Oh no! I totally get that. I once watched a video where the woman's hands looked like she had just been digging in the garden. It really put me off and I couldn't watch it to the end, even thought I loved what she was making. I try really hard to keep my hands clean and in good condition because they are on camera so close. This is the most informative technique for addressing how to work with crimp beads I have viewed. The simplistic approach makes it easier to retain yet the process is successful. I utilize cardboard rolls (paper towels and bathroom rolls), as a benefit for my vegetable garden. Now I have another purpose for 1 or 2 when I teach jewelry making sessions. Of course I will give credit where it's due. Thank you. New Subscriber.

Thanks for this! Teaching my daughters how to bead necklaces and our crimps have been failing. I think we have been crossing the wire before crimping down and the tail then easily pulls out of the crimp!
@The_Stylish_Maker
@The_Stylish_Maker 10 ай бұрын
Thank you, Chris. Yes, I get asked about failing crimps a lot. It's a matter of keeping those wires uncrossed and also getting the pressure right - if it's too hard you can damage the crimp tube - if it's too light it won't hold. Are you using crimping pliers or just squeezing them flat?
@cmarkel
@cmarkel 10 ай бұрын
@AffordableJewellerySupplies most of the time I use crimping pliers, but I do think I was crossing the wires a lot of the time. Or like you said, applied the wrong amount of pressure! I will keep watching your vids as I love to learn. Thanks again!
@The_Stylish_Maker
@The_Stylish_Maker 10 ай бұрын
If you're using crimping pliers I can't see how you could cross the wires, because the wire needs to go on either side of the divot. Maybe it's the pressure. I think perhaps you could just experiment using some scrap wire until you get it right.

Hi Victoria, the stringing material I am using is called Tiger Tail. You should be able to get it at any store that sells beading supplies. It's very common. I generally use a 0.38mm but you can use any size, as long as it fits through your beads. Thank you so much for your quesiton.

Helpful vid. Ending a bracelet can be a bit tricky. I see though that when you use the Xuron crimper, you don't always use crimp cover. It may look well enough on its own but I think a nice crimp cover gives a more polished look. And yes, I can see why you love the magic crimper. Sometimes, I think wire guards aren't always necessary as I've seen more than a few pieces of jewelry without them. Would you use wire guards all the time? Much thx from NY!

Good explanations! The TP roll made for a great demo! I have never been able to put on a crimp cover decently. I hate them too! I'm intrigued by the Magic crimp tool - but it looks like you need certain wire thickness & certain crimp beads. my wire is only .014-inch diameter- would that work?
@The_Stylish_Maker

Thank you. Yes, it should work. That's 0.38mm which is what I usually use. You do need a 2mm crimp tube with thick walls to use the Magical Crimp Plier. Apart from the Magical Crimps, I hear that Softflex do a good one that can be used as well.

Could you maybe also do a tutorial on which crimp tubes/beads to use with what size wire. I find it quite confusing, because sometimes on the packiging it says 2 mm crimp tubes for 5 mm wire, but non of my wire is a round a number.......and what do you do when you only thread it through once, like when you're using a bead tip? How importwant is the width of a crimp tube/bead?
@The_Stylish_Maker
@The_Stylish_Maker Жыл бұрын
That's a great question. I hadn't thought of doing a tutorial on that - I will have a think about it. In the meantime, in my opinion, the crimp size isn't vital. As long as your wire goes through the crimp tube twice (or once or if you're only passing through once), it really doesn't matter. If you're folding your crimp tube, you do need to allow a little bit of space for that as well. I generally use either a 1.5mm or 2mm crimp for all my projects where I used Tiger Tail. I usually use a 0.38mm tiger tail but sometimes a 0.45mm and those crimps work perfectly. I don't understand how a 5mm wire would go through a 2mm crimp tube. What kind of wire are you using?
@floatingisland544
@floatingisland544 Жыл бұрын
@@The_Stylish_Maker Ok, thank you. I meant 0.5 mm, sorry. The wire I use is soft flex 0.36 mm and I never gave the crimp tube size much thought till I bought some 2 mm crimp tubes, which stated on the back of the package that they were to be used along with 0.5 mm beading wire. But good to know that I can use them for my 0.36 mm wire as well.

@The_Stylish_Maker

I get asked this question all the time. Crimp tubes won't deteriorate over time. There's a couple of things that could be happening: a) you could be crossing the wires b) you could be squeezing too hard. c) the crimp tubes themselves are poor quality. You want to look for crimp tubes that have an even wall. I have used Beadsmith Crimp Tubes for a while now and they always seem to be good. amzn.to/3uCd3A8 I hope that helps.

@The_Stylish_Maker
@The_Stylish_Maker Жыл бұрын
That's a great question - one I had to investigate. I didn't have a large enough crimp bead to try it so here's my best guess. The magical crimp beads measure 2x2mm. They are very straight, some crimp beads are quite round. If you can find another crimp bead that's exactly that size and shape, I would think it would work. I'd love for you to try it and let me know. I may have to go and find some crimp beads myself of similar size and see whether I can make it work. Sorry, I can't give you a definite answer but I'll keep investigating.

@@floatingisland544 I tried it with smaller crimp beads but it wouldn't work. They need to be the specific size for them to work.

Hi Ruth, thanks for your question. I used to have the same problem too. I found that I wasn't squeezing hard enough - my hards are not strong. Also, you need to make sure that the wire is not crossed inside the crimp. That one's important as if they are, the crimp won't hold. Check those things and then come back to me if you're still having issues. Carol

@@ruthhaynes1104 .. I had the same issue for over a year. I finally utilized a Sharpie to differentiate which side was which (I marked the cut end for simplicity sake), and used scrap wire for practice. I forced myself to practice at least :30 every day. I was amazed how many times the wires were 'crossing' inside the crimp tube. As is my normal with lots of practice I was finally able to make it work. I admit during my 'learning curve' I would put a bit of glue on crimp tubes and covered it with a bead with a larger hole - it was literally glued-in-place while securing the crimp. (Those were only on my necklaces. I did not sell or gift them. They were finally reworked and have new homes.) If a necklace was a bit heavier I would utilize 2 crimp beads and cover them with glue and a larger hole bead. Now that I am more confident working with crimps I admit earrings can be made quickly and they are secure. I do often introduce crimp covers with a drop of glue, when done properly they resemble a bead.

Hello friends. Out of the blue and only 14k gold crimp tubes 👀🫣🙄 I started to experience breakage of Beadalon Supplemax right after I crimp the tube 😫 the cord that is literally unbreakable just fell off twice on me 😩 any ideas what can I be doing wrong? Thank you so much for your help with this

Hi Nicole, I really don't have any solution or even suggestions for you. I've never used the Beadalon Supplemax so I can't comment on its strength. I just checked the Beadalon website and it does say that it's best knotted. The only thing I can think of is that there's some sharp edges on your crimp bead but that shouldn't be enough to break the stringing material completely. Perhaps you could try contacting Beadalon for some suggestions. Sorry I can't be of more help.

@@The_Stylish_Maker thank you so much ! For whatever reason, it didn’t show me you responded! I’m sorry for my late reply. I have fixed it with gentle pliers and different carats crimp tube. It’s holding - for now, but I can’t compare it to sterling silver hold. Everything I do with silver hold better. It’s a mystery ☺️

@@nicoleszekely I'm glad you fixed the problem. Sometimes the quality changes and they don't tell us. Maybe that's what happened here.
