The in person energy is so silly goofy haha. I feel like Mak and Alayna feed off of in person energy (well so does Ashley but I think she is better at bringing that energy whenever she is 'on') and they both got sassier than normal and it was hilarious especially with Ashley's normal attitude. They met Ashley where she always is

Honestly, Ashley talking about how my generation is eliminating social interactions kinda made me realize that I could probably improve my social anxiety and social skills despite being autistic, if I simply... talked to people. Lol. EDIT: OH MY GOD, I didn't know about the elevator buttons either for the same reasons as Mak! Ashley yelling at Mak to call her when things go wrong and the quick "love you" before hanging up remind me of my own relationship with my chosen sibling, I love this so so much.

I’m not Persian but I’m middle eastern (Lebanese) and we don’t really wear engagement rings after we get the wedding band either. Mostly because the engagement ring is just fancier so there are fewer occasions to wear it. Also, many of us wear engagement rings that have been passed down in the family for generations as opposed to buying a new one. So, losing or damaging the ring carries a bit more weight.

oookay I have a feeling that Ashley and Alayna don't realize that being neurodivergent sometimes makes people not understand unofficial rules and seemingly logical or obvious things like the elevator buttons - like I totaly get that, to me, there are just two buttons and some arrows and it could mean a bunch of things, including what Mak said

Ashley your "don't you bring up apple maps with me" tone was very Frank Costanza from Seinfeld, specifically in the "you want a piece of me?" scene with Elaine, even more specifically the bloopers from that scene. It's so funny watching Julia Louis-Dreyfus trying to get through that.

To the listener question, do the long distance route for a bit. Don't try to shoehorn things into working out. I moved away 3 months into my relationship with my now spouse. We were long distance for nearly 2 years (thankfully, drivable, but I was in school, so I had limited time). We've been together 24 years now. Here's what I've learned from my own and other's relationships to know if it's worth continuing the relationship & moving in together (and both partners should consider this stuff!): -Do you want to share the mundane with them (think about doing the dishes, cooking, cleaning, waking up sick, etc. All those boring, frustrating and irritating tasks & events that everybody goes through, are those things better when they are with you?) -What do you REALLY know about them? What do they REALLY know about you? After 9 months, you're probably around the end of NRE (new relationship energy). It usually lasts between 6-12 months. If you're seeing things as you want them to be, instead of how they are, that's NRE. Don't move in if either party is still there. -Have you encountered at least one stressful moment that came from outside the relationship? Things like, an illness or death in the family, financial struggle, etc.? How did you both handle it? If you haven't had that happen yet, how confident are you in how the other will react to something of that nature? -Have you had an argument or fight that started from inside the relationship? How did you both handle it? Are your communication styles similar? If there hasn't been an argument, is it because you're still in NRE or is somebody holding back to not upset the other? -I always take signs of questioning a relationship as a point of concern. If the relationship has felt solid, but doesn't look it on paper, where's the disconnect between that? Is it for superficial/out of your control things like family background, religion you were raised in, financial status, etc.? Are the things on paper things that really matter or not? -Have you had at least one difficult conversation with your partner? This may be about a trauma, an emotional realization or struggle, anything that is a sensitive topic, really. Did you feel supported? If it was your partner bringing it up, how did you feel? These are some big things to look at. It's so critical to be able to step outside yourself and give things a critical look. This is a big choice (I've lived in 3 states, moving long distance isn't easy!), but if you can take an objective look at things and give it some time and space, you'll know what the right move is. And, it sounds like your family is there to catch you, if it doesn't work out. Having that can make taking a leap of faith easier. I only advise that you at least try to make it an informed leap of faith! Best of luck!

As someone who moved across the country “for” my boyfriend after only 9 months of dating I have a strong opinion on the listener question. You can make the move, but only if you independently visit the place you’re moving and decide you’d sincerely love living there, even if you were on your own. Also - DO NOT LIVE TOGETHER, at least at first. Make a goal of establishing your own independent lives there. Try to find friends of your own and a job that you’re excited about. If you can’t meet these criteria I’d rethink the move. This is how I approached my move and it went as well as it possibly could’ve - we’ve been here for almost 5 years, we’re married, and I’m pregnant with our first baby :)

Around the 29:00 mark, Ashley brings becomes a bit self-aware about oversharing. Then Mak reassuringly tells them that, 'it is important if you got the ick.' But then Ashley does double down and say they are going into so much detail about their life, and Alayna also mulls it over. At this point, Mak backtracks a bit and says, yeah... nothing wrong but I guess you[Ashley] are giving a lot of details. Then Ashley goes, 'but yes... because it's important.'

I moved across country for someone I never met in person & stayed there for nearly 10 years. That being said it wasn't a healthy relationship & I probably would have left sooner if I had been in a better spot. So I say yes try it out. But have some guidelines to how long you'll give yourself & things that aren't acceptable or that you won't put up with. I ended up going back home & have the best relationship & life now, so that is always an option. You aren't stuck & as long as you have guidelines for yourself to make sure you're happy, it can't hurt to try!

I didn't think I could smile any harder. Sending love and a giant hug to all fellow cousins in the comments, these in person episodes are the best!! They also tend to remind some of us how much we crave real human connection in this measly parasocial relationship- so just remember babes; there'll always be someone out there that loves you, even if you're in a position right now where you can't reach out and just ask for a hug because you want one or need one. My hope is that everyone here gets to a point in their life where they can, and receive that love with open arms. If you're also a listener to _"the other pod that shall not be named"_ that was essentially my gay thought for the day :] Stay ratified

As a former recruiter, I can say that it's really difficult to get hired for a job when you are across the country. Unless you use a local address, you have given recruiters (with some exceptions) an excuse to not consider you. They assume they will have to pay relocation or travel expenses for interview or that you aren't really serious about the move (and might try to make the position remote). You should be on the ground for your own sake -- understanding commute time & traffic for example). Considering it's now almost June, you are in competition with recent grads who have just dropped into the job market.
