If anyone is in doubt about this video it's proper helped me so much. I started doing shot 1 about 5 months ago and it really does work. Didn't take massive amount of practice, it just worked straight away for me. Its got to the point where I now have so much more confidence around the green now. This is such great tip for mid to high handicapper. I've been doing lot of work on my game with Pro at my club but not needed to do much with him on my short game. I can get up and down so much more since I 1st saw this video. My favourite thing I now do is tapping in with my iron after I've got really close. This video can really help your game!

Look up the rule of 12 video on KZbin. You can easily determine which iron to use for which bump&run. A few factors determine which iron, but shouldn't always be an 8

I used to own a lob wedge. Didn’t use it much. Once it got me out of a tight situation where I shot blind out of the trees and onto the green for a par. My friend was surprised and straight away asked what club I used to pull that off.

A putter usually has a 2 to 8 degree loft, use it. you can skip over dodgy grass and get rolling and never worry about 'fat' or 'thin' shots. Most of my off the green shots are closer than a wedge. Just a thought. Have fun, friends.

I'm going to go out and practice and see how things go. I will probably purchase a lob wedge on your advice. Thanks! I love your easy manner and the fact that you are not arrogant at all (the way many golf pros are in their videos, ugh!). I needed that yesterday. That’s what the odyssey tank chipper is for, it’s essentially an 8 iron at 37 degrees with a putter length shaft and weighted grip to give a natural arc like putting. For some reason I kept going to my 53 degree wedge and stuffing it up. This has helped make my approach and club decision easier, thanks.
@robpottergolf6 жыл бұрын
I gotta admit, since getting the stronger lofted clubs I struggled with the bump and runs. As you say, I've had to drop to an 8i for the standard type. It's just a psychological thing at first, getting it into your head that the 8i is a 7i etc. If anything it confused me more with wedge gapping.
@EMD_Ski6 жыл бұрын
Helps me too...i think the kiss of death in chipping is fear of hitting it too far. Once you start to get tentative those fats and thins kick in. Helps me to use that higher lofted club where i feel like I have to give it some grunt to get it to the hole. Makes for a much more confident stroke. 👍
@garybrumley35196 жыл бұрын
I agree, Rob. I hate that club lofts have gotten so strong. I have actually ordered clubs with 1-2 degrees weaker lofts just to keep the game more consistent for me. I saw a PW listed at 43 degrees recently. Seriously? That would make your gap wedge about the loft of a PW from years past. It does seem that 'players clubs' have lofts that are more traditional.

Phil Michelson chipping advice is the best. 3 steps, 1 ball placement either in front of left foot (lofted) or right foot (de lofted) never between feet. 2 All weight on left foot (always). 3 Quick hitch in back swing, Fast hands through the ball, and club should be straight with left arm through finish.
@Blackyboi396 жыл бұрын
thats exactly what I do and I have been converting 3/4 birdies on short holes this year at my club championship from within 40 yards using his advice getting them to nearly tap in range. Even lob shots are not that hard when you follow his guide
@Geep17786 жыл бұрын
Michelson is a great player but i can't use his method because I struggle to maintain my balance w all my weight on front foot. I have bad flat feet and need both to touch ground... I hit most chips/pitches ball center or slightly back like this video demonstrates. Just because a pro does something doesn't mean there's only that way to be a good player.. definitely shot 3 as I always seem to catch the ball with the bottom edge of the club and send it flying! Also the lie of the ball is important as if its sitting up nicely you can easily get the club head under it...have often skied it as a result of that too.

Great video which demonstrate you do need the proper equipment which includes a 56 and 60 degree wedge in your bag. I carry a 52 degree wedge also for shots that can be hit without a trap interfering. One other short game shot that is beneficial is the use of a hybrid when near the green but in long grass. A putting stroke with this club can pop the ball out and get it running very well.

I added a 64 degree wedge last year. I've used that club almost as often as any in my bag, putter excepted of course. Highly recommended that everyone try one. It did leave me with a distance gap between my 3 wood and my 4 hybrid (I dropped my 3 hybrid for the 64). But I just choke down on my 3 wood for that once a round shot when I need that exact yardage.
