I think I'm very very lucky to have the chance to see and hear this video. I'm really pleased. So far I have not seen any other lessons better than this lesson here (especially regarding to right hand grip-method ). Thank You lots. ( May God bless Mr. Peter Knight ! ) For your reference, following is my memo or summary in Korean words for my convenience, for my speedy review later. All the best. * 오른손 그립을 했을 때, 왼손의 엄지가 완전히 덮혀야 한다 (left arm is completely covered over). ................................................................................................................................................................. (4) the fourth bonus tip :

Watched a few videos on here about the golf grip and this is by far the best. Just been out and played 9 holes using this grip and ball striking has improved dramatically. I was hitting everything left with my irons, but with tweaking the grip hit them a lot straighter. Great video you have a new subscriber and a big thumbs up from me!

This is so important. The lower hand position is so crucial for me. I discovered that I had the club more in the palm in an attempt to gain ‘control’. It destroyed my swing speed and forced me to try to gain distance with my arms and caused casting. A lower hand grip which is much lighter by being in the fingers suddenly released all the tension and I learned what a pure strike sounded and felt like. Once you do that, youll never want to return.

You should also find benefits in your short game by applying the same right hand grip as you do for your full swing.

Thanks for this video. Especially when you said, when you make the adjustments, it will feel like you are going to hit it to the right and you until you get used to it. I have always had an interlocking grip. Never really had instruction on the grip. For years my left hand has been weak, left thumb mostly down the shaft. Right hand has always been a slight strong, a little to the right.

Great vid. I was nearly there in my pursuit of understanding a proper grip, but it was the part where the trail hand covers the lead hand thumb on the shaft that really hit home for me. Much more control of the club and little to no room for slipping or movement. I wasn't wrapping the trail hand around enough. Could still see my lead hand thumb on the shaft at address. This feels a lot nicer. Thanks a lot

Peter, excellent video. I have a question on the right forearm. I ask because I have a lateral tendonitus in the elbow (not the medial, golfer's elbow) and I thought it was the grip being too weak. However, I'm thinking it's the awkaward forearm pointing up while gripping. This need to throw the forearm through in the downswing. Any thoughts on how your forearm should be turned relative to a strong or weak right hand grip? Do you have video on this?
@PeterKnightGolf
@PeterKnightGolf 9 ай бұрын
I don’t have a video on it and of course I’m not a physio. It could be grip tension. Also if your right arm is moving correctly it shouldn’t create pain. I don’t think I have a video specifically on this, although I have created quite a few explaining how our right arm moves.

Question: After years of turning wrenches, I've developed arthritis in my thumbs. It's extremely painful to cover my left thumb in my grip, so I wrap my thumb around, much like a baseball style grip. Aside from that, the rest of my grip is identical to what you've shown. Me question is, is wrapping the thumb around the club an issue?

How do you feel about interlocking the pinky finger? That's what I've always done and it's so difficult not doing that I gave up .... I usually hit them pretty straight and with my irons and my chipping I do GREAT... But with the driver I have a pretty bad slice sometimes... Could that have anything to do with my grip or the pinky interlocking?
@PeterKnightGolf
@PeterKnightGolf 3 жыл бұрын
As long as the club is held correctly in the fingers of the right hand I have no issue with an interlocking grip. Your slice will be a combination of swing path and club face at impact. Your grip can influence this, however without seeing your grip or swing I can’t be sure.
@charliebates9098
@charliebates9098 3 жыл бұрын
@@PeterKnightGolf thank you so much for the reply... It's not all the time.. eighty five per. of the time I hit them straight .... But when I do slice I can not feel what it is I'm doing to make that happen? I keep feeling like maybe I'm opening my hips too soon trying to hit it too hard but after watching this i was wondering if my grip is slipping at the top of my swing because of the interlock? ... Next time I go to the range I'm going to get some baby powder spray and spray it on the club face for every single hit until I slice one and see where I hit the ball... I figured if it's showing I hit it too the right of the club then I'm opening too soon??... Again thank you for the reply I really liked your presentation and will subscribe
@PeterKnightGolf

@@charliebates9098 Using the baby powder is a great way to see the contact point. It won’t identify where the clubface was aiming at impact though.

@@PeterKnightGolf yeah I didn't think about that .... I need to get lessons.. I can’t hold the club totally in the fingers with the top hand like that. I have about a 105-110mph driver club head speed and holding it too much in the fingers causes the grip to slip in my fingers during the downswing before contact about 50% of the time. I have the grip further up from my pinky still below the pad but above the pinky I get a way more secure grip and I can really rip at the ball and don’t have to worry about the handle slipping.

overall great advice. Shortterm you will lose distance and confidence in all your shots, except putting. Longterm it will improve your game consistently with a proper grip position. Caution. If golf was easy and doing this was easy we would all shot under par. I've been playing golf all my life. I've known this information for decade's. In saying that it's easy to show. Hard to repeat .

There is no right or wrong way to grip a club. Pro's often shape their shots which means they twist the club face in relation to the plane of the ball.

Check out : Ben Hogan the Hawk and look at how high he grips the club in his left hand. So who to believe?

swingtrade2 Maybe Hogan’s was an adaptation to prevent the hook shot which plagued his early years.

@@PeterKnightGolf "Maybe?' You have a professional opinion about the grip and it is different then so many really good players/teachers. How come no one gets better? The average handicap in the USA has moved from 15.7 to 15.3. All the tech, perfect ball and of course great teachers, and no change. :Look at the senior tour. No 0 handicapper at 40 quit his job, worked his talented butt off and is out there now. Just the same old crew with all different bodies and grips. There should be a class action against the PGA for all the $$$ spent with no result. Just longer, harder courses because all the tech benefits only the best!

Deepak Mirchandani you’re so disgruntled by those 2 minutes that you took another 2 minutes to write a complaining comment. I’ll bet your grip sucks, like your game. Maybe you should listen to the sage advise instead of whining and displaying your pathetic lack of attention span!

Why would you try to reinforce the BAD grips instead of the good by showing them? The last thing anyone who is struggling with their game needs is to see how not to do it. If you really want to help stick to the right way. A good teacher should not have to be told this.

ah yes the Hogan Method, I'm currently debunking this shit... stop holding the club in your fingers, you DO NOT HIT A BALL WITH YOUR FINGERS. Oh dear here we go again... holding in your fingers means you hit it with your back... TW learned about that... 4 back ops laterrrrrr ...... you people will never learn.... I hit the ball DEAD STRAIGHT every time... I hit the ball further than you too...... and I'm 60.

Great explanations except the bonus 4th - knuckles on same hand touching each other ? I have tried to figure out what you mean by this - taken literally it is impossible. Must be a better way to communicate this 4th item?

@@port3f9 my only thought here is my reference to Tiger Woods 4 back operations. Other than that, I am not sure what else you are referring to. My grip is the Yip grip. A term I coined a few years ago. You won't find any other reference but me. I start with the Vardon grip, left thumb pointing straight down the shaft and over on the right side very slightly. Wrap your fingers so they touch the venus mound on your palm, hold it in the hand not the fingers, as with the standard grip you should be able to see the 2 knuckles on the left hand. Take your right hand put your little finger in between the first 2 fingers, grab the left thumb with the right hand. Wrap the right thumb around the shaft. Do all this in front of your eyes. GRAB the club HARD... if anything moves, reset and try again until you have a solid grip, with no movement. Then set the club behind ball, take your stance and GRAB THE EFFING THING checking for movement and alignment. If your body reacts, reset and try again until you get no movement from your hands or body... now you're in a posture that is square. I recommend a slightly wider than the shoulders stance. This sets the spine angle to hit up on the ball. This is important because THIS swing wants to get very Flat at the bottom. You vary the angle of attack by how far back you take the club. Shorter take away, steeper angle of attack. Straight arms, take away by rotating at the knees onto the back foot without moving anything else. When you are on, and inside your back foot Rotate at the hips. When you can't rotate on your hips, rotate the shoulders. When you can't rotate shoulders, cock wrists. Until you work out the Plane, I recommend staying Higher, Don get flat at the Top. Now we do something EVERYONE else tells you not to do.... CAST at the Top. Throw the club into your "V" . Throwing into you V is reversing the take away. So throw the club with the hands into your forearms, straighten your right elbow... By now the club wants to ROTATE YOU... go with it, turn using your feet to help the ROATATION... Timing, 1, 2 and 3... The End Point is a swing that uses no effort. Yet drives the ball a long way. This swing works just as well with irons, but use a shorter take away to vary that angle of attack... The swing is perfect for wedge play too ... I even use it for putting. Stand open for putting using just your shoulders. Strong eye behind and above the ball.
