Very impressed at the quick, nonchalant magnets swap to genuine Alnico 5's. I've just replaced the entire pickups in the past. The Tele neck pickup cover removal reminded me of my first genuine Tele I bought used in early 1986. It was my first professional grade electric guitar, an early 70's Fender Telecaster. The original pickups were microphonic with weak output. I intended to wax pot them, as I had successfully done other pickups. I mistakenly raked those metal tabs of the neck pickup cover across the wire windings. That ruined the pickup and was only fixable with a coil rewind. Through most of the eighties Semie Moseley had his Mosrite guitar manufacturing shop local to me in Burke County NC. I contacted Semie and took that Tele neck pickup to him to rewind. Never actually got the pickup back, but it was cool to visit his shop then in 1986, and two more times the following year.

Leo Fender employed the "3-Saddle Bridge" design on his (original) BROADCASTER. This was NOT an accident. There was method to his madness. The unmistakable, unique "Telecaster Tone," which cuts through any mix and some folks have described as "an icepick to the forehead," emanates from the bridge pickup which sits right below the strings at their shortest distance from the bridge. Two strings share each saddle of the bridge. When one of the strings is plucked, its' "partner string" on the same saddle, vibrates "sympathetically" with the 1st string creating sonic harmonics that NO OTHER GUITAR IN THE WORLD can produce. I paid $1, 500.00 for a brand-new American Fender Telecaster in the 90's and was disappointed to see that they had switched to a "6-Saddle Bridge" design. ☹

Hey Sean, I had the telly just like that one. I sold it but not for any wrong reasons.I didn't know if I was gonna do any gigging for a while. And It went to a very good home they were pleasantly pleased. But I put chicken head knobs For tone and volume and it looked great! Just for looks and a change of pace. Anyway, the only thing that was wrong with it was the fact that the lead pick up was not hooked up.I had to solder it up myself.Literally nothing when you rolled the volume. But once I did that I put earnie ball super slinky's on it and it sounded Great! It was called, 'and you know what This means', an open box deal. It was 80 bucks, no shipping! Hell of a deal! Anyway, love what you did with it. And they are great guitars in my mind! Rock on Mr. Shagnastys! 👍🤘🏻🎸😉

I just got the cheapest Donner Strat (DST-80) and I think the tuners were hand-tightened only... And that goes for the little back screws too! The finish and frets have signs of bad storage and there's literally a crack through the body. There's none left in stock, so I'm hoping they get newly-built ones while my return window is still open. Other than the crack, it's a really cool body with a deep unfilled grain pattern and satin shell pink finish. It's an obvious cost-saver, but I think it has a really unique surf shack vibe. I'm surprised I don't see more on KZbin. The black finish looks pretty badass and driftwoody.

Awesome video Sean. I have been on the fence, looking at several inexpensive China LEFTY electric guitars to do upgrades to make it a decent player. I have learned much from your channel and view all the videos I can through U-tube non - subscription. I am using a lefty acoustic dreadnought due to missing fingers on my left hand, so I pick with my left and cord right. I'm not the best by a long shot but I try. I been thinking about the Lyx-pro as I have heard had a better neck to start with. For me I would do the drill through body, as I have a good drill press. I would likely replace the pick-ups and go to a bone nutt and locking tuners. I have most of the tools to do the guitar. I would video my progress and try to make it a viewable quality with my old Motorola phone. Playing clean and no n microphonic is what I like. Your absolutely right about Gibson and Fender in their quality leaves much to be desired and you too much for what you get. ( Lousy value); and these companies did it to themselves. Thanks for your videos and your helping more people than you will ever know. 73 GOD bless; Earnest K5EWM.👍

I had no idea you could remove the ceramic magnet(s), and put in Alnico pole pieces. Good to know!
@zuperdee6 ай бұрын
It is NOT always advisable though. It’s only safe to do in cases where the coil is wrapped around a solid bobbin. In many vintage pickups, however, the coil wire is actually wrapped directly around the magnetic pole pieces, and hammering the pole pieces in/out that way can potentially snag the coil wire and break it. Of course, if you have vintage pickups, chances are you already have AlNiCo magnets, but it’s still good to be aware, as I’ve also heard of people damaging their pickup coils by trying to flatten out staggered pole pieces on a vintage Strat, for example. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

I'm planning on doing your recommended mods & it will be my first time modding a guitar so I'm a little nervous but for $83 what the heck! Do you think the bridge should be replaced? @scarmyguitar So I ordered the bridge you show in your list but I didn't read the fine print because when it arrived it's for the string through setup. Going to try a different one that looks like it might work only the holes won't line up with the old ones. I don't want to use the stock bridge because I want each string to have it's own saddle. No biggie. There's always a few blind alleys to run down. That's what makes it interesting!

I just got the Nomad Frine kit and I wonder if it's just the same stuff as the Meguiar's or Mother's automotive rubbing/polishing compounds I already use for guitars. I've shined up a couple satin guitars with that stuff, and it didn't even occur to me to use a drill or Dremel polisher. I just got the famous cheap clear-guard Leo Jaymz tele in sweet purple, and both the frets and fretboard could use a polish... So do you think I could get away with just going over it all with car polish and a tool like you used? The Leo Jaymz tele is the only cheap guitar I see that isn't just called a C-shape neck. They call it C+U, and that makes a big difference to me.
