I love my 3900X. It has served me extremely reliable for more than 3.5 years, when I first built the system. It's paired up with 64GB of RAM, and blazes through everything.

They only launched in November 2020 though so maybe your numbers are a little off or you mean the 3900x? I got a 3900x myself in July/August 2020 and can agree it's great with 64GB ram but I believe gaming performance could be a bit higher now I have a 3080 if I upgraded to a 5900x. no motherboard swap either is nice

@@Stallzyx Yeah, you have some gains to be made with a CPU upgrade considering you have that 3080. HOWEVER, I'd recommend going with the 5800x3D. That'll put you up there competing with plain Zen 4 CPUs, even beating them out in some cases in gaming lol. This is coming from someone with a 5900x. It's "hard" to do, but I've been debating on selling my 5900x and replacing it with a 5800x3D. If only they'd have made 5900x3D's instead of those damned 5600x3D's. 6 cores/12 threads aren't really enough in my book. 12c/24t has been absolutely overkill. I think 8c/16t is the "sweet spot", meaning no game is gonna max it out for awhile... and the 5800x3D will really let that 3080 scream.

When can run multiple games at once, never close any tabs, have unlimited programs open, mine crytpo, basicly if you can think it it will run it, have been very impressed with my 3900x and i doubt amd can convince me to throw my x470 board away to get a new zen (number) anytime soon. they would have to pull out a 100% faster chip or something.

The 3900x still shreds all productivity and multitasking tasks I have for it so I am happy. Once it is retired it will become a beast of a home server and VM machine.

My current system is based around a Ryzen 5 2600x and it's served me very well. The 5900x is looking especially attractive to me now, they can be bought used for around the £220 mark, and would drop straight into my existing motherboard with only a BIOS update and a switch over to an AIO cooler required. For that I get a two generational jump and a doubling of my core count. This is why AMD has always been such an attractive option for me... 🙌🏾

Be careful. What's your board? The 5900x fried a mosfet on my B450-F Gamin II (Asus STRIX) with the stock 142 watt PPT. Took about 3 months. I had a 3600 in it for one year before the upgrade and had zero issues. But 3 months of 5900x life... popped something under the VRM heatsink. You may want to consider a 5800x3D, instead. You really need a B550 board so that you have the VRM capacity to actually handle a 12 core CPU.

This is exactly what I was concerned about, so I ran these tests with 5900X at 200Watts on D15S Aircooling, and posted the results above. 5900x, comes at the same, or in some cases better than 7900x. Not sure how, but it does.
@JustAGuy85
@JustAGuy85 Жыл бұрын
@@AlmightyGTR Interesting. And then we can't forget about the 5800x3D. I have a 5900x right now, and at the time, I don't think there was a 5800x3D. That or it costed way too much, I honestly can't remember. So, I always figured that this 5900x would be the final CPU for this rig and I'd upgrade the GPU along the way until the CPU was just too slow IPC wise. But now? I'm gonna slap a 5800x3D in here and sell this 5900x. Thread-wise, it's been overkill. And, listen, I KNEW it would be overkill, I just underestimated exactly how much overkill it really is for gaming. I mean, I expected massive overkill... but it's even more than massive. It's gargantuan overkill for gaming lmao. Most games? 8-12% average CPU usage. The highest CPU usage game I have is BF2042 in a 128 player server and even then... 40-42% average CPU usage. So, while I do compress files now and then and encode a few vids here and there to save space, and it is nice to have those extra threads, I spend far more time just gaming. So the 5800x3D is what I need. I think the only thing (besides compression/encoding/tasks that can utilize ALL threads) that the 5900x can beat a 5800x3D at is using the CPU to record and stream gameplay. And even then, it'd have to be high CPU usage games like MW2/Warzone/BF5/BF2042. And still... I'm not even sure those games + recording + streaming would push a 5800x to 100%. I do know a 3600 cannot record using the CPU while playing Warzone. That pushes the 3600 to 100% and the game stutters and the recording is jittery as all get out. So that's why I'm not sure if 8c/16t is really enough, either. BUT... I don't do that anymore, I just game. And for pure gaming, the 5800x3D smokes all these CPU's in this benchmark. EDIT: My rig is - Asus STRIX B550-F Gaming WiFi II R9 5900x with CO per core peaking at 5.05ghz on the first 6x cores. No PBO, I get worse clocks in gaming with PBO. 2x16GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3600 C16 in the only dual rank kit of the bunch with finely tuned sub timings. XFX Qick 319 6700XT 12GB Got a lot of HDD's/SSD's, but I'll list em: 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVME M.2, a 120GB SSD, a 250GB SSD, a 500GB SSD (they all do 550MB/s read and 500MB/s write), then I have 2x Seagate 7200.14 (I think .14) in RAID 0 that does 380 MB/s read speeds. And lastly a 3TB WD Blue 5400-5700RPM drive for games I don't care about and back up files plus I record my home security cameras to it. It's slow... like 90MB/s read speeds slow. Oh, I also have a 64GB SanDisk USB UltraSlim USB 3 flash drive I throw games on now and then. It acts like an SSD at loading games. Something like 120-130MB/s read speeds and 30ish MB/s write speeds. But as we all know, seek times are MOSTLY what load times are about. Or have been about. Now with DirectStorage moving over to PC (like Forspoken uses), NVME M.2 drives will finally get some use in load times. That game loads from one spot to ANY place in the map in less than 1.5 seconds. Practically no load time involved. DirectStorage is AMAZING. I can't wait until more and more games begin to implement this. Not sure why they haven't, yet, as Xbox Series X|S have been using it forever. All we have is Forspoken using it. And, yes, I enjoyed Forspoken. Then, again, it came free with my GPU, along with Sniper Elite 5 and Saints Row, two games that I find boring as crap.

Sorry bud, but your numbers seem to be way off what 5900x can do without too much work. To compare apples to apples, first thing we need to do is feed both of them the same power. My 5900x at 200watts (to normalize the power consumption with 7900x), with decent C16 ram at 3800MHz is hitting over: -154FPS vs 93FPS (shown by you) average AC:Valhalla with 1080p Ultra high -155FPS vs 143FPS (shown by you) average BL3 1080p Ultra DX11 -176FPS vs 99FPS (shown by you) average CP2077 1080p Ultra -226FPS vs 195FPS (shown by you) average SOTR 1080p Highest -200FPS vs 165FPS (shown by you) average HZD 1080p Ultimate Quality All of this was with built-in benchmarks, 100% resolution scaling, no adaptive fps, no fps locks, no DLSS, no FSR, no nothing... And on Aircooling with D15S!!! I think we need to get better at power normalized testing before we tell everyone to throw 5900X chips into the bin. All my results are either in spitting distance of 7900x, or better than it. EDIT: Added HZD result.

The question everyone should be asking is need vs want. To be totally and completely honest you should buy what you can afford that accomplishes what you need to do. The CPU has little to do with FPS so for gamming you should put your money into the GPU that gives you the FPS your monitor can handle. Almost none of these influencers tell you that, because they are influencers! For productivity you want a 5900x. It runs all the software, Adobe and DaVinci well and performance gains of 1 minute mean absolutely nothing... Don't spend thousands of additional dollars for current gen machines, always buy the deals for last gen.
