Are your courses focused on developing a style similar to yours? I'm working on my improv and would love to implement a lot of your style in my playing, although I'm quite a ways away right now. I'm struggling with knowing what to practice to navigate the fretboard like you do.

There are three unique permutations of a scale that has 7 notes with two half steps. Half of the possibilities are degenerate, due to symmetries, or are covered by a mode of another if you want to think of it that way. First family is Diatonic, Second is melodic minor family, and the third is two consecutive half tones with whole tones everywhere else. 1 b2 b3 4 5 6 7. Its a whole tone scale with an extra note. Not sure if that one has a name, or if its worth knowing about. Things exist, what else can you say?

IMHO, the best recorded electric guitar sound I've heard is on the Bireli Lagrene "Foreign Affairs" album released in 1988, and that was on a Yamaha solid body guitar

Can I send you my guitar and you set it up for me LOL I have never heard a cleaner sounding Strat with no G or High E buzzing. You said Tech 21 oxford. Is that the amp sim or an overdrive pedal? Those Seymor Duncans Sound great with your amp
@beneunsonКүн бұрын
So glad you enjoyed the video! The Tech 21 Oxford is a pre-amp pedal, so basically it's an overdrive pedal. Love the Seymour Duncans as well!

Mmmm..... For Legato ish... this is very much a classic tone. Parts of this this, Ben reminds me of the outro soloing he does on 'One of a Kind' tune from Bruford. Where its solidbody, with pushed Marshall. Not brittle but warm tone but it's all subjective, ain't it, Ben?

Although neck-break tempo and steady rhythm are impeccable,l think the most impresssive aspects are the cristal clear,original lines with intersped tasty sounding chords and the magnificent vibrato on rest notes bravo!!!

So all in all, it doesn't matter on what note you start, you could say "oh this is just starting from a different degree of the root scale. Forget that modes exist. It doesn't matter where the notes are, it doesn't make a difference. Riiiiggght....
@beneunson3 күн бұрын
I didn't say that at all. It's simply a matter of isolating all of the notes in a given scale on each individual string - this is a practical approach that assists guitarists with breaking out of traditional position patterns. I broach this at 10:22 in reference to the C Major Scale beginning from the 3rd degree (E), and how it relates to the E Phrygian Mode - hardly an example of "forgetting that modes exist"🤔

That’s because as the late great Ted Green said, music is all the same. You see these jazz cats making fun of people playing simple 145 blues, but so did Bach. He made a symphony out of three chords.

So now we are breaking out of CAGED, Guthrie Trapp was one of the most prominent guys on KZbin to explain the uses of it then it seemed everyone jumped on the bandwagon. I’ve lost interest in loads of KZbinrs, all this “learn this trick that the pro’s use bollocks” however I can learn a lot from this. Cheers Ben 😎
