Dunno if you'll see this but I wanted to thank you for this video, I found it one year ago while looking for creepy crawlies to keep as a pet after years of being interested in them, I started hyperrixating over millepedes for an entire year before getting one on my birthday last November. Her name is Gooper and she's the prettiest little lady ever, I love her very much and she helps me calm down when I'm stressed. Again thank you very much!!

I started off with mantids, because they looked cool lmao; first time I ever saw a praying mantis in person is when I got a couple as a gift. Then moved onto a tarantula, giant millipede and a giant snail. Unfortunately I'm at uni much of the year now so can't normally care for animals. However, due to covid returned home early so have a beetle grub arriving friday, Oryctes genus (monocerus or erebus). Figured I might as well since I already have multiple unused suitable tanks lying around.

Good luck with your grubs! I have a couple of rhino beetle grubs too, you'll be surprised how big they can grow!

Good video👍, only thing I’d emphasise a lot more is that millipedes (and cockroaches) really do benefit from decaying matter like oak leaves and bits of hardwood mixed into their substrate (not just good for beetle grubs). This forms a very important part of a millipede’s diet in particular, so in my opinion fruit and veg alone wouldn’t be enough.

How do do you maintain the breeding colony, do they eventually overrun the terrarium and you have to cull some by hand or do they keep themselves in check? How much would it cost for leaves and rotting wood a month to have sun beetles, millipedes, and maybe a cleanup crew? Anything else fun that could go in with the sun an milipedes? I won’t want to put the roaches in

Have you tried the Goliath varieties? If you’re adept with African climb already. Those that one heavy rhino from Peru and Amazonian and American Hercules are my goals, I’m off to get proper potting mix

Can you or anybody tell me whether they stop breeding if the space becomes confined or something..? Because I would like to have them, I just think they are pretty. But then, would I at some point have a tank full of beetles? Or can I manage population by diets..?

Hi, with beetles found in the wild it is often best to let them remain there. This is because one of the leading causes for decking numbers of beetles is that they are taken from their habitats and kept as pets, therefore making them unable to mate and reproduce. There are lots of rainbow stag beetles available online that are bred in captivity :)
