We were talking about saw frames..... I use the older style German (adjustable) frames with strips of 3M fabric sand"paper". The smoothing of the sawn split in ring shank #2 is a perfect example of a job that can be done well with fabric sandpaper strips anchored in a saw frame. I'll send you a picture.

That is a fantastic idea! Thanks:)

Very pretty Chad. I love making these styles of bands. But, I cheat on the 3rd one and buy the ready made triple strip from Rio Grande.

I haven't made many rings, mostly earrings and pendants, but you make it look so easy. I think my biggest challenge is getting the sizing right, but I guess it's all about practice. I think maybe I'll attempt a ring today! Thank you for the nudge!👍

Thanks Rochelle:). I look forward to seeing your amazing ring!

@chadssilversmithing Had a great day at the bench yesterday and made the first shank version in your tutorial with a bezel set tumbled earthy green turquoise. It went really well except, I should know better than to eyeball, cut the shank a bit too short, and made a 9 instead 9.5. Despite that, I love how it turned out! Thank you again for the nudge.

"Cut that part out" whoopsie 😂 Seriously though, it's nice to see/hear your process as you go, even when it doesn't work as well as you'd envisioned. Makes me feel a bit more secure when i fudge things up a bit!

Been making rings with more open bands shaping on a mandrel with one flat side. Thinking they fit securely but wondering if there is any traditional knowledge re closed circle ring bands versus open ones with stone weight or size variations. Thank you.
@chadssilversmithing2 ай бұрын
The biggest difference I notice Toby is that with closed circles, the head of the ring sits quite a bit higher above the finger. I like them to sit a little lower myself:)

How do you polish pieces, specifically rings? Getting under the shank seems difficult.

Hello Lindsey. Here are a couple of videos that show my polishing and pre-polishing process:). kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6e2lnSflKlsipIsi=86Def-YT-P0aC7sh. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haHPnaGKo9ijiq8si=9isW6mUt7DH1EoiH

Do you ever use patina on any of your pieces?
@chadssilversmithing19 күн бұрын
@@EnniRock Yes. I used to use Black Max, but I’ve been experimenting with some of those gel liver of sulfer compounds. Mixed results so far:)
