What is ELO?

@@brewswillas6635Short version, it's a matchmaking score originating from chess. When you win a match, it goes up, when you lose a match, it goes down. The winner and loser's ELO changes by the same amount, and that amount is proportional to the difference between the two players, so that a master doesn't gain much from crushing a newbie. AoE2 ELO starts at 1000.

He soon stopped doing it, which I assume is because Smurfing became a serious problem on that release of the game and he didn't want to influence people in copying him. When I was 4 I'd spend all day in scenario editor and fill it with units and have massive fights. I was too dumb to know how to use triggers so I didn't know how to make infinitely spawning units. If I did I probably would've crashed the computer.

Watching T90 will keep you above 300 ELO I can guarantee it. I went from 500 ELO to about 750 just by watching T90 LEL video without additional practice

no offence and such, all cool. but it is somehow beyond me how someone would play online without prior knowledge, continue to do so and then propably not even reading what things do. Or never played the tutorial campaign xD. I mean, i am propably bad , but this right here, is very entertaing presented content. But, my friend, if you watch t90 on a regular basis i am pretty sure that even if you lack the apm and whatnot, you have enough raw knowledge to be better than these two.

I think someone who plays without knowing much about the game has some huge balls for doing so. remember how many people are scared of losing in a stressfull game and refuse to play 1v1 ranked (me included)

I don't have the replay, but I remember playing against low Elo players in Starcraft 2, because I was also low Elo and had no idea how to do things like build orders or hot keys or even understanding the concepts of macro or anything, doing classic stupid singleplayer stuff like getting upgrades for things I didn't have plans to use and just making simcity type bases, no wall offs, etc. I got attacked once, at like, the 45 minute mark, I had zero army out at the time, they wiped out my base, and then they... left the computer... while I still had a natural up. I was able to rebuild from there, make an army, and then well over half an hour later, I moved out, destroyed the enemies entire base, natural, and third base, as well as their entire army, and their APM was straight up 0 the entire time. Thank god I've improved since then, just a painful performance by both of us. Also reminds me of a Halo Match I played in unranked where I ended up against some people that were essentially 0 elo, It was one guy and 3 guest accounts on the same team, and they could move, shoot, or aim, but could not do two or more of those things at once. They would have to completely stop moving to look around, and then there'd be like a 2 second pause before they started shooting, presumably they were looking down at the controller and trying to remember what the shoot button was, and if you moved out of where they were aiming, they'd have to stop shooting, presumably look down again for another two second pause, and then start aiming. It was brutal. We won like 50-0.

MMR systems are designed such that if a player is not actively improving, then they will peak exactly at the ELO for which the expected outcome of their match given their opponents ELO, is a coin toss.

I don't understand how you can even get this low. I tried intentionally and at about 200 elo literally 90% of the games were against other people deranking intentionally so every game was a race to see who could resign first. Even if you "won" this short race you would only lose like 2 elo, but every time you failed and they resigned first you would gain at least 10.

Heated shot is putting cannon balls in fire until they're red hot. Then you fire those cannon balls at a ship. The movement through air makes them even hotter so when they hit the sails, rope and wood of the enemy ship they catch on fire. So it makes sense it doesn't add flaming arrows and that its purpose is ship damage

What an absolute super cute game! The fish traps really cracked me up. Red is the true role player, I'm sure. The best setting for this kind of game would be to start of as Neutral to each other. You could have your battles and the rebuild if you lost but never losing any vills. Fish traps and Market or sea trade could make a game go on forever. What a treat. 🥰🥰😎

Unironically, the philosophy behind these player's mindsets is amazing. Rank doesnt matter, it's just about the fundamental fun of playing Age of Empires II. It's honestly admirable to enjoy and play the game without constantly educating yourself on the "current meta", training hotkeys and build orders, or otherwise stress out about being competitive. Not that there's anything wrong with training to be better in the game, but there is a certain purity in seeing a player place fishtraps on fish, have their houses in a neat town arrangement, and placing towers and walls as if emulating a medieval landscape painting.

You also should mention that the time you research the University Upgrades plays an important role in AoE2 and it's clones. The University upgrades add percentage, researching them after the absolutes from the smithy are done, grants additional power ;)
