We actually spell it Pulao in pakistan, and that’s also how we pronounce it. There is also a type of pulao in pakistan

I looked up the origin of plov and yeah basically pulao. Also one of Prophet Muhammad's fave foods was an Arabic dish which is basically the desert version of pulao.
