I didn't realize it until I started looking into Rockabilly style playing, but these rhythms are really 12 bar blues progressions that have been sped up, and instead of hitting each note once you hit it twice. I have also learned that folks like Johnny Cash/Luther Perkins and Chuck Berry are considered early Rockabilly pioneers. Honestly, I've always thought of Cash as a country singer and Berry as a Rock and Roll guy, but that's the whole point of Rockabilly right-----that time in the 50s and early 60s when the two were blended. Dwight Yokum has a hit called Fast As You that has the same rhythm as you show here. It's amazing to me to be finding all this out now when it's been right there plain as day all along. LOL.

Hello my friend! I am a Death Metal Freak for over 25 years. In my youth i heard from time to time the Stray Cats record "rant and rave with the...". A coupel of days ago i bougth a Gretsch Guitar and start playing Rockabilly music. I love this "swinging feel" and the sound of this guitar! Your videos are very helpfull for me to learn about this great style of music! I bougth also your Rockabilly DVD (Download). Thanks for doing this vids and greetings from the Black Forest in the south of Germany! (Btw, it is funny to see that the band SLAYER plays on the same scales as many blues and Rockabilly guitarists . We are brothers but in diferent sounds 😁)

Flood of old memories came back w/ pic of the Gulfport Casino....grew up there years n years ago .. some of the best music/musicians came out of that area ...so long ago....makes me yearn for that place & time & the hotties on that spa beach...except for the hangovers..that place was Al Capone's winter stomping grounds.
@Damianblf
@Damianblf 3 жыл бұрын
There's a nice painted mural of John Prine in Gulfport. You probably know that he had a house there. Have you ever been to the Jungle Prada area in St. Pete? The old restaurant by the water is said to have been a place where Al Capone would sneak in alcohol from boats during prohibition. Thanks for watching the lesson. :)
@biospheres
@biospheres 3 жыл бұрын
@@Damianblf What gets me...very few knew it but that was some of the last stomping grounds of Jack Kerouac "End of the Road" you could write a book about infamous outlaws, pirates and 60's/70's Rock n Rollers that wet their whistle there. And the Roaring 20's prohibition Era is a whole other story. Al Capone's house was a short boat ride from that pier. He kept the Cuban booze across the Bay and Buyers on Gulfport side.

They are awesome guitars and I still play mine in my band and record with it as well. It was good to see you have an appreciation for them. and "Guitar Boogie" was one of the first boogie licks I learned back in my childhood. Thanks Damian, another cool bit of "Coolness"
