This is a good explanation, Ben. Reminds me, just the sounds of the patterns, of good ole Frank Gambale and that whole slew of Jazz players who utilize these lines. A very regal taste in soloing, no doubt. I got my work cut out for me on this type of technique.😉😎🎇

Since I grew up a metal head, I learned my I, IV, V from the intro of Drop Dead Legs (Van Halen) and the intro of Hold On (Triumph). I use this concept very, very often. A good example of this to me is Phish's song Limb by Limb. Trey plays some great stuff utilizing this technique a lot in the solo. I know about displacing (spreading out) the notes of triads (via Eric Johnson) by playing the 1, 5, 3 of these primary triads, but when I do this, it sounds predictable because I practice them as a exercise. Any way to break out of the predictability?
