Get a moulton and not have to upgrade, or a Dahon and save money. Of course then people won't think you're an irritating bellend on a trust fund, but you can work on that instead of upgrading something that arguably shouldn't need it

Nice video! And nice green Brompton! I haven't seen those components before that you show in the video - could you please add links to the sources? The frame clamp is very neat and the leather strap looks classy and suits the frame ciolour very nicely. The rear suspension you show is also pretty unique. Many thanks and all the best, Rob in Switzerland

Good grief? Has no one ever heard of Velcro straps? You can get them from dollar shops or Daiso! I even have them on my handles, so that if I need to load stuff onto my rear rack or do some simple maintenance, I strap down the brakes so the bike won't move. Velcro is the world's greatest invention! Lol!

Why? After more than 15 years of riding a Brompton, none of the improvements Petrelli proposes are genuine issues for me, e.g. the issue of rolling the folded Brompton is most efficiently resolved not by unfolding the seat pillar but rather the handlebars. This video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/en_ZpoClqr6sY7s, has imho far better suggestions for Brompton modifications (though I would personally question the necessity to include the EZ Clamp Springs as a recommended accessory - I find Brompton folding & unfolding is all a question of good, sound technique).

@@Muddy283 Well after 1 day of my new Brompton I am cursing the poorly designed hinge-clamps and the fact easy-wheels are not fitted as standard. You simply got used to these design short-comings which should have been sorted by now on a bike in this price bracket.
@Muddy283
@Muddy283 Жыл бұрын
@@LaughingStock_ Easy wheels, true, but for the frame hinge clamp try tilting the frame slightly away from you (in the sense of leaning to the ground) as you are unfolding and the clamp will snap into place naturally. Also 4½ revolutions I find to be the correct amount to unscrew each hinge clamp when folding.

I use a RearViz mirror when riding. It's a wearable mirror that you place on your forearm and adjust to the position you want based on your riding position. This is useful to me because then I don't have to add additional peripherals to the bicycle to clunk it up. www.rviactive.com/collections/rearviz-mirrors

why not go one better and opt for a wired battery system 1 battery that handles both front and rear that you can detatch and charge elsewhere or charge it whilst connected to the bike so your not having to take the USB lights on and off the bike for bonus points you could opt for a system that charges the battery via dynamo so you always have power for your lights at night

Well, to be honest, it can be a hassle. I’ll have to be careful to Aline the belt when I unfold it. But the advantages are overthrown by the disadvantages! Smooth, soundless no maintenance (hardly). On travel far away, I’ll always have a spare with me. BUT careful to NOT have sideways forces! It can ruïne your belt.

The clamps are definitely an annoying issue, but I’m not gonna replace them, the bike was plenty expensive as is. Should’ve been improved on the standard model years ago, but I suppose people buy m anyways so no changes keeps the price lower, sales up and the profit higher. That’s my guess. Great folder for commutes tho.

EZ clamp springs are a nifty little upgrade. Little 3d printed things that you add to the stock clamps which stops the clamp from spinning and also pushes the clamp away from the frame as you loosen. I recommend! You can buy them or print them yourself

I added to my Brommie a telescopic expander for wheels near the seatpost. When Brommie is folded it is somewhat unstable. The folding system is build in a way that when folding it takes weight to the right side of the bike. So I extend the pair of wheels when Brommie is folded. I think this expander should come with Brompton factory delivery.
@Petrellionwheels
@Petrellionwheels 4 жыл бұрын
The extender is one of the great example of after market parts. Too bad they will never work on my Brompton. The extender added an extra bit of width to the eazy wheel's base, which causes me having a heel strike onto the eazy wheels all the time. I guess I will never get the benefits of that. Anyway, thanks for spending time with my video.

Sorry about the late reply. I am assuming you are either running on a e type Brompton with no fenders. If it is the case, you will need to "tilt up" the Brompton and push it from there. Larger wheels will help, but too large your Brompton will fall to the right hand side when it is folded, Try to look for some wheels which are 66mm or less in diameter.

Hi. Thanks for your good video. I would say two of your "essential" upgrades are not essential. You even say at the very beginning of your video that the "hinge clamp works fine." I would say that "essential" add-ons would be: 1. the front block, which is truly essential for any bag accessories you want to add, 2. a good lighting system, which is essential for safety, and 3. a carrying handle that attaches to your main frame bar called Off Yer Bike, which is essential for lifting and carrying your bike any distance. These 3, in my opinion, are truly "essential."

Hi Peter, great to see you putting out videos from down under. Frank "help-my-lockring-is-stuck" here. Bromptons are generally well made and thus upgrades aren't necessary "essential"; so says the bloke that spent more on upgrades than on my Bromptons themselves. Anyway, here are 3 items (in no particular order), I would advise a new Brompton owner to look into for upgrades: 1. Hinge Clamps - agree that after-market ones work better 2. Easy Wheels (especially for non-rack models) - the stock wheels are just awful for rolling, and larger wheels also provide better clearance when wheeled around 3. Toss up between Handle-grips, Saddle or Tires - each can significantly change the comfort/feel of the ride

Hello Petrelli, I want you to help me make a decision about the electric brompton bicycle, I have seen one in Barcelona and I live in another city where there are many slopes, to increase the speed mode you have to stop the bicycle and go from one to two and from two to three, which makes it difficult to handle the bicycle, is there another way that when you are riding the bicycle you can raise or lower the assistance modes without having to stop the bicycle? I currently have one that works very well for me and has control of the bicycle on the handlebars and allows me to raise and lower the assist modes without any problem at any time, it is foldable the only thing that the bicycle is a bit heavy I would like to buy the Brompton but I have these doubts, I hope you can help me if it is possible to find out if I can use the prompt in the same way that I use mine, greetings and thank you very much 😊

Bryan, those paint that are coming off from the hinge clamp area it’s something that we can’t change. There is nothing to worry about here. The Brompton is a steel bike afterall, rust is part of the deal. Those rust that you see at the hinge area and along the inner tubing inside the frame are called surface rust. As Long as it is steel and exposed to air, you will get abit of it. So nothing to worry about. As long as they stay at surface rust kind of level anyway.

I've been riding this bike for about a month kzbin.infoUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

The thing I would upgrade is the seat. I could sit on the thin seat for about 5 minutes before my whole groin area became numb from lack of blood flow - those things suck. There is something to be said for a wider seat that supports you on your butt, not on your nuts.

Greetings from Singapore, nice simple video. However its a little disappointed that Brompton does not have options to upgrade on such stuff from the sales.

Hello Petrelli. I’ve only recently known you mod Bromptons but you’ve already moved to Brisbane. Is there someone we can go to in SG to mod now? Any recommendations?

And here I am in the U.S. thinking that London folks have an easy time finding parts for their Bromptons. I guess online is the only good place to go.

Thanks for your suggestions! I got the Brompton tool kit shortly after my Brompton purchase. I ordered a handlebar mirror and hope it will fit. My bike stand is coming soon and I will order a rear triangle protector. I have a Velcro strap that I can use; although your leather one looks awesome. The boo boo kit is a good idea and I’m thinking of getting the easy wheel and extender. I don’t have a rear rack. I want an open basket to put my groceries in but that will after wait until I upgrade my wheels.

Another reason is that I'm not considering getting a Brom is that the prices keep rising . This is monopoly of business and it has to be stopped. I rather get another suitable brand than letting Brompton rising, U r crazy

Keith Lim; it is not a monopoly at all, you are misinformed. Brompton is a business and anyone can compete with them. I hear Limton Bicycles is up and coming :-)

To me handlebar is awful in the Brompton. Doesn’t match with the rest of the qualities. I used ErgonGP3 even though the looking of it is not beauty

The newer version is abit better than the older spongy foam version. I just feel the foam version abit dirty after some rides. I had been using the Ergons for a while then I am all in on the ODI now.
