I would visit him at least a couple of times a week. Also after that, the neighbors began being much nicer and friendlier to him, especially the kids. He passed a few years after. Yes the predator was arrested that day.

I'm sorry, but if your child screams and runs into your room in the middle of the night telling you there is someone at their window, not taking them seriously or at the very least not taking some kind of measure to see if they're lying (like setting up a camera or something) is just straight up bad parenting

Absolutely, I couldn't imagine doing that to my daughter. I go running in the middle of the night out of a dead sleep if she calls out she has a spider or moth in her room. As a child I was stalked by a stranger. Facing multiple abductions for over a year. My mom didn’t believe me either and I was written off so many times. It wasn’t until one time after refusing to let go of the cross guard when walking to school; my mom was called into the school and the police were finally called. The men (plural, a partnership?) continued to stalk me. Asking me to get in a conversion van, chasing me down in a firebird and getting out to grab me as I screamed bloody terror running like hell. Years later my mom would confess that she thought I was making it all up until a man was arrested in my neighborhood after climbing into a window to assault another young girl in my class with very identifiable similar features. As an adult I was recently diagnosed with PTSD. This moment in my young adolescent life (started when I was 6) is part of why I have PTSD. I posted earlier re: Dorothy - about my night terrors and sleep walking. These are symptoms of my PTSD. Needless to say, it’s sad, but true that parents disregard their young children more then what is imaginable. Parents ignoring their kids cause irreparable damage.

My grandma lived next door to a murderer. His name was Asa, and he was accused of infanticide, or killing his baby daughter. He "cried" so much in court, and my grandma says that the jury was bias, a group of young women around Asa's age. Asa, according to her, was very "dashing" according to her. He also kidnapped a neighbor's puppy and when the owner went around the neighborhood looking for the dog, one neighbor who lived near Asa said she saw him carrying bloody towels to the trash. Neighbors can be a real terror. Careful when and where you move.
@katierojas80663 жыл бұрын
Can’t always predict that prior to moving in.
@roadscapehorror-talesofterror3 жыл бұрын
@@katierojas8066 Quite true. Although a little recon can sometimes reveal more ominous forebodings. Such as spite fences next if you happen to be moving to a house. Poorly kept grounds next door could be another indicator. It's not conclusive of course, but indicative of potential future problems and/ or clashes. Apartments are more hit and miss. If you smell the stench of a rotting corpse next door before you sign the lease, then run!
@roadscapehorror-talesofterror3 жыл бұрын
As a further addendum, you can always apply English common law principles under the law of nuisance adopted by many states and if the nuisance comes to you, then you may have a viable cause of action against the tortfeasor to abate the nuisance such as injunctive or monetary relief.

Story 2 : as other commenters has mentioned, probably Dorothy in some stage of sundowner dementia. Story 3 : dude, seriously? The child in distress and the parents rather choose their beauty sleep? Iv just moved house and my new neighbour didn't approve since while my new house was empty for years before I moved there, it gave him free reign to use the garden as his own. One night when I was alone he had jumped over the fence on the back garden and was doing something (I don't know what) but when I saw him after hearing him talk to his family over the fence, I confronted him and asked him to leave immediately. He refused and kept repeating he sentence "I don't need to leave, it's not your garden" to me.. I wanted no physical confrontation so after several times of him refusing to leave I went inside and phoned police and the second the police car pulled up, he quickly jumped back over the fence. It's not chilling or scary but it was very, very bizarre and the fact he said he didn't need to leave because it's not my garden is super strange behaviour and you just never really know someone's intentions when they are acting wierd like that.

Really bad parenting in story number 3. Who in the right mind would think their kid would scream and run to the parents and say, "there is a person out my window" and think they were imagining it. Those parents are lazy. They should have gone out and investigate. If a kid says they saw something that scared them you go look and make sure your child is safe.
